This episode is so, so dumb.

Infiltrating the military base, Nora continues to pull of gags that would realistically get them spotted immediately.

They use Penny's Dad's access id to get through security doors and don't think that might tip people off that someone's in the building. Lucky for them, Penny's dad hasn't been booted from the system.

They sneak through the control center by spilling coffee on someone. What is RWBY's obsession with drink-based diversions?

Cut to Ironwood working with Watts. Yup, no scene of him actually deciding he needs Watts's help or even their confrontation, we jsut straight up cut to Watts looking over Penny's schematics while Atlas Guards point guns at him.

Watts points out "Notice how a fugitive's id is being used to open doors?" because apparently Ironwood hasn't updated his security at all.

The base gets put into alert and the group slip into the room they need to go with no obstacles, because this is the easiest stealth mission ever.

Penny explains Ruby's semblance is breaking herself down at the atomic level to go through shit and that she could do it with whole groups of people this entire time. So... How the fuck did Mercury kick her in Rose form back in volume 3?

Peitro puppeteers Penny to do whatever they're there to do.

Penny wants to help with the evacuation, but everyone else thinks it's best for her to stay on Amity. Yes, better to keep her ungarded on Amity rather than under the watch of the rest of the main characters.

Blake is scared because she's never seen Ruby and Yang lightly disagree before. Jesus christ, these friends suck. Once again, this is how you can tell the conflict between the group will never amount to anything, because they immediately split up so that the people involved in said conflict never have to face one another until they're ready to resolve it.

Nora rants about not knowing what's up with Ren and then complains about having no character outside of hitting things and jokes. I mean... We're supposed to disagree, but she's fucking right. She doesn't have any character outside of that.

The Aceops come to crash the party, remarkably calm and talkative considering they've just come back from mourning their dead comrade and all the shit RWBY has screwed up. Ruby and co, on the other hand, are immediately ready to attack on sight. They blame RWBY for things getting worse and that all they're doing is helping Salem by dividing them further, but Penny tells them to stop bullying Ruby. Ruby tries to dissuade them, but still refuses to use any actual argument and just insist they're wrong.

Harriet closed the door, trapping Ruby and Co inside the control room while Penny is out there with the Aceops. Of course, Weiss is quick to point out how cowardly and pathetic the Aceops are for wanting to fight the Super Competent and powerful Robot who just got Demi God powers as a group instead of solo. Strategy is the bane of this series.

Surprisingly enough, when the AceOps aren't up against the main characters, they suddenly become more competent and put up quite a good fight against Penny.

Nora super duper charges herself on dem electric juices to bust down the door, but it tuckers her out.

Watts tells the AceOps to take one of Penny's blades and retreat, and so they do. The Episode ends with Watts saying he'll use the blade to hack Penny. And no one thinks letting Watts take control of the most powerful good guy character her will in anyway backfire.

You'd think that after their robots being hacked when Beacon's downfall occurred it would encourage them to be more careful, and take precautions towards security involving anything of theirs to prevent further security breaches.

Is Atlas filled with so many retards, that they didn't decide to remove / deactivate the IDs of former scientists or individuals who no longer work for you? That's just asking for trouble like hell, and considering Team RWBY use Pietro's ID only drives how further Atlas is ran by exceptional individuals.

The show really doesn't really think big. Monty only probably to his next fight and Miles and Kerry had to come up with the story and character development to make a coherent narrative. And since Monty died, the show doesn't really do the idea of showing what happens around the kingdoms because everyone is clumped together. And when they did separate people in V4, it was mostly people just sitting around feeling sorry for themselves and only served to kill the momentum from V3.

This is complete and utter fucking nonsense now. It was dumb and the logic was already fucked ten ways from Sunday before, but at least I could understand the barest idea of what they were going for with characters and the plot even if they completely failed the execution. Now its just completely and totally batshit insanity. Nothing in the plot makes sense, all the characters have horrid bipolar disorder, characters are literally just getting new powers or their powers are changing drastically from what they were beforehand because the plot needs it to happen.

We are 8 seasons in and they are finally fully explaining Rwby's power (which was admittedly never really explained). They even fuck this up though because it is yet another retcon of what her power does, FOR THE SECOND TIME IN THIS ENTIRE GOD AWFUL SHOW!!!

They might have needed it for that Death Battle with Maka.

Anyone else sick of the tonal whiplash going on? One moment it's doom and gloom, people being forced into ghetto's to survive, Ironwood has reached the breaking point and is making a final ditch effort, Grimm prowl the streets, Salem hovers above, the time is ticking down and the pressure has even caused fractures in team RWBY and then cut to wacky hijinks with Nora, Ruby, and the gang!

I get you need moments of levity but not 10 minutes of retarded shenanigans in order to infiltrate a high-security military base

Also, am I retarded, or did they never set up that Nora has a cap on how much power she can absorb? Nora has taken in lightning strikes before but all of a sudden the audience is meant to be concerned that Nora is electrocuting herself as the members of RWBY shout out "Nora Noooo!!!!" I just thought to myself "okay Nora is going to do her power-up mode" which did happen until those burn-mark crack things appeared on her out of nowhere with no explanation (I get that it probably means that this time she absorbed too much and she is getting blowback, but It would have been nice if they set that in the previous 6 seasons before randomly making it an issue.)

Alright. Just looked up Cleo and found that Hero Hei was exposing it as a hoax, not responsible for it, like the sped on Discord claims.
No, he fell for the hoax hook line and sinker. He did a whole video on the fake suicide where he outright said he was in contact with Cleo's family and showed emails. Keep in mind Cleo never existed, meaning that at best Hei fell for the hoax and someone pranked him with the emails, or he was outright a part of the hoax to give it a media push through Nyannet and he forged the sister emails.

It was only after the house of cards came tumbling down that Hei rushed out a second video where he spent more time whining about people mocking him for monetizing a video about a suicide he believed to be legitimate at the time of publishing., than he did talking about Cleo being a hoax.

The toneshifts are borderline retarded.

I was happy that Watts actually picked it up, cause it would've been too much of a Deus Ex Machina if he didn't.

RWBY is even more of an OP Mary Sue than before. Like seriously, now that Ruby knows she can transport multiple people & that her atoms disassemble, that allows her to escape otherwise impossible or extremely difficult situations, meaning there's less tension in those situations. For example, now that she can use her Silver Eyes with no repercussions, the Grimm aren't that threatening. Though I do believe Salem at least temporarily blocked that ability last Volume & sending Ruby to fight humans while the others fight Grimm somewhat alleviates this problem (I'm looking at you talking Grimm fight scene!). While I have no way of knowing how Remnant's infrastructure works, Nora discovered her Semblance by sticking a fork in an electrical socket. She also absorbed lightning in V3, though that was most likely dust-induced & early information about abilities/Semblances isn't the most reliable anymore. Though this does make me wonder if her Semblance works on magic lightning. The first thing I would like to address is a very specific question & answer about Salem. Ozpin asked "How do I defeat Salem?" to which Jinn responded, "You can't." It was a very specific question with a very specific question, they all just interpreted it as "Salem is unstoppable, we can't do anything". Assuming they don't believe Salem can be stopped, it makes their actions even more foolish. They would rather send the Relic into the atmosphere and potentially doom Mantle & Atlas than send Atlas into the sky & save some people. However, I do believe they think they can stop Salem (somehow, cause Deus Ex Machinas aren't really unusual for this show) because how else do they save Mantle & Atlas & continue their journey? Second, I didn't mean to suggest that they fight Salem, just that if they oppose Ironwood's plan of "lose the battle, win the war", they themselves need a plan to combat Salem. They don't have one & Ironwood didn't either (even then he feels less incompetent compared to RWBY), so what are they gonna do?

The AssOps are supposed to be manipulating Penny. Except the main cast already have been doing it.

That 4v1 talk actually fucking annoyed me, it reminded me of the annoying time when Yang called Adam's power cheap, when the bitch literally uses a tantrum based Super Saiyan rip-off.

The "only Nora can do" foreshadowing they did with the door just kinda felt like a self-jab at first, but the show isn't self-aware enough (or at all) to do so, so they unironically & unintentionally admit that Nora has no character without Ren. Also, Nora took way too long to use her semblance on the door & that's after

Honestly, the problems with tone shifts and never really having rules or limits for powers have been problems for A LONG TIME. Some may even say they’ve been problems from day one.

Agreed but the tone shifts seem really pronounced in this season for some reason.

Probably because with the stakes being “the end of the world” and the heroes being wanted fugitives, there most likely isn’t any time to be silly.
I'm starting to get even more annoyed with Jaune. Combined with that hairstyle and Miles making him sound more of a whiny, condescending faggot (especially last volume), I'm often left wondering how the hell fanfiction manages to make him more likeable.

Because he was designed to be the Everyman. The audience surrogate who learns about all the ways that this world is different from our own. He’s basically a blank slate for whatever a writer wants to do with him. By design.

Jacques being a bitch like usual

OH! Get fucked, Watts!

Still don't like Qrow's new voice. Almost seems like they made him depressed and angry to make up for the fact that his new VA cannot emote like Vic

The tagline on the wall was kinda cool but having the thug girl repeat the "Show your teeth" line right out loud right after showing it to me on the wall is a bit lame

Yang cannot not have a motorcycle, I guess

Doing a flip for literally no reason is in character for Yang but it feels really out of place with the overall tone of the situation, which leads me back to my post earlier about how this show is way too fucking serious for its characters. Yang and the others would be much better off if they were just goofing off in high school occasionally fighting monsters

Wow, RoosterTeeth cannot draw kids for SHIT. Seriously, come back to this scene and look at these kids. Their heads are the same size as the adults' but they have tiny little stub arms. That is so freaky.

Grimm show up after about 4 minutes. I thought this was supposed to be a massive invasion? Why do we have time to grab motorcycles and show off again?

Jaune has a new shield grenade, which is a weird concept that works out perfectly when you see it in action. Seems fine. I do like that ultimately RT decided to keep Jaune underpowered and have him try his best to keep up with everyone else despite his limitations, but it ends up with him stealing Ruby's role as team leader way too often.

Yang being a cunt to an old woman because she's being racist against faunus. Definitely going to draw the Grimm. I guess it's a reasonable slip up on Yang's part, seeing as she's shacked up with a cat, but it is a very serious mistake for an experienced warrior. Again, I don't mind RT portraying these girls as totally unequipped to fight an actual war, but I don't know how I'm supposed to be on their side instead of Ironwoods when they clearly have no idea what they're doing.

"It should not be this hard to get people to cooperate" - This is a very interesting line to come from Oscar, as Ozma has had the same problem his entire life. I wonder if this hints that the people Ozma reincarnates into have a natural sort of synergy with his quest or personality, or if it's a sign that Oscar is losing himself to Ozma?

Oh, like I'm supposed to feel bad for Jaune when Ren is acting exactly like Ren always has? Jaune should know better than to try and treat Ren like Ruby or Nora by now. Haven't these two been close teammates and friends for like three years now?

Ozma - "We need to find a way to work together. Not just the two of us. All of us." Yeah, well, great job so far buddy. How many lives have you had to try and accomplish that? And now Salem has finally gotten within a hair's breath of destroying humanity because you suck at being a leader. Ozma is the least sympathetic character ever. You're supposed to grow and change and adapt through trial and error. Ozma thinks that keeping things secret will somehow result in being able to unite the world? The world has no idea of the threat it faces BECAUSE of him, and hasn't for centuries.

Okay wow. The first time we see Penny, there's sad music playing and she's looking down at the people trying to gather their things together to escape a horde of terrifying monsters. This is the awkward autistic robot girl who ran up to people and yelled "SALUTATIONS!" Remember when she whispered "Is she a man?" to Ruby? Why should I be happy that they brought Penny back to life in this show if the tone of the show is completely inappropriate for her character now? She's a completely different person and seeing her face just reminds me of what this show has lost. No matter whether Team RWBY actually wins or loses, they will never be able to bring that levity back. They had to create an entirely separate stupid spinoff to try and maintain the atmosphere of the first 2.5 seasons because they fucked up their show this much.

And now Nora is depressed because she's separated from Ren and Jaune. Is this supposed to be character growth? For every single one of your comic relief characters to experience hardship and pain until they all just wander around with empty eyes waiting for the next fight? Rooster Teeth, you do understand the purpose of comic relief, don't you? Those characters are supposed to remain constant to help the show's tone not crush you with despair. They keep the more serious characters from killing themselves. If Penny, Nora, and Yang all hate everyone, how are Ruby, Weiss and Ren supposed to cope with anything?

And then right after that, Weiss and Blake have a cute light-hearted moment about Weiss being a spoiled rich girl. I guess it works but of all people, I wouldn't expect Blake to be the one cracking jokes in Atlas.

"The general said people were going to die because of me." "That was a lie, and he only said it to hurt you." Ruby, you can deny the truth all you want. If Penny is destroyed, again, her dad is going to give what's left of his soul to save her. That is undeniable, inevitable proof that Penny's choice to remain in Mantle is going to hurt people. Because she IS going to be destroyed again, by choosing to remain in the presence of a Grimm army rather than rushing up to the sky. She isn't like you, Ruby. She doesn't have plot armor. And this is the real disconnect between a hero style character and a grimdark war setting. Ruby should not have any sort of hope here. She is in a situation where she has chosen to sacrifice herself and her team to help civilians. There is no reason for her to think that she or her team would make it out alive, but she's still giving friendship speeches like she genuinely believes everything is going to work out. I know that's her character but her character doesn't WORK for this type of plot. It's so jarring hearing her talk when she's marching her friends into death willingly.

Nora back to being all smiles and comic relief. Sure, that works, but her giving a happy and excited sigh doesn't really match up with her dejected "yeah" from just two minutes ago.

"Just knowing the Grimm are circling out there, what are they waiting for?" - Yes, RT, what ARE they waiting for? Salem has the Relic from RWBY, there's literally nothing left in Mantle to spare. She should be absolutely trashing this place. Just because you slipped in a throwaway line about it, it doesn't somehow make this all part of Salem's master plan. Whatever inane reason you've concocted will not make as much sense as Salem killing everyone. That's her ultimate goal. She has no reason not to work towards that when she is in the best position possible to do it.

"Can't take them will all these civvies" Okay, but when Yang and Jaune killed that Grimm, there was literally no one around. There's no one in the streets at all, during an evacuation? Really?

OH! Get fucked, Oscar!

Wow, Oscar has no Aura at all. That Grimm broke his Aura in like three hits.

Yang absolutely deserved that, also interesting to see a Grimm use a human shield.

A shapeshifting, talking Grimm. That's really cool, and honestly the main thing that has been missing from Salem's group. I hope this creature becomes a recurring villain and one of Salem's lieutenants. Can't wait for Rooster Teeth to blow a great idea like this by killing it off before the end of the episode.

"Kids"? I thought all these guys were 18 at the start of the show? Ruby was an exception, not the rule. And it's been years since then, right? They're all in their twenties, at least.

Oh, the show is over. Good. This new Grimm can show off its stuff next week.
