S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (Stalker) Thread

People forget that Steam has a mandate against NFTs in their storefront. So its more of "oh shit we have to focus on getting this to steam for more money" rather than actually listening from the backlash. GSG have been incompetent and greedy ever since the release of Cossacks 3.
You mean GSC have been incompetent ever since the development and release of SoC, where the game went through development hell, GSC overpromised on the game and cut out a lot of content in the last second before release.

I bagged this fucker practically by accident while heavily undergunned in the Anomaly mod last night.

Incidentally I had to reload far more to survive an attack by a mutant bobcat cub.

The cats are one of the more vicious mutants, and responsible for many a death in the zone. What'd you blast it with, and do you have any other mods installed? There's a lot of good ones for Anomaly. The JSRS Sound Overhaul and Food, Drug, and Drink Animations mods are two I can't play without.

I ended up hip shooting the bastard with an SKS eventually. My secondary was that one silenced 9x18 pistol which was ineffective. I sold my shotgun for some reason while I was drunk. Drunk me also ended up on the wrong end of the minefield before saving and going to bed for some reason.

I love that this game can play the Crocodile Dundee "you call that a knife?" gag completely seriously and actually pull it off, especially since you're not exactly wielding a butter knife when it does it. It's a subtle detail but it helps make it sink in that you're dealing with unnaturally powerful forces and creatures.

I'm pretty sure they walked back the NFT scamming when everyone blew a gasket
It will be still in the game, I doubt the new GSC would backtrack that easily. When was the last time they released a game of any huge caliber?

Goddamn, Anomaly companions are such a double-edged sword. They're useful if you're going artifact hunting as watchers and pack mules, but they suck in combat -- especially in close-quarters. If you're going into Agroprom Underground or any of the labs or even the north Cordon checkpoint, you might as well kill yourself 'cause they will push you into gunfire at some point.

If they added an option to disable companion collision, companions would be way better. But alas, there's not even an addon, so fuck Hip. Cunt can get her artifacts by herself.

Have GSC said anything about modding in STALKER 2?

It's Unreal Engine. I'm sure there would be some modding even if they disallowed it. But even then, GSC would be shooting themselves in the foot if they didn't support modding for HoC. Mods are the main reason why people keep playing the original trilogy to this day. No mod support would be suicide.

Frankly I suspect, being unreal and the history of first three, plus how the market for these kinda games are and knowing the fans, mods are going to be thumbs up day one (hell watch some DLC is just a rebranded stolen mod )

Personally, I'm fine with it being "par" and some dank mods dropping fast... like SOC was... just less jank and buggy.

The two you get in the Anomaly modpack for the Loner starter missions died so often I almost wore out my quickload key

Can't tell what the fuck this is. A Chimera?

Might post my Anomaly instance, but for now have a song:

Not to double post, here's a screenshot and a lil story.

On the third day in the Zone, I wanted to go to the North but this time I felt like actually walking there instead of using a guide. I started off at Army Warehouses, pushed through Red Forest, and ended up in Yanov right when a psy storm began. During the push-through in Red Forest I killed a whole bunch of Monolith and Sin fucks, and ended up hoarding a lot of bullshit. The plan now is to get back to Cordon through fast travel (because I'm cheap like that), load all this shit off, patch up the gear, and try and get to Skadovsk.

After I offloaded all the loot I took one gun from it, the MP-153, and patched it up to use as the main shotgun. Later I did some artefact hunting and bought an SVD, since my usual loadout consists of an assault rifle, a semi-automatic shotgun, and an SVD. Because I really like the SVD. And it does a good job at taking down distant targets. Which came in handy when arriving at the scientist bunker in Jupiter, it got fucking swarmed with zombified stalkers. As for the assault rifle, right now I have an AN-94 I took off of a dead Military guy, the two round burst is really useful. For the shotgun endgame I hope to get a Saiga-12 for those quick reloads.

Haven't caught up on the mod scene in years, but recently got Anomaly running and have been enjoying it with a few add-ons, namely "Food, Drug, and Drinks Animations" and JSRS. The survival stuff is pretty hardcore, but I do enjoy the constant struggle to maintain equipment and budget ammo. I'll say that it doesn't feel like true and authentic STALKER, though. More like single-player Tarkov-lite.

The STALKER 2 delay isn't anything new. Remember: The original was in development since 2000 and didn't make it to store shelves until 2007. The pre-release xrCore build that GSC officially released after STALKER was out for a bit proved that the game was nearly complete in 2004, but needed 3 additional years to refine. I'd like to think the same thing was happening to this sequel, but it could also just be another case of "This game is fucked, we need more time."

GSC love them or hate them absolutely knows that if they got rid of modding they'd just shoot themselves in the foot. The original stalker games are janky and dated as all hell, the community keeps them playable.
