S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (Stalker) Thread

Personally, I play Anomaly. Takes the maps from all the games and alphas, stitching them into a cohesive worldspace in CoP's engine. Adds a ton of new mechanics, designed for people familiar with the games. I'd describe it as MISERY lite. Doesn't really fuck too much with the general difficulty.
It's also worth pointing out that Anomaly isn't just a mashup of maps and assets. It's also a modern update of the X-Ray engine to 64-bit (I forget how they got the source code to the CoP version, but it's the real deal) with tons of bug fixes and other improvements.

I'm genuinely impressed with how much they've improved it.

There's some modded .exe's you can find that add increased engine functionality such as better shaders and differential file loading. More and more mods outright require them since being able to have the engine load single changed lines instead of dumping in the entire changed file for just a single altered line is a fucking godsend for compatibility.

Gopniks cracked the leaked devbuild of STALKER 2 and apparently have it running

I fell in love with the main stalker games ever since I played SoC a few years back. I loved the thick atmosphere of the world and the setting. As for the combat, it was serviceable, even with the bullet sponge enemies and shitty ai. Bugs weren't that common of an occurrence during my initial playthroughs either, at least not game breaking ones. I tried to get into the new modpacks like anomaly and gamma but I can not stand them.

I get the appeal of the mil-sim in the world of stalker, but does it really have to be so difficult? Everything in Anomaly takes 20 million fucking years to do. Traversing the map is boring, though it was also boring in the first game Anomaly has all three games' maps all packed into one. You get rubles by doing missions for different factions which is cool if they weren't so specific. It always either kill this dude thats half-way across the map, collect # of this very specific item which I doubt new players know where to find and how to get etc.

I like the gunplay and the graphics in the modpacks. Both are a massive improvement from the first game. Fighting enemies is now a lot more engaging that SoC since in SoC it was pretty much peek out of a corner and shoot. There's a lot more movement to the gunplay but you can also be more tactical and peek behind walls. The game looks amazing for fan-made mod, let alone a triple a game. It updates the lighting and textures tremendously without taking away from the zone's atmosphere.

Anomaly and Gamma just take to long to do things for me. They are very slow paced and take a while before you get anything remotely good. I can't wrap my head around all the upgrade systems and what certain tools do and where should I take them etc. I guess it's just not for me. I would like a Stalker game with the looks of Anomaly but with the faster gameplay from the trilogy.

The dev build is literally from last month. An this shit cannot run higher than 15-10 FPS with load times up to 20 minutes.
Huh, almost as if it's a dev build that's not meant to be played by the end user so it hasn't been optimized, plus it probably has a whole bunch of debug code running in the background, hindering performance.

I'd say save your performance shittalk until they finally manage to release the 1.0 retail version, it's still possible that it'll be improved by then after they've finalized all the major parts of the game and can focus on optimizing it.

I haven't been able to play stalker in a long while due to shit hardware but one thing I loved in some of the previous large mods was the controllers herding around hordes of zombies. It was just so challenging dealing with all that at once. Is that still a part of any mods cause I remember it only being in some.

unsure if it has that feature but OP 2.2 is a schizo modpack for masochists with absurd amounts of mutants
I wouldn't recommend it

Resurrecting the thread to let you know GSC has delayed the release yet again. This time they're aiming for "Q1 2024".

I sense that GSC will do a full circle and will finally release STALKER 2 with a 4 year delay from the original release date, and the game will be riddled with bugs and cut content, much like the very first game from the series, which was supposed to originally release in 2003 but due to the development hell it released in 2007, riddled with bugs and cut content.

Nobody posted here but the studio just went on fire 2 weeks ago:
The fire broke out on September 7 and is said to have destroyed one of the three floors of the studio located in Prague. GSC Game World had previously moved from Ukraine to Prague in 2022 following the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. Thankfully, no employees were hurt in the incident but it has caused significant structural damage that will reportedly cost 1.5 million crowns (Czech Koruna), approximately $66,000. The other two floors used by the developers were unaffected by the fire, but there are concerns that the fire may have gotten to their servers.
