It's actually my favorite superhero game. On its own merits, it was a good game. I don't see why the SR fandom has a problem with it.
Too different from the games prior. I liked 4 a lot too, but I can understand why fans of the original two had an issue with it.

Notto disu shitto agen.
It was "way too whacky" for SR fandom right after the "this is whacky and not a GTA clone" saints row 3.

I do too, especially with how casual 3 went with its zany approach. I personally blame reviewers for lumping Saints Row as a "GTA clone" when it was more than meets the eye.

4 I believe put Volition in a corner if canon is anything to go by.

At least Saints Row 3 had heart, unlike this reboot.

The 4 main games of the franchise are good.
  • SR1 is a excellent GTA SA clone with their own features. The ending is a surprising twist.
  • SR2 was when the franchise took a more own route while following the GTA formula.
  • SR3 is when the franchise took a totally whacky different route. Many don't like but i'm in the one who liked the tonal changes. Endings are great thought.
  • SR4 feels rushed as fuck but is still good. Sadly the ending about traveling in time is the last one.
  • Gat Outta Hell is bland and short. At least characters which returning from earlier games as cameos was a nice touch.
I don't got interested in Agents of Mayhem. Now with this shit...

Oh, I forgot about that ending. 4 recycled 3's world one to one. I recall 4 was meant to be DLC for 3.

2 was tonally inconsistent. Even Volition recognized that. Still a good game.

Did the cars explode in 3 and 4’s “Insurance Fraud” mini games? Because seeing them explode as soon as you touch them in the reboot kinda just ruins the fun of it for me. Like you can’t be getting hit that badly if the car literally falls apart like toilet paper the second your body makes contact with it.

I honestly wish there was a way to play Saints Row 1 on PC since I don't own an Xbox 360 to play it, and X360 emulation is still in it's early stages. The only existing X360 emulator can't properly run Saints Row 1 so that you could play it from beginning to end.

No, they didn't. I think with 4, if you had a certain powerup, they'd explode.

4 completely broke Insurance Fraud to make it a cakewalk.

4 I can understand since superpowers, and since it was a final power-up, I’m okay with it. But good to know, thanks.

Those damn dirty incels! Why can't those losers lovingly consoom our games?!

That's why it ended up being good, tonally inconsistent but it still trudged on, that did cost the sons of samedi to not expand properly unlike the brotherhood but we got Sunshine.

Insurance scam was never a good activity, just like guardian angel, hitman and fuzz were fun just like mayhem always is fun on all installments.

You can say that they nerfed insurance scam, on both 3 and 4 you can get hit by a truck and rack tons of cash while it moves, destroying the cars make them stationary.

This game is going to kill the franchise.
One can only hope...
Except Cyberpunk 2077 was a vastly larger game in every sense, so while it is a prodigious fuckup, it has that excuse. SR reboot is tiny in scope, limited in what is on the screen at any given time, and is somehow glitched at a similar or even higher rate according to the review I am seeing.
How the hell do you fuck up worse than CP2077?

its like the mop problem. how much can you change about saints row before it stops being saints row?

4 was a good superhero game, i liked it more than 3 and felt both had some likeable characters even if 2 was the peak of story and gameplay. a problem is that saints row 3&4 i always say ruined pop culture comedic writing, along with deadpool, borderlands, portal 2 and tf2 (none of these things are bad). like joss whedon helped but i'd say most modern writing does those sorts of quirky random, self or constantly referential trying to be ironic about itself writing. If i were to write something that combines all of those it'd be something like: "I just boxed a bear in hell and then he took out his lazer sword from star wars and i did a chuck norris punch and he exploded and his guts went on a bunch of orphans. Then I woke up and my job sucked. Oh well such is my day"
