And nothing of value was lost.

Actually a lot value was lost. Descent/FreeSpace, Red faction, Saints Row before they tried to make it woke.

I believe what you mean is that value was already lost long before the corpse was finally put out of its misery today.

All the people that made good shit were booted out long ago and replaced bunch of fags with agendas. Many such cases.

Holy shit. Provide source, nigger.
Here is an article on it.

An excerpt:
Gearbox is a subsidiary of Embracer, which said at the start of the summer it would cut jobs after spending so much money to acquire various studios and properties. The layoffs (and by extension, the projects cancelled at affected studios) have been made in response to a reported $2 billion deal with Savvy Games that collapsed back in May.

At the start of August, Embracer shut down Danish studio Campfire Cabal, and earlier today announced the closure of Volition.

In 2015, Gearbox began to publish games from third-party studios, with its debut title being the 2016 remaster of People Can Fly's Bulletstorm. Recent releases include Gunfire Games' Remnant II from July and Heart Machine's Hyper Light Breaker for 2024.

Game Developer reached out to Gearbox Publishing and Embracer to inquire about the full total of layoffs. This story will be updated when a comment is provided.

Embracer seems to be losing money in general lately. Saints Row reboot wasn't good for Volition and New Tales from the Borderlands reception and sales were rough for Gearbox. Let this be a story of if you anger your core audience enough to drive them away, only do so if you're guaranteed to find people to replace them. If that isn't the case, be prepared for financial disaster.

That other studio they shut down has a website just as unintentionally hilarious as Volition:

And now I am never getting a Summoner 3.
if It makes you feel better, this had no effect on any possibility of Summoner 3 since Nordic Games walked away with that license as well as Red Faction after Volition got sent to Deep Silver.
You're still not getting Summoner 3 though, sad to say.

Embracer expected to have a 2 billion dollar deal go through and spent a ton of money before they had it.
They never got the deal and now they're fucked. You know what they say about counting chickens.

The way they worded it, especially next to the office announcement, is just the cherry on top. I swear you see this type or language a lot in corporate writing, just a shitty attempt to sound human and ape some quirky hipster. "Hey folx, we're all getting shitcanned, here is how we and our wives' boyfriends are coping with it". Am I the only one that finds the language just as greasy and off putting as that shitty alegria corporate art?

You're right, I totally forgot a lot of THQ IPs went to Nordic but yeh, chances of a sequel are nil, there are probably 3 people in the world that give a shit about the franchise and I'm one of them.

This is probably for the best though, in the current climate it probably would have been a steaming pile of shit full of pink haired trannies.
Don't forget bear-back sex.

They could sell a lot of those properties off or hand them to different studios. Might not be all bad. Like Squeenix selling their IPs to chase cryptocurrency.

Wow, who could have seen this coming? Certainly not the tens of thousands of people trying to fucking tell them in no uncertain terms after the reboot trailer "this is not what we wanted", right? And then they did the retarded, gay, snarky Twitter clapback shit that soured the few people that may have been remotely interested. Turns out that people from r/GamingCirclejerk who will defend a shit product until the bitter end don't actually buy or play fucking video games, they just want to 'own the chuds' and have no interest in actually playing the game. So essentially they made a game for, as far as I can tell, fucking nobody. It didn't appeal to the fans of SR1 and 2 who wanted a more grounded experience, it didn't appeal to the fans of SR3 and IV who wanted over-the-top action and frat boy humor, and even if it did briefly appeal to either group they were told in no uncertain terms "fuck off if you don't like it" which they did. It also didn't appeal to "modern audiences" because A) they don't actually play games, they just spend hours defending shit products on twitter and B) Fortnite already fucking exists.

Not only did they make a game that didn't appeal to anyone, it was also a boring fucking glitchy mess in a technical sense. Generic gameplay, really the only praise I've seen for the reboot comes in the form of people appreciating the map/world design and art direction, which I'll grant them wasn't awful or anything. I'm genuinely surprised that they lasted this long considering they released bomb after bomb since 2011.

the popular opinion on /v/ is that studios are finally folding because blackrock is pulling out of vidya. I think it's more likely because the economy is just garbage in general. but it is nice seeing the safety net for these losers is gone.
the next disaster to look forward to is hyenas. the hacks at creative assembly should start sending out their resumes now.

Peck of Info:
A brother of mine works in the IT sector and met a fella who used to work for Volition's QA team. He said that he enjoyed the job while working there for 3 years or so. However he noticed that bugs that were doccumented and reported by him during game development, ended up in the final product. Take with this what you will, but I'd guess serious senior management/lazy devs (I can definitely see this with the Saints Row reboot and their last crappy Agents of shit game).
I wish they stuck to FreeSpace...
