You know I would love that.

But that's also freaky as hell to think about, I remember 1986 seemed so distant in 2002 when playing Vice City.
It's interesting that the 80s and 90s were established as unique eras with their own aesthetic that was satirized when it still barely feels like the 2000s have one and are rarely satirized or referenced. It probably has to do with original content being replaced with nostalgia and reboots.

It makes twitter fags uncomfortable. They don't like to remember how much they used to say nigga along with rap songs, called women bitches and ho's, generally glorified the "get rich or die trying" idea that 50 Cent and other rappers emboldened.

Or maybe I just lived in an area full of kids that did this only to turn into complete faggots in college when Obummer got elected.

I'm so happy I'm seeing so much hate for this game.

That shot with the roses and the katana is unforgettable.

I wanna add, notice how the tone remains the same throughout the cutscene from beginning to end, no forced slapstick, no Whedonesque quip at the end to "lighten up the mood"

I recall that scene with Carlos too, no dialogue or music at all, and it worked so well, too

Starting to think SR 2 might be getting a little slept on when it comes to it's directing
Saint's Row in general has had really good directing, even 3 and 4. Something heavy about the motion capture they use, but in a good way. Like the movements in and out of cutscenes had weight to them.

The consistent tone is the most important part and I'm annoyed I didn't mention it. It feels like writers aren't allowed to take things seriously anymore. Like they have to bookend everything serious with a punchline to dull the impact.

The reboot gave me content to add to the Worst Redesigns thread. Never before have I seen such a worst redesign of a franchise.

Hmm... No, never mind.

There's literally a mechanic shop in Saints Row called Rim Jobs.

Real smooth, Lance. Whoops, wrong game.

I do have in mind a game that was so badly made in every way possible it ended up being retconned and what it retconned was remade canon after it' plot made it unable to exist within every single other games in it's franchise and it tried to retcon part of the story told so far

Character design in 3 and 4 is good. I think SR The Third is the best of the series though with it's purple and black color palette, voice acting, and general ridiculousness that's what you'd find in a parody of GTA. However I think the best mocap has to go to LA Noire.

Yeah, while 2 was still good, I felt like it got a little too serious and gritty towards the end.
How?
It goes from gangbanging to full-on warfare against one of the most powerful companies in Stilwater, complete with high-tech secret bases.
And the Boss never loses his cool or takes in the full ramifications of going against an entity with fuck-you tier money and bodies.

...and I fucking love it.

Is hating on Saints Row IV a "popular opinion?" What made Saints Row a well-liked series?
- Yes. The Superhero shit should've stayed as a DLC standalone and the lore and plot got roflfucked with no tying of loose ends to be found.
- Like you said; the humor, the gameplay, and the fact that the first two games had a soul despite being blatant GTA rip-offs. Volition were clearly passionate when they made the first two akin to the devs who made the Sin franchise. Immature, irreverent, gross, violent, loud; a love letter to the culture the devs consumed.

New Saints Row reboot
You niggers had ONE job... and it wasn't to gentrify street culture and gangbanging! Unfuckingreal. These are shit-skin yuppies pretending to be gangstas. Please have the secret ending be that this is all just the Saints Row movie Pierce wanted produced or something because this is garbage.

How bloody hard is it to make a gangbanger-themed open world game that is 25% cultural references, 60% hood/ghetto/barrio subculture that takes it self semi-seriously, and 15% over-the-top?

This looks like Fortnite single player DLC that's been focus group tested to hell and back.
Zoomers do not care about Saints Row. This looks like Radical Heights-tier pandering to a crowd that does not care about you or your dying franchise.

All you had to do was take the energy and soul of the original and update it's visuals and controls, not change it's entire aesthetic and appeal.

Unless this is the devs making a self-aware reference that SR1 was a mashup of contemporary gaming culture and tropes of the mid 00s and the reboot is doing the same thing for the late 10's, in which case I applaud their consistency but will go nowhere near this filth.

RIP Boss, Dex, Johnny, Troy, Julius, Pierce, Shaundi, & Carlos. I wish your stories could've been given a proper end.

I said it once, I'll say it again. Saints Row IV was a great game with the superhero direction, great writing, lore connection, amazing soundtrack and ultimate freedom in an open world. One of the best open world games I've played yet.

Was the world recycled? Yes. Were the puzzles annoying? Definitely. Did it deviate greatly from its original source material? Yes. Were fighting aliens compared to gangs not as interesting? Sure.

But SRIV is a testament to meta writing and having the flexibility and freedom to go crazy for one last hurrah. Anybody who's a fan of superheroes, open worlds or comedies should get it a try.

All those traits you've mentioned about Saints Row are in full effect in IV, aside from the urban gangs.
