There was a lot of humor but the first two Saints Rows were still trying to be legit "gangsta" games, they weren't full on spoofs like The Third and IV.They said that the reboot would be more "serious in tone" and "less whacky", completely forgetting that SR1 and SR2 does the same shit, rewatching the videos from both i saw that it has some real "dark" moments on them, especially 2 since the boss becomes more psychotic.
eww, you saw Abby handholding, yous a degenerate!
I think it's understandable and forgivable that by 2011 no one could really take that sort of thing seriously anymore, but this shit a decade later is just embarrassing, at least when the series veered into spoof it was still funny and entertaining, not lame.
The old guard of mass media is panicking because the internet has changed the game and shifted the balance of power, so entertainment has shifted into propaganda and brain washing as a way to try to counteract the fact that they no longer control the narrative anymore as much as they used to.Does the fact that entertainment media, as a whole, is trying to go away from people actually enjoying them, and instead trying to force feed morality lessons, by killing off or shoving old, beloved characters aside, to push for new and unlikeable ones? It's as if the entire media world is trying to kill itself off on purpose.
I can just as easily access websites that advocate for the systematic genocide of people who aren't white and Jews as easily as I can access the Huffington post or CNN, that scares the shit out of the powers that be, so now they use entertainment as just an extension of what they used to primarily use journalism for.
However trying to fight far right extremism by pushing far left extremism and infecting everyone's entertainment with that is counterintuitive and only making things worse, but they don't know what else to do, they're panicking and throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks.
