Saints Row thread

A part of me really wants the original two games to get the SR3 remaster treatment, but I do wonder how much would be changed to lighten the mood.

I'm one of those people who prefer the SR3 tone, but man I'd forgotten how dark the originals got before you spray shit everywhere for a mime clown.
I'd settle for 4 getting that remaster treatment just to have consistency with the two titles.

The first two would probably be more suited for being remade given their age and oddities with their engine, but I doubt Volition will be around long enough to do such a thing (they barely survived AOM, and they seem keen on pissing off the one group of people that can keep them afloat), nor do I have faith they'll keep them as they were given how much the reboot has censored brands.

In other news, for any of you who use Spotify, SR2's "Ridin in That Black Joint' by Wale is available, but for some reason it's available under some literal-who named Chipinkos.
Not complaining though; song slaps.

It's 2008. You start up Saints Row 2 after a long day of work, ready to play a few hours with your buddies. "Ridin in That Black Joint" plays on the main menu. You talk shit to each other. You have true freedom of speech on 2000's Xbox Live and you'll be called a faggot and banned from the group if you whine about someone "offending" you. Mayos, chocolates, rice, and tacos alike (we had true diversity back then in gaming, not this weird manufactured "inclusion" diversity where everyone is segregated and hates each other) call each other racial slurs, insult each other nonstop, and then congratulate each other on a good game at the end because, like I said, this was in 2008 and people weren't faggots back then and it was very hard to actually offend someone. Gangsta brawl, Team gangsta brawl, Strongarm, etc... The multiplayer is a complete experience, has years of replay value and you don't have to pay for any extra costumes or bullshit.

I never knew that gaming and society would peak then and things would go far downhill in the next decade. This new Saints Row, the gaming industry, and the way most people act in general now are like living in some sort of evil parallel universe.

Difficulty options for the game.

I got to say, I cannot complain, but what the Hell is "Danger"? How hard you get hit, the amount of enemies? Being able to tweak each setting is nice, though how exactly difficulty effects each category is yet to be seen.
Still doesn't mean I'm going to play it, but if I were...

SRIV was already released on the PS4 and Xbox One. And a poor port on the Switch, I heard.

I actually really like how the difficulty is scaled on so many factors. That and customization level have both honestly impressed me so far

I've got my concerns about this game, but I'm thinking the political/woke shit has been inflated/exaggerated, as beyond the obvious pander trailer character I'm really not seeing anything. This is arguably a less woke title than SR3/4 from what we can tell so far. This doesn't look to be anything like a Mafia 3/WD2/Cyberpunk in terms of wokeshit.
My biggest concern isn’t that the games Woke - though I have eyes, I’ll call a spade a spade there - my concern is that the game just looks generic as fuck.

God I miss the days where you could call a faggot a faggot over voice chat and not get banned from whatever you’re playing.

How did people become such pussies? I still blame the Big Bang Theory for making Nerd Shit mainstream…

See, this is where I sort of disagree.

The gameplay looks FUN. It looks frantic, like a mix of Just Cause 4, SR2 and SR3. Yet it looks good enough to be immersive.

I wouldn't say it's generic, I'd say it's a bit level headed. There's nothing this game seems to do that's new, instead it looks to be pulling inspiration from a mixture of being old/new saints row, with a more in depth twist of GTA blended in, and some gameplay mechanics from other titles blended in. While not doing anything special, it does appear to have alot of content and an extremely solid single player setup with alot of detail. I'm interested in learning more about the business system which is apparently GTAO-esque.

Rate me optimistic, but im currently leaning towards this being a solid single player title, politics aside. I've watched alot of the leaked gameplays without commentary, as well as some of the 2021 comparisons vs now, and it does seem like some work is being put in here.

This is really the stand out. It looks unbelievably bland, from the art style to the choice of setting, everything appears watered down and 'safe'. The somewhat cartoonish visuals with a grim setting and characters in SR1/2 offered pleasant juxtaposition to the content.

SR3/4 leaned way harder into the cartoonish side of the franchise, which I personally didn't care much for, but it looked good visually and did have an identity. But this has nothing going for it. It looks like a bland Netflix series you'd turn off after the first episode.

So, by taking elements from other mainstream games and mixing them together, and as you yourself said, not doing anything special, you somehow got something new instead of Generic Open World Game #8675309?

Yeah I'm not sure how that tracks, but hey - you want the game, it's your money. I'll wait and see, worst case scenario it can't be the worst thing I'd've ever bought for $5.
Besides, I have Soul Hackers 2 coming out on the 26th(ish). I know what my choice is between the two

assuming it doesnt have denuvo or some other shitty drm at launch, i'll probably pirate it and see how it is. im at least hoping i can still have some fun in the open world by fucking around in it. 3's world was fun to fuck about in with all the shit you could do

Possibly given how Freckle Bitch's also got censored, and they probably think they made a funny by swapping the first letters around.

It's like the "Saints" having blue as their color before swapping over to purple, just an unnecessary change for the sake of it.
It's telling Volition couldn't even get the gag going correctly. These idiots should've been wearing green before they swapped to purple, since the original game had the Saints in green for a lot of development, only changing when GTA: San Andreas came out. Hell, they even made a nod to it in the older games; Julius and Ben argued on the Vice King's flags for a bit before King's pick of yellow won out.
BLACK GUY ALWAYS DIES FIRST.

My money is now honestly on the cat, and some revenge mission dedicated to it
That actually is probably the most likely death besides Burger King Mad Max Man, because god forbid one of your Lts. bite it.
