Saints Row thread

I'm really getting the vibe that he's the betrayal character.

We know here that he espouses some reddit shit on capitalism, but we also know that later on you save him from the commie gang. I'm assuming that he betrays you later, since they are shown to be the "main" gang in most gameplay

That said, that whole scene is a giant joke about millenial culture. All of the non working idiots buying dumb things and then shitting on the one guy that works
It's so much easier than that: He's the white guy.

Therefor, betrayal.

There’s a 5th Saint that joins on later named Nahualli or some shit like that. He’s the dude you arrest in the first mission of the game. I have a feeling he is the traitor. I doubt nu-Volition wants to make their “heccin relataberino” self inserts bad guys.

I’m pretty sure Kevin is Asian.

I argue Shaundi got the worst personality change after 2, at least the boss change is related to the opening of the game saying the Saints sold out (not too sure if he would do that tho), tho in exchange we got Oleg so uh...
Uh, didn't the Boss not really give a damn about you so long as you admitted they were in charge? Bend the knee and nobody needs to get thrown into a woodchipper feet first and all that? I don't really blame The Boss for selling out due to sheer boredom thanks to everyone in Stilwater knowing better than to fuck with them. That said, SR3 really should have A. kept Gat around and B. had Gat slap some sense into the Boss, perhaps literally, about the need to start killing people and breaking their shit for thinking they could fuck with the Boss and the Saints.

Journos have honestly been very, very, lukewarm about this game. It has no personality at all, every IGN preview has had the conclusion that it's okay at best.
Seriously, I've seen so little buzz for the game anywhere, even Reddit generally either hates the characters and/or thinks this looks boring & dated (and the ones that do show a slight interest are waiting for it to go on a deep sale). I think Volition shot themselves in the foot with remastering 3, as that provides people with roughly the same gameplay experience but without the shitty characters.

Early Access, 39 minutes. You got the spare time for this?
No joke, but I legit thought I was looking at a lost mission DLC for Watch Dogs 2. Everything in that Early Access vid that I just saw now looks like something that was supposed to be made for that game.

I can understand why this new Saints Row game compares itself to that sequel.

Nice to know the game also controls like shit given that enemies soak bullets and can't be dropped with headshots, thus dragging on the fight. That genuinely was my play style through 2 and 3 and because of that I favored pistols akimbo over other weapons. Nice to know that it's not even going to be a good game mechanically.
Also looks like your melee attack is just a generic kick and you can't incapacitate enemies with a testicle smack or grab and use them as human shields anymore.

Gay dying and it having no impact on The Boss was the most bizarre fucking decision, the actor even said he had nothing else going on so what the fuck were they thinking? I don't even mind Gat dying but it should be what sets TB off, not be a weird footnote at the start of the game with a death you don't even get to see.

That's the vibe I've been getting from the game too. Even back during the initial reveal, it feels like a Watch Dogs sequel, but at least Watch Dogs had l33t H4X0R identity. It was cringe, but it was something, and remote hacking was an interesting gameplay mechanic.

What does this have? A bad character creator and an insta-win execution button? Gameplay with less options for combat than a game that came out back on the fucking 360 and PS3? How exciting.

Yeah, 3 was a mixed bag (some really wtf decisions in what they made but had some decent moments and gameplay was fun)

3 obviously did not show the death because they wanted to keep a door open to bring Gat back if they wanted later on (which 4 did)

I think NuHailli or whatever will be a "villain turned hero" character

It's a joke alright but definitely not an intentional one. I can't fathom why you still think this is some kind of giant pastiche about Millenial culture when it's clear as day that the game is written as genuinely as it can get.
It's both. Parts of it are trying to be relatable, parts of it are definitely taking the piss.

It's a bit two faced. Unsurprising since the devs are largely gen Xers

Starting to see some early copy plays, people are saying the trailer are sticking to the first hour or two of the game, which lines up with what we have seen from leaked gameplay.

I've been talking to quite a few people about this game, and the general consensus seems to be good gameplay/solid open world an options, terrible story and characters/writing, which again seems to line up with what we've seen.

Apparently the lack of peds/traffic is something present in early game for unknown reasons (bug? Attention shifting?) And goes away later, which again lines up with footage of pretty heavy city traffic in some of the other videos. Also Apparently the first few hours are VERY linear, like an older GTA game, which is very surprising in today's market, especially with the Forza-esque difficulties Settings.

Still on the fence

I just like to point out that none of the other early Saints Row games ever had a “pansexual” character. If they were trying to parody the idea of making up your imagined sex or gender, then they blew it. I half-expected them to go full on Cobra Kai if that were the case:

Then again, though, that would actually require using more than half of your brain.

I'm still leaning towards betrayal being the scene where you're fired by Marshall.

I think what's going to happen is that once the saints get "big" Marshall will ally with the other 2 gangs (Mexicans and commies) to try to take you down. One of your friends will betray you (my money is on shirtless) to join Marshall, and the criminal from the intro will return as your ally.
