well, I would hope you don't spend most of your time unironically enjoying just that work, at least as for as the 3D goes, I implore you to visit art station and just look up aliens or creatures and see what GOOD alien design looks like.
As far as writing goes, I know less about that, but it still seems to me like word vomit and a world structure built on toothpicks. A reminder that the big bad killed a dragon bigger than a mountain with a fireball or something. Yet to read anything DBZ powers or some shit here, but hey maybe that might make it interesting, or maybe he wrote himself in a hole and scrapped that too.
To be blunt, I dislike every design he did except those of the main characters (the only designs I like are: Lucy [mediocre], Celia, Winifred, Locket, Yeshua, Felicity [mediocre], Hyzenthlay, Fleischer [mediocre], Shuck [mediocre]... The mediocre ones are just passable.) I'm more of an animal person (call me furry or not, I just like animals), not interested in aliens, and his animal characters is what got me first in. I remember that Oom Pah Pah was recommended to me, I watched it and then peeked into Satellite City.
His "alien" designs look bad to me, they absolutely do - I very dislike his Ludwig design or Fontaine or Waxle or whatever other "aliens" he has. Until I found out he calls them aliens I just thought of these as creatures and would still call it. I have not seen much with alien in it but... I wouldn't call it alien at all. To call his book Sci-Fi is nooo.... I'd call it Fantasy but Sci-Fi feels so out of place and not fitting.
Aside from the designs I listed above, all the other animal/alien characters look even worse than the "aliens". Whatever artwork he posted of the side characters
does not. look. good. at all. All I see are animals on two legs with nipples. Sometimes more than they should have. I already thought Celias nipples were too much, like, why nipples on the stomach too?? It makes
my stomach feel uncomfortable. Both inside and outside.
The story, well, I loved the animatics, but I think someone reading something is different than reading it yourself. I might read the same passages that were in the animatic in the book and say "I didn't notice how chaotic it is". I noticed already some moments in the animatics where I had trouble or didn't feel nice to listen to/read.
For example the first part in the preview animatic where Shuck is around the flowers, when I first listened to it I had trouble understanding what's going on, and had to listen 3-4 times to truly grasp what is mostly happening.
Where Winifred and Sombra had a conversation, I could mostly follow, but there were some weird sentences that I didn't truly get, but maybe will get when I read the full book.
The Celia one was very good in the beginning, but later on got a bit... kind of all over the place. Especially the investigation, it felt so... hmm. Long somehow?
Kind of funny, his potential for 3D animation is destroyed by his underdoing of it by relying on effects and modfiers and not on own craft, and his potential for great writing is shattered by his overdoing of it.
