These episodes range from micro-awakenings which he won't remember to full on eyes open wide, heart pounding, etc. panic mode. He's unable to get any form of meaningful rest thus he's dozing off all the time only to wake up in a minute or two because he starts suffocating as soon as he enters deep sleep becuase breathing changes there.

However comical it's an unpleasant and potentially dangerous condition. Increases the risk of several mental and cardiological conditions and it often leads to deadly traffic accidents. The stereotypical fat trucker who fell asleep at the wheel is practically the face of sleep apnea.
