Having worst girl as your avatar and shit taste go hand in hand.

I was completly done with the Rebuilds after the "Kaworu on the moon" scene, that was the second film IIRC. The third was bullshit to a degree that i can hardly remember anything from it, the time skip is mind blowingly terrible. The last one is so forgetable and unecessary that i couldn't even get mad at Anno for that ending, it was a bigger middle finger to the fan base than EoE (which i always liked, much like the omedeto ending of the original run). I heard a ton of bitching about the addition of Mari before i got around to watching the Rebuilds but honestly, the films have a ton more issues than some pointless new character.
The almost ten year wait between 3.0 and 3.0+1.01 plus the hideous CGI in the last film is just the cherry on top of the shit cake.
Fundamentally, the biggest problem is that a lot of the writing is just… bizarrely incompetent and amateurish. Like there’s some potentially good ideas there but the execution is just bad, it feels like a first draft turned directly into a final product without really working out the kinks to make sure that everything actually gels into a coherent narrarive. It’s night and day compared to NGE, which feels a lot more “intentionally” written with every scene serving some kind of narrative purpose. In the Rebuilds you get to the end and it’s still unclear why two of the “main” characters are even part of the story, because they do fuck-all.

My relationship with Scott Pilgrim is like with the Band Andrew Jackson Jihad. Used to love it as an early 20 looser, can’t even stand to look at it as an early 30 looser. Times change man, times change...

At 30, one isn't anymore a lovable underdog, at 30 one is fully teetering into good-for-nothing deadbeat if insisting in certain behaviours.

I liked Mari for precisely that reason. She's upbeat, optimistic, playful, dutiful, just a collection of all the things that Evangelion fans will never be IRL.

I don't remember them being terrible in the original novel (which I read a decade ago). More like he was an underachieving loser, and she was afraid of commitment. Nowadays both look like downright saints compared to the people infesting online space.

I never read, hated the actor that was playing the character in the movie.....

But honest question, was this a case of previously undescribed traits being brought to the fore or traits that contradict prior traits?

I hate that a lot of the shit I grew idolizing as an early teen ended up turning into shit when I turned old enough to "get it".
I can only turn to the immortal words of Tony Soprano I only know of because some YouTuber used them for a video... "the best is over".
Between anemoia and nothing, I take anemoia.

you can fuck someone without being in a relationship with them. whores especially aren't dating people. Plus the source material came out in the 2000s, pre-tinder. you'd have to be quite the cunt to have 7 different relationships by then.
That's one of the most hilarious things about Ramona in hindsight. Back in 2010, the idea of a young woman having seven ex-boyfriends (and currently dating an eighth) before she hit her mid-20s was considered so out there and such a comically large amount that it was pressing the suspension of disbelief. Now, most people would be like "Those are rookie numbers kid!"

Even then, they're not all presented as serious relationships. Exes 1 and 2 were a couple of weeks long kiddie affairs in middle school and high school respectively and 3 was effectively her high school sweetheart. It could really be argued her bodycount was really more like 5 which is still kind of slutty but its not that insane and it only counts if you bring up the dyke.

So, by the looks of it, I conclude:

- Bryan Lee O'Malley, just like Chris-chan, never cared about doing a comic or the comic medium. He wanted to make an anime, but FUCKING CRAYOLA pencils and ink were cheaper than hiring writers and a whole japanese studio.
- This is but a stealth remake in the medium he really likes (For all you weeb haters, anime is the discord-dwelling, troon adjacent brigade's territory. Manga reading is the patrician, cultured and civilized option) but he didn't have the balls to do an outright remake and possibly upset his target audience
- The whole purpose of the remake, apart from keeping Bryan Lee O'Malley relevant, is to elevate Ramona to ridiculous extentes, to double down on diversity (Funny that Scott Pilgrim went from originally being praised for its diversity to being considered almost white supremacist propaganda in about a decade) and to throw as much shit at Scott as possible.
- Its target audience (people who welcomed this product, ostensibly old Scott Pilgrim fans) is unsurprisingly full of brainless consoomers

Holy FUCK is this show boring. Episodes 5-7 are almost entirely condensed to some meta bullshit movie shoot and it's just an endless parade of characters fucking around doing nothing. I know the comic had a lot of slow moments as well but come on.

Edgar Wright really elevated this dogshit IP by having the radical idea to inject some actual energy into the story.

All I know about SP is that I've heard its bad style "ruined a generation of women". How detrimental to the female species has this new NetFux product been? And will E;R have to make a superior video about it?

Ripping off Haruhi I see, nice ""westerners"". Wonder if they'll try endless 8 next.

Maybe I've grown older, surlier, more cynical and hateful, but I don't think the dialogue is out of place, I think the goofy, quippy, smart-ass dialogue doesn't depart a tiny bit from the original comics and subsequent movie. And I hate it. I really, really, really fucking hate it.

I loved it back in the 00s and I fucking hate it now in a very primal way.

What is happening to me, doctor?

meta bullshit movie shoot

With a jab at Edgar Wright, as 'Edgar Wrong' no less.

Wonder if they'll try endless 8 next

Please, Please, God, allow this to happen.

There's also the fact there's like only 2 or 3 members of the "league of evil exes" that take it seriously, with one of them being the middle school edgelord guy and the other being the extremely wealthy psycho that made the organization. Said organization having the petty ass goal of "fight and kill whoever the next partner of this random amazon delivery worker in the toronto area is". It's clearly meant to be an out there comedy thing. Weirdly Mathew Patel and Gideon both share kinda similar elements in appearance to liquid Chris which while sheer coincidence I can't help but kinda notice that. That and the evil organization name "League of Seven Evil Exes" being a similarly word salad ass one as "Private Villa of Corrupted Citizens"
it's just an endless parade of characters fucking around doing nothing.
Yes that's what happens when the Main character goes missing and there's only a very small amount of people actually looking for him while the "new main character" spends a lot of time offscreen building his media empire.

It would have been a way better movie too had he just used the basic concept as a springboard to tell a story he thought was fun. It's his weakest movie because it's just a dogshit Reddit approved script.

Sigh of Haruhi was at least watchable (even if boring in relation to the rest of the anime) compared to this shit. Scott Pilgrim is no Kyon.

The rebuild project in general feels like an absurd disaster purely on how each movie feels like it was done by completely different people that only got a napkin with notes about the prior film. Which is amazing considering it was all from the same director.

Clown world works in mysterious ways. Reminds me on how Friends and Seinfeld are oh so offensive to current year faggots when the first one was milketoast as fuck and the second though a bit meaner, nothing to drop your pearls about.
