I always thought Scott Pilgrim would have worked a lot better as an animated series on Adult Swim or whatever instead of a live action movie. They tried as hard as they did but there are just certain things about the books that just don't work in live action, not to mention that they had to condense six fucking books into a two hour movie so naturally a lot of stuff had to be cut out. Hell most of the evil exes were barely given any character development because of this.

I have no faith whatsoever that a current day adaption of Scott Pilgrim can be good. It was already le quirky tumblr-user style media back then but it was lighthearted and apolitical so it was still good. I guarantee this won't be.

(The videogame was fun too)

They're supposed to be evil? And here I thought the girl Scott was simping for was the evil petty cuntish villain.
they "evil" as in being petty assholes who cant take no for an answer. i think the only real evil one was Gideon Graves, who treated Ramona as an experiment and started the hole "seven evil EXs" to begin with out of spite.

but yes, turns out Ramona was awful to some of them and they held a grudge against her for a long time.

I don't like how shiny the artstyle is. The thin outlines and moving camera makes it look like a modern anime. They should have stook closer to the book's artstyle, like the short they made in 2010. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BitByGeWGxU
I'm not being optimistic about this at all. I love the books because they're a perfect time capsule of 2000s hipster culture for better and for worse. The already progressive tone is going to be turned up to 11.

When I was young, I thought this was cool. Now I just see it as a warning sign.

(sorry kiwibros I love you)
Honestly I look back fondly at the era in time that a woman was considered a slut for having a body count of 7. They're going to have to pump up those rookie numbers to be relatable to today's youth

I agree to a point but the live action format gave the movie a unique sense of style that i hasn't been seen since. A live action movie with those elements of video game effects added is still novel and the fact that it works that well is still laudable.

It will never not be funny a bunch of hipsters upheld a C-tier Canadian harem manga as a work of art because it occasionally referenced indie rock and video games.

Or that Edgar Wright threw his career away on an adaptation that banked on Michael Cera being a bigger box office draw than Sylvester Stallone.

Scott Pilgrim, ironically for a franchise that's basically an incel's fantasy, its main legacy is convincing terrible women that a die job counts as a personality.
