I've never read any of the comics or really that big of a fan of the series, but I know people were constantly begging and hoping for a motion picture of this stylized comic series, so it's great to see that it's finally happening now.

Now let's hope they don't completely fuck up the writing when it drops.

Oh I have such a soft spot for Scott Pilgrim. I still own all the graphic novels. The movie was OK but the books were great. Always wanted more stuff in this kind of style https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BitByGeWGxU

Also liked the video game which had no business being as fun as it was. Anamanaguchi doing the OST was an excellent choice.

Read some of the comic, didn't really keep my interest long enough but that's probably just personal preference.
Animated series could be good, but it's also on netflix so could go either way. But since they have source material they just need to copy paste and animate that makes me hopefully for something I can at least mindlessly stare at for a while when I'm bored.

Would be interested in seeing some side by side comparisons between the trailer and the comic. The style seem similar enough but looks a bit different than I remember.

Looks pretty good and I can’t wait to pirate it because fuck Netflix.

I’ll just finish my book set to support O’Malley directly.

It hit at just the right stage of life for me and I will always be a sucker for Scott Pilgrim. At its core it’s a story about an aimless Millenial burnout slowly becoming a better person. Not by becoming more “socially conscious” or whatever performative bullshit people latch on today but by actually learning to value relationships and accept responsibility for the things in his control.

what if a story about a soyboy simping for his slutty girlfriend, but also videogames?

(sorry kiwibros I love you)

I really fucking hate Scott Pilgrim. I was waay too young to understand what it was about and the horrible obnoxious dialogue that came out of everyone's mouths became too much to bear.
I was sold an awesome shounen-y action series with video game inspired urban fights and a cool romance story (It didn't help that this is what all the people gushing about it focused on) when it was really all about the interpersonal relationships between young-adult characters.
I "get it" now but I still don't *like* it. It's very proto-woke.
I wish I could send my past self FLCL instead. I would've fucking loved it.

I, too, was the perfect age and life situation for Scott Pilgrim to hit me just right when it released and so have a soft spot for it... but it's legitimately such a product of its time and generation I don't know how this will go down.

I'm not saying that dismissively or even cynically. I'm legitimately wondering.

It's just like the Teen Titans cartoon airing at the same time, IMO - it was made entirely for the teen and young adult millennials of the time. This was made in the 00s/oughts and pretty much set in the time period before the internet fucking took over every aspect of life. Oh yes, the net was very much around then obviously, but it didn't utterly dominate life until the early 2010s. People still went out and DID stuff so it wasn't a surprise Scott saw everything in 16-bit vidya terms from his POV.

Now look at today's generation that are of the age as SP's target audiences were back then. They're addicted to social media and living online, they're swamped in both oversexualization and puritan-virtue signaling on the same platforms, and I'll give them they don't have even the waning optimism millennials had at the time things could maybe-sorta-kinda work out on at least a personal level if you found the right people. Even the vidya is different -it's not SP/Lee O'Malley's 90s nostalgia as "the" gamer nostalgia, it's stuff like Halo nowadays. I also stress I'm not saying this (quite) as an "old man yells at cloud" thing. Just that this... this is basically gonna be sold entirely to those young sad-and-aimless millennials again instead of today's kids, isn't it? Just now they're STILL just as sad-and-aimless, except now approaching middle age and probably still never having found anyone who cared about them. It's honestly depressing to think about. I feel lucky I avoided those traps, and while I love Scott Pilgrim I can't really ever imagine it's going to be the same ever revisiting the series even in this new format.

Of course it IS Netflix making this. Maybe they're ready to move onto 90s-00s nostalgia if the 80s Stranger Things series is going to be ready to wind down.

I can’t wait to see idiots on Twitter mad that Scott is kinda a shitty person without realizing that’s the whole point. I love it when they make themselves look dumb.
