I looked at SCP-231, which is notorious for having been censored, but I couldn't remember was exactly was in it that got EXPUNGED.

Taking that out fucks up the whole point of 231. It's meant to be horrifying. It's meant to show that the Foundation has to do absolutely mortifying things to preserve the world.
Guess we can't portray our sensitive, progressive, mary sue OCs doing mean nasty things. Depiction is endorsement, after all.

SCP-049 is also a very illustrative example.
Unfortunately the archive linked above doesn't go far back enough to have the untainted originals, so you'd have to use archive.org to see the articles as they were back in ~2009-2012.
Just go ahead and compare the original SCP-049 and the bloated wall of text and memes that occupies its page like a skinwalker.
Similarly, check out SCP-847: original and re(over)written abomination.
Admittedly, the originals aren't very good, but for fuck's sake at least they're short.

I used to love the SCP creepypasta entries back in 2008ish. I didn't realise that there were so many now, or that they'd be so crucifying to read due to being absolute dogshit. Perfect example of "less is more".

They've totally abandoned what made the SCP a unique concept, a clinical document made by a faceless beurocracy to detail an anomaly and the methods to contain it.
Now they rush through the actual SCP so they can get to their 15000 word cringe creepypasta filled with clichés, tropes, self inserts, and ex machina devices.
Its fucking over.
The worst thing is as noted, they're methodically going back and assfucking the old, actually good entries.
A post upthread put it well, good writers got a start in the SCP and moved on, the bad ones stayed, but now they've colonized it and turned it into their faggy HIV+ Clubhouse and unless you're pozzed yourself and willing to lick the 'ditch, you can't even get a look in.
Its just the same, ever narrowing circle of pretentious hacks, circling the drain as they purity spiral into bland irrelevance.
Just my two cents.
Take it for what its worth and pay for a better story from Fiver.

The SCP wiki has a bunch of built-in themes for you to pick from. There's an entire "subculture" of idiots there who work on making them and then brown-nosing the admins to have them included. This is why so many new pages look like modern web 3.0 eyesores. Not using one of these is a great way of having your article rejected. Even if your article is a bloated Tumblr fanfic just like all the others, just using the default Wikidot look means the site's mouthbreathing brigade will label it a "1000er" (i.e. in the vein of SCP-001 through SCP-1000), which for them is a derogatory term.
Oh, and you know how certain pages have an LGBT or trans flag logo all year round (and not just during pride month)? That's because most themes also have a "pride version" which authors may choose to signal their commitment to the cause. I'm sure that articles that do that also get more favorable treatment.

One of the things I found most offensive was the fact the faggots that have hijacked and ruined the SCP have this fucking spiteboner for going back and fucking up the old entries, likely because they are head and shoulders above any of the dross that's being pumped out now.
Articles like 093 Red Sea Object are a good example of how you can still weave a compelling narrative while sticking to the format of an SCP article, but that would be too hard for the self appointed arbiters of what's good at that pozzed fucking joke of a wiki.
There are still some hidden gems in later series articles, Red Reality and the the Aristocrats are two that stand out to me, but they are getting further away from what made SCP unique, and fewer and fewer as time goes on.
