I know this is not related to SCP directly but take it from me a Humble Anvil Smacker you are right about the destruction of the Past when it get's in the way of "Progress" I have seen drawings and pictures / photographs of wonderful truly beautifully made buildings centuries old torn down because some Soviet inspired brutalist fuck in the 50's wanted to put a concrete monstrosity in it's place because it was "a old outmoded way of thinking" not because it needed repairs beyond it's worth or utility just simply because it's old an in the way of "progress".

The SCP downfall happened by less skilful art but driven from the same place, envy of greatness they can't possibly hope to achieve so engage in acts of wanton destruction to mask their own putrid mediocrity.

A lot of it is down to the source materials people are having to learn from and now sadly the environment they live in, in architecture one of the main books historically that was required reading was Ten Books on Architecture by Vitruvius, when that stopped getting tought an used as a reference buildings started getting Ugly and less inspired ugly has always existed but attempts where made at least to keep them unobtrusive and then by the time the 50's came around an Brutalism became a thing it was more than just a ugly style but it had lots of Political backing. So it started in the 1920's really got going in the 1950's and it's now deeply embedded to the point it will be VERY hard to change and the powers that be don't want an inspired populous it's to there advantage your not.
