The thing with SCP is it’s fucking MASSIVE, and even if they’re growing in number, the number of wokeshit articles is still just a tiny proportion of the library. I haven’t been on the site in ages so I dunno if this kind of stuff is being actively promoted, but if you’re the kind of reader who just clicks random articles to read, you’re not going to encounter nearly enough of them to think of it as a big problem.

Similarly, casual readers are not going to be aware of any staff shenanigans simply because they have no way of interacting with staff. You’d have to be pretty hardcore into SCP to even KNOW about these issues, and you’d have to be one of the few who actually bother to make an account to experience them personally.

This relatively large separation between the content and the the drama, along with the idea of “there is no canon” that’s central to the SCP wiki, makes it much easier to enjoy despite all the issues because if you don’t like an article you can just choose to ignore it, there’s sure to be more than enough articles elsewhere on the Wiki that would be more to your taste.

If anything, I’d say the bigger issue is a growing prevalence of articles that pride themselves on being intentionally vague, mistaking a lack of clarity for mystery or depth. Shit like that actively kills accessibility and 90% of the time, the “solution” is hardly a worthy payoff to the time you spent reading the article. It’s this style of writing that’s pervaded the site, and what ultimately turned me from an active reader to just listening to whatever SCP’s get narrated on Youtube.

also you should check out House of Leaves. there is no other book like it and it was one of the first "trapped inside a really big tardis like space" stories

I liked the older articles but I feel like the new ones have too many pointless format changes or go on for way to long with addendums that you have to read to get the article. I just wanna read about objects that do wacky things god dammit.

are there any specific instances of the staff bullying new writers or acting pretentious because they are staff members? I have seen a lot of them shutting down people who criticize there articles with "zomg staff post do not reply" but not much of them bullying new writers without giving good feedback. probably cause those chats get deleted.

I've been looking for parts of the logs to include in this post (originally it was going to be the focus of the first post) and I think I've found what's needed to convey more about the rampant age issues on the wiki. I'm going to paste the IRC logs directly in this time since the screenshots were just of that text file downloaded from IRCCloud anyway. The spoilers are long, fair warning.

Most of this is in regards to someone I'll keep anonymous who's known to have been severely impacted by the SCP wiki's sex culture. While 16-17 and in the SCP community, she lived in a country where 16 was considered an adult rather than 18, but sexually engaged online with multiple adults in America and elsewhere. This included erotic roleplaying in the form of an off-wiki porn 'tale' written by her in collaboration with a prominent former staff member (Eskobar) and an extremely well-known author who is wiki staff as of 2019 (Gabriel Jade, the author of SCP-049). Both men are now approximately 30. It was shared around the community, including in a NSFW server owned by the then-underage author, and it seemed like an open secret in the community overall. Her server had a "16+" role that allowed access to the NSFW channels. SoullessSingularity knows about this server and has not taken action.

EDIT: I've been told that there were other authors to this fic, but that they did not work on it as much as the primary three. We don't know their names though, and some of them might have also been minors.

Since I don't have a copy of it, I'm going to relay what I remember of it so that people understand the type and amount of material these people wrote with her: It was excessively violent, degradation-themed material in which the characters were openly self-inserts for the authors and it did not seem to have an end to it. Someone else who saw it has confirmed to me that it was at least 160 single-spaced pages of graphic sex and torture (it wasn't a story with a few porn scenes; it was strictly porn and nothing else). The main character was an 18-year-old cultist with anomalous abilities who was being detained by the SCP Foundation; Gabriel Jade's character was either 27 or 28 (Gabe's real age at the time) and was either a researcher or an O5; I remember less of Eskobar's character but I think he was a researcher. There was minimal plot and most of it took place in one room, where the two male characters would physically torture her in manners that I feel are considered extreme, even for fiction, by the vast majority of the BDSM community. The primary author made art of scenes from it on at least one occasion, though I can't remember where I saw the art shared or whether she was 18 yet when she made it.

I hadn't read that conversation since I screencapped it for this post and had forgotten most of what we said. I'm shaming both Gabe and myself here because I find it unacceptable that I apparently valued maintaining the structure of the wiki's inner circle/clique over doing what was clearly the right thing, which would have been to report it to staff (not that they'd do anything) and break away from the inner circle, even if it meant leaving the site.

Last year, Eskobar seemed okay with the fic. It came up right after a long conversation about staff and sex, and I think this conversation shows that both of us still did not understand why the existence of the fic didn't suddenly become a non-issue once the primary author turned 18.

He and I were talking because I had been invited to a NSFW server and he was in there as well, and as you can see, I even told him that I'd try to give it another chance this time. I'd been disturbed by it in the past, so unfortunately I did not ask for a copy afterward.

So, to any SCP wiki authors who are happy that they're finally accepted by the main group and are ignoring their doubts about that side of the community: Do not do what I did and tell yourself that it's fine. Instead, I suggest you accept that it's a fucked up place and distance yourself from the inner circle before its culture and trashy standards further influence you and others. There are successful SCP wiki authors who don't engage with the community on a personal level.

Here's more irresponsible shit that I and others did, some of it even earlier in 2018. Taylor_Itkin and I were friends back then and apparently I hadn't bothered to check if he was over 18 (I was 20) before giving him a link to #Site12, which concerns me because I know we had discussed my Broken Masquerade tales which contained sexual topics. To a lot of young people, the SCP wiki feels like a very open place where nothing bad happens because staff are ever-present, lurking in channels (as admins Soulless, Duck, Quik, and Dex, among others, were for so much of the above) while saying nothing, giving the illusion that nothing is amiss in terms of ethics or social standards. The "meh, teenagers talk about sex all the time, and so-and-so is from [other country] anyway, so the 18 thing is just a formality" attitude is rampant, and teenagers who join the site and take an interest in the NSFW side are taught through its culture that predatory and/or inappropriate behavior is normal and safe. Don't assume they're your age or older just because you're still one of the younger site members overall, like I did. And don't let any of those people -- or that culture -- convince you that 17 might as well be 18 if you're only a couple years older, or that someone who's 16+ overseas is as mature as an 18+ American, or whatever else. It's nonsense and it's not safe for you, them, or the community.

EDIT: I've been told that there were other authors to this fic, but that they did not work on it as much as the primary three. We don't know their names though, and some of them might have also been minors.

Since I don't have a copy of it, I'm going to relay what I remember of it so that people understand the type and amount of material these people wrote with her: It was excessively violent, degradation-themed material in which the characters were openly self-inserts for the authors and it did not seem to have an end to it. Someone else who saw it has confirmed to me that it was at least 160 single-spaced pages of graphic sex and torture (it wasn't a story with a few porn scenes; it was strictly porn and nothing else). The main character was an 18-year-old cultist with anomalous abilities who was being detained by the SCP Foundation; Gabriel Jade's character was either 27 or 28 (Gabe's real age at the time) and was either a researcher or an O5; I remember less of Eskobar's character but I think he was a researcher. There was minimal plot and most of it took place in one room, where the two male characters would physically torture her in manners that I feel are considered extreme, even for fiction, by the vast majority of the BDSM community. The primary author made art of scenes from it on at least one occasion, though I can't remember where I saw the art shared or whether she was 18 yet when she made it.

I hadn't read that conversation since I screencapped it for this post and had forgotten most of what we said. I'm shaming both Gabe and myself here because I find it unacceptable that I apparently valued maintaining the structure of the wiki's inner circle/clique over doing what was clearly the right thing, which would have been to report it to staff (not that they'd do anything) and break away from the inner circle, even if it meant leaving the site.

Last year, Eskobar seemed okay with the fic. It came up right after a long conversation about staff and sex, and I think this conversation shows that both of us still did not understand why the existence of the fic didn't suddenly become a non-issue once the primary author turned 18.

He and I were talking because I had been invited to a NSFW server and he was in there as well, and as you can see, I even told him that I'd try to give it another chance this time. I'd been disturbed by it in the past, so unfortunately I did not ask for a copy afterward.

So, to any SCP wiki authors who are happy that they're finally accepted by the main group and are ignoring their doubts about that side of the community: Do not do what I did and tell yourself that it's fine. Instead, I suggest you accept that it's a fucked up place and distance yourself from the inner circle before its culture and trashy standards further influence you and others. There are successful SCP wiki authors who don't engage with the community on a personal level.

Here's more irresponsible shit that I and others did, some of it even earlier in 2018. Taylor_Itkin and I were friends back then and apparently I hadn't bothered to check if he was over 18 (I was 20) before giving him a link to #Site12, which concerns me because I know we had discussed my Broken Masquerade tales which contained sexual topics. To a lot of young people, the SCP wiki feels like a very open place where nothing bad happens because staff are ever-present, lurking in channels (as admins Soulless, Duck, Quik, and Dex, among others, were for so much of the above) while saying nothing, giving the illusion that nothing is amiss in terms of ethics or social standards. The "meh, teenagers talk about sex all the time, and so-and-so is from [other country] anyway, so the 18 thing is just a formality" attitude is rampant, and teenagers who join the site and take an interest in the NSFW side are taught through its culture that predatory and/or inappropriate behavior is normal and safe. The main character was an 18-year-old cultist with anomalous abilities who was being detained by the SCP Foundation; Gabriel Jade's character was either 27 or 28 (Gabe's real age at the time) and was either a researcher or an O5; I remember less of Eskobar's character but I think he was a researcher. There was minimal plot and most of it took place in one room, where the two male characters would physically torture her in manners that I feel are considered extreme, even for fiction, by the vast majority of the BDSM community. The primary author made art of scenes from it on at least one occasion, though I can't remember where I saw the art shared or whether she was 18 yet when she made it.

I hadn't read that conversation since I screencapped it for this post and had forgotten most of what we said. I'm shaming both Gabe and myself here because I find it unacceptable that I apparently valued maintaining the structure of the wiki's inner circle/clique over doing what was clearly the right thing, which would have been to report it to staff (not that they'd do anything) and break away from the inner circle, even if it meant leaving the site.

Last year, Eskobar seemed okay with the fic. It came up right after a long conversation about staff and sex, and I think this conversation shows that both of us still did not understand why the existence of the fic didn't suddenly become a non-issue once the primary author turned 18.

He and I were talking because I had been invited to a NSFW server and he was in there as well, and as you can see, I even told him that I'd try to give it another chance this time. I'd been disturbed by it in the past, so unfortunately I did not ask for a copy afterward.

So, to any SCP wiki authors who are happy that they're finally accepted by the main group and are ignoring their doubts about that side of the community: Do not do what I did and tell yourself that it's fine. Instead, I suggest you accept that it's a fucked up place and distance yourself from the inner circle before its culture and trashy standards further influence you and others. There are successful SCP wiki authors who don't engage with the community on a personal level.

To a lot of young people, the SCP wiki feels like a very open place where nothing bad happens because staff are ever-present, lurking in channels (as admins Soulless, Duck, Quik, and Dex, among others, were for so much of the above) while saying nothing, giving the illusion that nothing is amiss in terms of ethics or social standards. The "meh, teenagers talk about sex all the time, and so-and-so is from [other country] anyway, so the 18 thing is just a formality" attitude is rampant, and teenagers who join the site and take an interest in the NSFW side are taught through its culture that predatory and/or inappropriate behavior is normal and safe. Well, don't learn it the hard way like this; you need to be sure of how old someone is before you become friends with them and talk to them frequently enough for sex to come up as a topic. Don't assume they're your age or older just because you're still one of the younger site members overall, like I did. And don't let any of those people -- or that culture -- convince you that 17 might as well be 18 if you're only a couple years older, or that someone who's 16+ overseas is as mature as an 18+ American, or whatever else. It's nonsense and it's not safe for you, them, or the community.

I think for a lot of SCP authors, the wiki doesn't feel like a place to casually write online, it feels like a long-term lifestyle and a group of people that you're dedicated to on a personal level -- which means it's easy to get very attached to people you meet there. I know it felt like that for me, and that wiki thread @vdnb6 linked to a few pages ago (in which I am the deleted account lol) seems to show how many other people take the site far too seriously for what it is, to the detriment of their mental health. It did always seem common for people from the wiki to get in relationships with each other, and I feel like it was partly due to the false sense of security we felt being in a community run by staff who are generally praised and considered to be morally superior to the rest of the Internet. And their emphasis on LGBT rights and shit is not only a political game and fake as hell (something I had to realize after playing into it for so long), it also serves to lower the defenses of young, inexperienced queer people who are looking for a safe community in which to come out and/or explore queer relationships.

When it comes to the graphic NSFW fiction, it always seemed to fit easily into the SCP universe; there's already a lot of dehumanization and degradation present in the universe and it doesn't take much to change the context to BDSM. Also, articles like SCP-231 with sexual undertones (or overtones) have been around since the early days of the site, which means dark sexual content was never taboo in the traditional 'canon' (popular/older articles); combined with open encouragement from certain staff members and prominent authors, making and consuming the content seems normal until it's too late to realize it's not.

They've been watching it ever since the summer 2018 drama with RPC, if not earlier. I feel certain that they check it at least a few times a week at this point, so they're definitely seeing everything. I have no idea what their end goal is with ignoring it -- I guess they think that it doesn't matter how many hundreds or thousands of people see the truth, because they'll always have thousands more active wiki members who don't know about it? They could probably be more convincing by making an 05 post about this thread and pretending to be open about everything, but I guess they can't come up with enough explanations for all that's here.

As someone who started reading the wiki all the way back in 2010, I can agree that this is aspect of the site's culture is the worst shift it ever had. The wiki was much better when it was simply writing for fun and the worst thing that staff had to deal with was someone acting like an idiot on site or in chat.

But now since the wiki's gotten bigger, not only do you now have authors constantly trying one-up each other with their writing by creating increasingly long and elaborate articles, but you also have staff members themselves engaging in disgusting sexual shit with minors.

Really, the whole "The more people take it seriously, the less fun and enjoyable it becomes." principle can not only apply to the wiki, but to creepypasta and internet horror fiction in general.

I'll give staff this, unlike the majority of people that end up with threads here, at least they have the sense to not dig their grave even deeper by attempting to defend themselves.

And yet now you see these same people whinging on about how SCP-231 (or anything with any kind of non-tumblr-approved conflict) is "inappropriate" and should be changed or toned down because there's "no excuse" for there to be said dark undertones in the first place. Bunch of fucking hypocrites.

Well yeah, there's plenty of good writing on the site. And it's not like the average SCP user/writer is at fault here. Just the "rockstars," and the mods. Fortunately if you just want to read around the site casually you can ignore a lot of the smelly shit.

Please note the edit button after you've made a post. It's up for 24 hours, so if you need to add an addendum to your post, it's better to do that.

That issue is because career SCP writers and casual SCP fans view the site very differently. writers see that there's about three thousand 'conventional' scps over ten years, and have read at least a thousand each. For them, writing this narrative-altering stuff is new and fresh, and they know enough about how the site works to chase down all the clues in the articles.

For anyone else, who's read, say, ten to a hundred SCPs, one or two HTML flex articles isn't bad, but they'll quickly wear out their welcome. They're hard to understand, often rely on reading at least some of the older articles, and they're rarely as fun as, say, SCP-682.

Can we just admit that the SCP site was just a creepypasta version of the X-Files and move on? I enjoyed reading the site, but it seems so rooted to a time and place (which was about ten years ago.) At some point, all fandoms play out, as productive people leave to pursue careers and start families, leaving only obsessives and degenerates behind. When fandom members start inserting wokeness into a franchise (in the same way a French farmer inserts feed into the mouth of a foie gras goose,) then you know you're getting close to the end. Someone should just publish a book containing the best of the canon SCPs and then the site (and fandom) should be put out of their misery.

The comment section saw a whole lot of pro-wiki circlejerking before being shut down by staff. One person in the thread seemed to have fallen for the ol' "this happens with any art community" approach. Competition is definitely normal in media, yeah, but should a small-time nonprofit writing site with a minimum age of 15 to join it be having sex scandals the same way Hollywood does? Pretending the place suffers only from mundane problems won't solve the worst and most pervasive problems.

Author pages have always been exempt from normal deletion rules, but after the comments section saw the new action (archive), staff all of a sudden started debating whether that exemption should be removed. So I guess constructing an entire discussion to change a preexisting policy in order to get rid of one page that offends staff too much is not 'silencing dissent' since y'all decided to do it through backhanded bureaucratic process, Roget? I've noticed over the years that staff have a disingenuous trend of changing their rules to benefit them and then acting on the new rules, i.e. this situation, changing the definition of 'harassment' so that they can shortly thereafter ban someone for activities that were not previously considered harassment, etc.

I guess we'll see where their discussion goes, but it's looking like scpcnrp's author page might get deleted. At this point I genuinely don't understand what the holdup is with reforming staff and addressing all the previously discussed corruption; I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be an "anti-wiki manifesto" in the first place if staff weren't corrupt. I guess I may be naive for still holding onto the hope that Mann somehow isn't one of the bad ones, given that all of them have tied their tails together anyway.

Aside from the relationship issues, this person also raises several good points about the SCP Wiki's culture and ways to improve it. I feel like raising the minimum membership age to 18 would solve a lot of problems.

1. There's the huge elephant in the room, which is that the sex side of the community has a very big problem with predatory behavior towards minors, which seems to remain a taboo topic despite overwhelming evidence that it exists. That and the sex side of the community is mostly preoccupied with BDSM, something inherently unsafe for young people. There's a reason why many fetish clubs and professional dom(me)s (at least in the U.S.) won't accept anyone under the age of 21. Minors and young adults do not have the mental maturity or relationship experience to safely navigate an actual kinky relationship and are at risk of harming themselves or their partners.
2. The SCP Wiki is a highly competitive environment where many people quickly become addicted to the rush of getting upvotes. It also tends to stagnate writers over time as they gain experience but also refuse to leave their comfortable niche. This is not a good thing for teenagers, who usually have very limited writing experience in general, much less creative writing experience.
3. Most teenagers are at a point in their lives in which they're struggling to find their identity and place of belonging while simultaneously being bombarded with the harmful idea that these years of their lives will define them and they're not allowed to make mistakes. I feel like eliminating this demographic would cut down on the bizarre tendency of the SCP Wiki to cause mental breakdowns and burnout.
4. I forgot to include this at first, but making the website adults-only would likely end any controversy about what kinds of mature content should be allowed on the site.

Most of this is in regards to someone I'll keep anonymous who's known to have been severely impacted by the SCP wiki's sex culture. While 16-17 and in the SCP community, she lived in a country where 16 was considered an adult rather than 18, but sexually engaged online with multiple adults in America and elsewhere. This included erotic roleplaying in the form of an off-wiki porn 'tale' written by her in collaboration with a prominent former staff member (Eskobar) and an extremely well-known author who is wiki staff as of 2019 (Gabriel Jade, the author of SCP-049). Both men are now approximately 30. It was shared around the community, including in a NSFW server owned by the then-underage author, and it seemed like an open secret in the community overall. Her server had a "16+" role that allowed access to the NSFW channels. SoullessSingularity knows about this server and has not taken action.

EDIT: I've been told that there were other authors to this fic, but that they did not work on it as much as the primary three. We don't know their names though, and some of them might have also been minors.

Since I don't have a copy of it, I'm going to relay what I remember of it so that people understand the type and amount of material these people wrote with her: It was excessively violent, degradation-themed material in which the characters were openly self-inserts for the authors and it did not seem to have an end to it. Someone else who saw it has confirmed to me that it was at least 160 single-spaced pages of graphic sex and torture (it wasn't a story with a few porn scenes; it was strictly porn and nothing else). The main character was an 18-year-old cultist with anomalous abilities who was being detained by the SCP Foundation; Gabriel Jade's character was either 27 or 28 (Gabe's real age at the time) and was either a researcher or an O5; I remember less of Eskobar's character but I think he was a researcher. There was minimal plot and most of it took place in one room, where the two male characters would physically torture her in manners that I feel are considered extreme, even for fiction, by the vast majority of the BDSM community. The primary author made art of scenes from it on at least one occasion, though I can't remember where I saw the art shared or whether she was 18 yet when she made it.

I hadn't read that conversation since I screencapped it for this post and had forgotten most of what we said. I'm shaming both Gabe and myself here because I find it unacceptable that I apparently valued maintaining the structure of the wiki's inner circle/clique over doing what was clearly the right thing, which would have been to report it to staff (not that they'd do anything) and break away from the inner circle, even if it meant leaving the site.

Last year, Eskobar seemed okay with the fic. It came up right after a long conversation about staff and sex, and I think this conversation shows that both of us still did not understand why the existence of the fic didn't suddenly become a non-issue once the primary author turned 18.

He and I were talking because I had been invited to a NSFW server and he was in there as well, and as you can see, I even told him that I'd try to give it another chance this time. I'd been disturbed by it in the past, so unfortunately I did not ask for a copy afterward.

So, to any SCP wiki authors who are happy that they're finally accepted by the main group and are ignoring their doubts about that side of the community: Do not do what I did and tell yourself that it's fine. Instead, I suggest you accept that it's a fucked up place and distance yourself from the inner circle before its culture and trashy standards further influence you and others. There are successful SCP wiki authors who don't engage with the community on a personal level.

Here's more irresponsible shit that I and others did, some of it even earlier in 2018. Taylor_Itkin and I were friends back then and apparently I hadn't bothered to check if he was over 18 (I was 20) before giving him a link to #Site12, which concerns me because I know we had discussed my Broken Masquerade tales which contained sexual topics. To a lot of young people, the SCP wiki feels like a very open place where nothing bad happens because staff are ever-present, lurking in channels (as admins Soulless, Duck, Quik, and Dex, among others, were for so much of the above) while saying nothing, giving the illusion that nothing is amiss in terms of ethics or social standards. The "meh, teenagers talk about sex all the time, and so-and-so is from [other country] anyway, so the 18 thing is just a formality" attitude is rampant, and teenagers who join the site and take an interest in the NSFW side are taught through its culture that predatory and/or inappropriate behavior is normal and safe. Well, don't learn it the hard way like this; you need to be sure of how old someone is before you become friends with them and talk to them frequently enough for sex to come up as a topic. Don't assume they're your age or older just because you're still one of the younger site members overall, like I did. And don't let any of those people -- or that culture -- convince you that 17 might as well be 18 if you're only a couple years older, or that someone who's 16+ overseas is as mature as an 18+ American, or whatever else. It's nonsense and it's not safe for you, them, or the community.

I’m honestly shocked there hasn’t been any big name you tubers covering this, considering people like MatPat (Game/FilmTheory) or Markiplier (Mark Fishbach) had only a few months ago had tried to spread awareness and protect their rights. You think they would have come across... I don’t know, something.
Sorry if this feels like a nothing post but it’s rattled me a bit. So much cancerous and genuinely upsetting behavior has been kept under the hood this well. I was a huge fan of SCP, and to an extent I still am. I can still enjoy their monstrous and strange entities, but not where they are from. Who made them, these people, make my skin itch in this 2nd hand discomfort.
I’ll share this thread with my friends. I think they need to hear all this too.

If it makes you feel better, most of the good ones weren't made by these fucking losers. The only regular who made good ones tends to be Gears, who made shit like 682.
