I have not paid attention to SCP since the RCP Authority split. Was in an SCP reddit discord (I was fishing for cringe) and they got raided and revoked any sort of invite for a full year and a half after the incident.

Yes. That is the whole fucking point of SCP and MFP, dumbass. You give the reader just enough detail so that they can make their own inferences. The original SCP was only 4 paragraphs long, yet it inspired an entire genre of Internet fiction because it leaves the reader pondering "what is this thing, really?" "where did it come from?" "why does it want to kill people?" and "what is this mysterious organization that catalogues items such as this?".

short to mid-sized SCPs go nowhere because they just describe "it does X, Y and Z"
so i'm like, "ok, but why does the author want me to read this, besides thinking 'oh cool'?" but you can't give them a meaningful narrative without resorting to more conventional storywriting through discovery logs, interviews and addendums
it's the same thing with Mystery Flesh Pit and its travel brochures, uniforms and OSHA signs but the creator doesn't paint it as storytelling

The entire website is supposed to be formatted as briefings for how to deal with these anomalies and some background information so you know how to not die when dealing with it. It's not supposed to read like a novella of some greater narrative. It's the difference between technical writing and creative writing.

You don't need an entire cinematic universe in what's effectively a monster and weird thing encyclopedia entry. You can mold a story around it and keep it to its own section. We've gone from "This concrete statue kills people and we're not sure how or why" to "there's forty billion alternate realities and this SCP is one of the ones where humanity dies" and it's really incongruous to the rest of the motif.

i haven't said i was in favor of SCP's autism, just that its writers would be better off writing more traditional works than trying to cram a narrative into a format that only works for things only existing to be cool or weird

my original point was that SCP authors shouldn't paint the format as a way to tell stories and turn their articles into novellas by awkwardly fitting in addendums

RPC-429 is probably the best SCP i've read but 95% of it is a (well-written) chatlog that the containment procedures, description etc have been lumped on top of

an SCP that tries to tell a narrative has to use more conventional storywriting which is longer than telling the reader "my SCP does XYZ, bye"
at that point, the bureaucracy is an afterthought that can be easily cut out
