SCP Foundation - Creepypasta with roid rage - now ITT: SCP fans

Funny that once in a while I see people trying to get good at writing by trying to write in SCP. Being good at containment fiction won't make you good at writing fiction overall, writing a gay fanfic of a fandom you like will actually enhance your writing skill rather than writing an SCP article.

Writing an SCP is perfectly worth it as an artistic experiment, provided you can stomach the critique process.

Art is less than nothing if there is no one to judge it.
Better to put it on RPC or some other horror writing site. Even some random jagoff short story subreddit would be better than slapping it on SCP.

Actually being able to comply with a standard format and style is a writing skill. If you ever actually make money writing things, it will more often than not be part of a larger effort, like technical writing, or writing within a franchise, or writing copy for some publication, than writing your own entirely independent work, because that is where most of the money is. Even when you are writing your own self-chosen work, much writing is in some form of genre fiction, where you have an audience with specific (and often autistic) tastes, and need to please that audience. You should probably choose something you would like to read yourself and where you don't actually hate the readers, so you can please yourself as well as the audience, but it is a rare writer who gets to write exactly what he wants and still make a living.

So being able to tailor your writing to the specific tastes of a group is actually important. Even if you do eventually get to the point of making an income dependent entirely on your own choice of subject and style, you will probably have to slog through the swamp of corporate bullshit at some point on the way there.

Even so, I’ve considered specifically calling out all major characters as LGBT and shoehorning gratuitous sex scenes in order to get attention from a certain demographic market. Maybe even using weirdo sex kinks like alpha/omega dynamics. Not because I enjoy writing romance (I don’t), but because it seems like a potentially profitable decision in the current political climate.
I don't think that works anymore, not unless you want to LARP as a queer too. And you have to weigh whether you prefer profiting from lunatics or keeping your soul.

Spoken like a true product designer.
You know who creates art purely for themselves? Serial killers. Serial killers and maybe hobos when they smear shit all over their hovels. Art is like a tree falling in a forest, if there's no-one around to see it then it may as well never have happened.

Fucking what?
Art should be made for yourself first and foremost, but unless there exists some kind of audience - any kind of audience - you're basically just indulging in your own schizophrenia. There's no growth without an other to react to your art and it exists to no one but you. There's a narcissism in being utterly possessed by the validity you get from phoney online popularity and praise for something which you've created, but there's also an equal narcissism in creating things purely for yourself.

Yes, artists.

Holy shit you sound pathetic right now. Imagine choosing creative self expression for clout.
