I'm not going to read too deep into this. I could talk about how a good society depends on people who will uphold social standards instead of just averting their eyes and minding their own business, how this is the basis of social fabric and its absence leads to miserable atomized people susceptible to things like the bystander effect, where people (like OP) will watch a woman be raped and murdered in the street and never do anything because, hey, not my problem right? But that would be reading way too much into some gay little cart nerd and his youtube channel.
His content also reminds me a lot of the Surveillance Camera Man, who was very funny before he was banned off youtube. They are like that old psychology experiment where you face the wrong way in an elevator. You're violating social norms but you aren't really hurting anyone or breaking any laws, just doing what people are really unaccustomed to (in this case, calling out people for leaving their carts.) I'm sure most people just drive away and never make it into his videos as a result.
The only argument I've heard all thread that is somewhat persuasive is that his magnets cross the line by potentially damaging the paint job on his target's cars. I've never really agreed with the magnet thing and its clearly an innovation of his to spur more over-the-top reactions for views, but its also just a fucking magnet. How much damage can it really do? And if your pristine sports car with the ice cream paint job is that vulnerable that a little magnet will fuck it up then maybe don't take it to the grocery store. Its just as liable to get fucked up by some decrepit pensioner dinging it with their door or some other nog who also left their cart lying around. And in that case you're a hypocrite for leaving your cart out when you'd lose your shit if someone else's cart damaged your precious car.
