Slightly off topic, but I was watching 'Fog of War', a documentary about McNamara. What struck me was he was talking about wearing a mask after WWII, when there was a flu epidemic. If people in the 1940s had common sense that basic mask wearing could prevent epidemic spread, why is it such a big deal today? Or if someone could correct me and find historical antimaskers that would also be interesting to explore

In 1940 the narrative was "wearing a mask helps your country, it's patriotic and good for your family too, let's all pitch in". In 2020 the narrative was "WEAR THE FUCKING MASK BECAUSE YOUR BETTERS DEMAND IT, SCUMBAG". More flies with honey and all that.

It also doesn't help that media trust is at a record low and the face of the mask movement is a bunch of multi millionaire celebrities and sheltered bluechecks with zero idea how the real world works.

They really did the absolute worst job possible to convince rational, normal people that masks are a good thing. Have you ever seen The Cable Guy? It's like that, only Chip is the DNC and instead of wanting to be best friends he wants you to wear a mask. All they had to do was not be overbearing totalitarian lunatics just this once. That's all they had to do.

If they just said, "hey, we have no idea what this virus is capable of, we suggest that if your not feeling well, don't go out (but if you need to, you should wear a mask)."

But instead they threaten you with arrest, violence, and limit you to where you're allowed to go or who you can see for arbitrary reasons. These people hate free-will and want to control every aspect of your life, even your thoughts.
