No, this is just the thread about the thread. 
But. In the spirit of it being better to start a holiday gift exchange and ask forgiveness than to ask permission, I'm going to just start organising it. Not to be in charge but just to get this going and working. If Null or someone official tells me to take a hike or to hand over everything, happy to do so.
That out of the way, I have now made a spreadsheet for listing helpers, volunteer X-Mas Spirit Bots (people what make emergency gifts when the original donor flakes out) and givers/recipients themselves. I will start a group conversation and begin inviting helpers to it. I'll set up the spreadsheet online. Just got to think through which service is best for not hassling people for info / tracking.
@The Last Stand You were a previous coordinator. If you have any words of advice, please DM me or post here.
I will post the sign up thread in General Discussion later today, using last years as a template. I'll add a soft-rule about AI generated submissions. I'm thinking there needs to be a sign-up deadline. I'm thinking 6th December which is a week on Tuesday. That allows time for people who are only on on weekends or particular week days a chance to see it and for the jiggery-pokery to happen in time for assignments to go out on Wednesday the 7th. Then perhaps two weeks for a deadline to make something means submit the gifts by 21st which is a Wednesday. Christmas weekend is going to be a right off for many people so getting things in by the Wednesday gives X-Mas Spirit Bots a little time to make something and time for helpers to get gifts out and people to post what they got in the thread. Oh yes, I'm going to add some STERN WORDS about people who don't post what they got in the gift thread as a lot of people get a lot of joy from seeing their recipients' reactions.
How does that all sound to people? Maybe buy a little extra time by starting assignments before the deadline as people come in. Though you have to allow some buffer loading so that it's not everybody just getting assigned the person who also just registered.
I'll hold off a bit on the sign-up thread till later so there's a chance for feedback and suggestions?
