Selecting a Despot for the Autism Thunderdome

Politics is combative by its very nature.
maintaining civil discussion on the matter is nigh impossible.
What the "ideal" political forum looks like is a place where people can talk about current events, provide insight and perspective, communicate differing viewpoints in a constructive way, issue corrections in the face of bad takes, and somehow not have it devolve into autists getting their panties in a bunch when they're told "no."

Optimistically: something kinda like this might be achieved with stricter "tone-policing." Allow debate. But issue warnings/bans, on a fairly arbitrary basis, when someone starts throwing a shitfit. Calling a retard a retard when they post something retarded is fine and should be encouraged. But if that's all someone is bringing to a discussion they probably shouldn't be participating at all. Ban threats of violence too, even if it's punctuated with "in minecraft." A community that constantly advocates for assassinating politicians, even in a *wink-wink/nudge-nudge" manner is going to be a lightning rod for unhinged retards that might actually do it.

In short: you'd need a comprehensive "broken windows" policy. If users see retard shit going unpunished, that tells them retard shit is okay. If they only see informative, insightful, and productive posts, they'll know that is what's expected of them.
Is this even possible in practice? definitely not with just one dude, especially if he isn't chained to his computer desk 24/7.
The real problem with that is it is easier to punish the 5 dissenting opinions then the 20 correct opinions therefore it becomes a hugbox over time.

I'm also willing to volunteer since I am in those places most.
Lmao. You really need the "no longer cares about anything at all" tag to get in. The people who would make good A&N mods are people who share the ideology of the core population, at least somewhat respect it, or are actual openly enthusiastic supporters, but don't completely tard out when their minority opinions are disagreed with.

Who gets to decide what's "respectful" and what isn't?
By introducing decorum-based rules and defining "meaningfulness" beyond "staying on topic", you're opening pathways to stupid and meaningless drama.
Those implied definitions are pretty damn relaxed around here and everybody knows when somebody's clearly acting like an autistic faggot.

It already gets called out by users right now with a very high degree of accuracy, so I don't really seeing it being some huge problem.

So someone like @Jet Fuel Johnny or @JosephStalin

Relying on "common sense" is unreliable, because for a subject that is close to someone's heart, one man's "autistic faggot" may be another man's passionate participant.

I almost feel like volunteering, but I'm not that insane.

Honestly all this board needs is more impartial moderation to keep slap-fights at a minimum. I don't care if people are partisan. If you really can't stand somebody's politics here, use the ignore function. You can curate your own experience here entirely to your leisure. Nobody is forcing you to read the posts from users you hate.

If we had 5-10 mods whose job was solely to dish out warnings/threadbans to all sides of obvious clusterfucks, then 99% of the issues here would be solved immediately. No bans based on opinion, no warnings based on content (aside from the obvious fedposts), just base it all on whether or not the sperging actually relates to the topic at hand or not. That's it, done.

Yeah. an actually good janny is a requirement to make this work.
If someone shows up to a thread defending tranny shit in a thoughtful manner and gets bombarded with "lmao trannies are groomer faggots ywnbaw!" it's much healthier for discourse that those engaging only to call the faggot a faggot get cleaned up, but it's much easier to just shoo the tranny away.

No dis against the first but yeah definitely on @JosephStalin. He is definitely at the appropriate competence level to wrangle the retarded boomers on A&N.
Wonder if @Meat Target would be up for it?
Joseph is good people. Very knowledgeable, wouldn't be a biased tard looking to punish A&H.
Meat is good at pointing out tards and turning retardation into content, and seems fairly respected around A&H.

I agree with you that whoever it is, while maybe they shouldn't be a verified Q prophet (shit), should be versed in the culture of the forum they're moderating rather than someone who just wants to fuck with the userbase or try to get the forum nuked just because they dislike it.

it looks like I'm the only jackass sperg from A&H who is even participating here

honestly if the problem posters can't come up with any solutions maybe we deserve to lose the board

I have no idea. I try to stay away from the politics and the abortion stuff. As soon as I feel I'm spergy I just don't hit reply. A lot of the problem is politisperging and people obsessed with abortion, women and trannies. Yes I laugh at the trannies. But there seems to be a lot of female hate on the board and it just screams "when's my government issued girlfriend coming via Amazon Prime?" I don't think they realise how pathetic they look because they are used to the circle jerk.

I feel like abortion threads, unless based on a current news story that's more than "abortion is a thing that exists" should be relegated to the containment thread, which is an autistic clusterfuck I lurk in when I need a laugh. Because every abortion news thread inevitably turns into a mini version of the containment thread. That way you don't censor the ability to read stories pertaining to abortion that are actually newsworthy. I think in general people have forgotten what newsworthy means.

So many threads about other issues too could just go in the Interesting Clickbait thread.

Also, in general, it seems a lot of people don't even skim the article. I see so many A&N replies where it's obvious the person only read the headline. If you aren't even going to read the OP why are you replying? I know some OPs are kind of long. Then at least skim and see if there's anything you want to address.

I don't think there's any way to enforce reading comprehension though.
Most reports are created by slapfights probably like 80%+ are. So if you do not want mods to quit just ignore that and A&H should in theory get 80% less reports and mods will not kill themselves or quit. If you are a mad faggot who is reporting someone out of anger you get ignored and either leave the thread or spam pointless stickers at the people you hate in it.

"He said a mean word and now I'm hurt" is a pretty common report type on sites. People that whiny need to go back to Twatter.

I've noticed that a lot of suggestions just boil down to acts of censorship in some manner, be it for comedy or opinion control, which is exactly what you don't want. All it would do is disrupt conversation, be it civil, combative or otherwise. It would absolutely cause your political honeypot to spill over into the rest of the board because, surprise, I don't need to type special characters to write what I really mean in a non-A&H thread.

What does "too invested" mean? I look into the news thread every so often to either post the BBC war map or read about progress of the war with the slapfighting getting in my way, which I will contribute to depending on what side I agree on. Would that be "too invested" for you?

Yeah. Censorship is not a good idea. Then you end up with a very unbalanced view and the whole problem repeats itself because some people are being told to STFU more than others.

What's respectful? I mean I learned that in kindergarten so it's not hard. Here's an example of disrespectful behavior:
"You fucking shitskinned zelenskyfag, he isn't gonna fuck you just because you're defending his honor on a fucking internet forum. People like you need to be rounded up and shot with minecraft bows."
And respectful behavior:
"Look, I just paid $40 to fill up my 9 gallon gastank today. All im saying is maybe we don't need to be sending billions in aid when inflation is rising so rapidly."

See the difference?

From my experience lurking in some of the "current event" threads, there are two things that in my opinion would improve them :
1 - Put a cooldown on posting. No one needs to post 15 messages an hour in a single thread, and scarcity increases value. Most of the inane bickering is done by a few posters chain replying each other as if they were in an instant messaging service. Something around 30-60mn (up to adjustment, maybe per thread or per user) cooldown before allowing to post again would discourage users from waiting for an answer and replying immediately.
2 - Give more emphasis to new or pertinent information. Something like an automatic highlight of posts receiving a certain number of :informative: stickers would make it much more efficient to surf the highlights to get the QRD on a developing story. To this day I still have no idea what even is the logic behind the highlight system, they might as well be random in some cases.

I have no idea how hard to implement those functionalities would be, and I know development of new features on Xenforo is not a priority ; however I really think those would go a long way to improve the quality of Happenings threads.

I have no master plan but maybe closing it off to people below a certain post count would be an option. It certainly would cut down on people joining just for the political sperging and sock puppeting. Alternatively maybe requiring posts that aren't completely retarded in the on topic forums for x amount of posts in A&N? I in no way am volunteering my services here, I don't want to go crazy.

Not really respectful. You're addressing someone in a caustic, passive-aggressive manner, provoking someone into an emotional response.

Baiting someone to play on their emotions is not respectful.

You had some crappy kindergarten education man.
