This seems to imply the people in the PM chains were doing the negrating which would mean the people complaining about being negrated were HHH and others presumably in the anti-Trump camp or something. Lines up with what I was insinuating previously that it's a few autists who stir shit up while simultaneously caring way too much (see: at all) about stickers.
I hate relying on ignoring for annoying posters but it's better than reporting or bitching to mods/admins because people are mean to you.

This is just, like, my opinion maaan, but I personally really am against gatekeeping or telling people the "right way" to enjoy and use a web forum.

There's a lot of posts ITT outlining various complex forms of this:
--you need X number of posts in these specific subforums before being allowed to post in the Thunderdome
--you need to have X number of post ratings elsewhere
--you need to have been here X amount of time
--daily post limits, ratios of lolcow thread posts to AT posts, posting timers, mod approval of threads and posts

Or the Something Awfulesque rulesets:
--ungrammatical posts are banned
--image macros are banned
--one word or "low content" replies (whatever that means) are banned
--wrongwords or wrongthink is banned
--rules that apply to new users or unpopular users only

I don't think any of this leads to a healthy forum. I think a person who signs up ought to be able to use every aspect of a site in the way that they want, and the community polices it's own mores and norms via discussion and debate or ignoring idiots. I think sometimes, a simple plithy image, video, or word presented without long-form comment is it's own art and can be ruined by elaborating to satisfy arbitrary rules of posting.

Also, I would really love it if some of the people who got so offended by negrates that they reported them enough to get stickers removed could articulate their feelings as to why this was so personally important to them, because I just don't get it. I legit want to understand, because maybe I'm missing something and I could agree.

I like updoots as much as the next guy, I like seeing when a bunch of people like my post, but I also don't care if I'm negrated and I seriously have no idea what my rating or score is right now. So I would love it if some people who covet a high score could help me understand why it's so important to them and why having their score go down with ratings of Dumb or Autistic or Islamic Content is bad. If you have to have mods, one idea SASS had which I thought was good was Admin 5, a shared account for a group of people to moderate under. It removes the cult of personality aspect and mod fear/asskissing. However I sense Null takes pride in having a transparent and somewhat vetted and professional moderation staff so that might not work here.

Since I remember you from SASS and as the owner of SS for your time there, I'm just gonna say that while you didn't do everything right at SS, that place, while it could be hilarious, could also be what we see in A&H right now. That's why I'm in favor of hiding the whole damn thing, I watched that place go batshit in real time with you and every other old SS and SASS posting bro back in 2015 when politics basically became less of a series of disagreements, and more like a cold war. We can argue up and down if that was the beginning, the root causes, etc etc, but the simple fact is that ever since then, In the US, it's become a cold and sometimes hot war of ideals, and that combined with a system of reporting events and wedge issues as ragebait for money has significantly dumbed down political discussion. Nobody can be coherent when they're angry about a deeply held belief, and that's what ragebait mills prey upon.

I doubt the ADMIN5 thing would work here. People in A&H are essentially against jannies to begin with, as seen in this thread. I get it, but the circumstances demand some form of moderation.

I wouldn't make anything public, you would just find someone who does the whole thing silently. As @Secret Asshole has so eloquently put it, it's not a job for anyone. And anyone lining up for the job should be silently ignored.

The thing with the negrates was that people had the absolute AUDACITY to negrate their posts and not argue with them like a man. Mostly it was about their numbers going down from people who were just negrating everything they were saying no matter what it was. And then it got more out of control from there.

The easiest fix I see is to never ever ever feature a happenings thread or any real-life bullshit (unless it directly effects the farms or a long-time lolcow). If you care about a happening, you know about it before seeing it on featured and seek it out. The only major problems I see are in featured threads, everything else kinda sorts itself out.

Add back reactions too. There are so many extra posts that would be ended with a hat or puzzle piece. Hell, you even see thunk and rainbow posts because people want to react and can't help themselves. If the problem is retards abusing negrates, at least give us back the positive and neutral ones.

Also, I would take a position as commissar, but not dictator.

We already have 'like' and 'dislike' ... It's not any different with respect to validation/butt-hurt. The problem with Reddit is that it re-ordered the comments based on the scores and obfuscated all but the +/- margin. Popular but controversial posts get drowned out, dissenters get relegated to the bottom, top posts get glomed onto w/ barely related replies because they are more visible.

My posts seem to get much more consistent engagement/visbility here even when I'm late to a thread. When I go against the grain here it's not 5 immediate downvotes and then nothing, it's back and forth for a day or longer.

Catching up. Apparently people worried about mean stickers caused a real problem. I'm going to be gracious and assume the team just couldn't just fucking ignore them for some reason. Still bring back the utility ones. Anything neutral and positive would clear up a lot of chaff.
