Selecting a Despot for the Autism Thunderdome

i think we should change how it's run randomly. that'll keep everyone on their toes. you never know when fun-loving lurker will become authoritarian master janny lurker SO DO NOT EVER POST ANYTHING I MIGHT EVEN SLIGHTLY DISAGREE WITH
Honestly I prefer some objective rules. That way if you get offended by HHH calling you an alt right Manlet or Mooan1488 called you a Kike you should be told to cope, seethe, and dialate. can't handle the heat get out of the dumpster fire.

I'm not feeling it, took the bait too quick. But If made tyrant of the pit I'll at least work to mitigate the negatives and to integrate the users while of course Letting our oldfag brothers still come in and kick the hornets nest so long as the rules the team come up with are followed. it's a thunderdome of course, and we all have to have our fun.
no, only the people who share my views get to have fun. the rest of you can pound sand.

Isolate it and limit the impact of users that mostly post there.

Keep threads from there off of "Whats new", add a property to the user object of "posts outside a&h / posts in A&H per day, per week" and make a threshold that if passed will rate limit their ability to post outside of retarded political areas on this site.

I stand for nothing. Make me global moderator. I'm an Australian who only wants to see the entirety of kiwifarms spewing blood because they're absolutely apoplectic with rage *sniffs peddy* thanks for coming to my dreamtime talk cuz
can we smoke rocks?

Reactions: Dork Of Ages
As yet another one of the (surprisingly) tireless horde of Ukraine thread contributors coming out for this thread discussion, I think if we really need to have an "Autism Czar" or additional mods for AT, I'll throw my support in for @JosephStalin as one of them. I may not agree with all of his opinions on matters, but he manages to remain civil, respectful, active, and within the bounds of the threads he participates in. That kind of level-headedness is a virtue any of the mods chosen should possess, lest we risk stooping to the level of the sites and forums we ourselves have threads to laugh at for their schizophrenic and heavy-handed moderation such as ResetEra and RPGnet.

The only caveat to that support is that I ask for the love of God and all that is holy left on this earth, please don't make a public ban message and start it with a single line only containing "Notable."

No, but it is very common for Supporters users to shit talk A&N users behind a paywall.
That's all they do in that supporters thread. At least the A&N people will do it out in the open. I always make a point to screencap Supporters when they're really crying about one particular user and send it to that user so they know about it.

I agree that we need an articles and news forum. It's a great place to go for news and commentary that is out of the ordinary. You won't get that kind of discussion anyplace else and it boggles the mind that it bothers people so much simply because it exists. I kinda remember A&N getting cancelled back in the day because some of the users couldn't handle the discussions that went on there, but it got brought back.

How about this? Threadbans for anyone who goes there just to cause trouble. There's an obvious difference between disagreement and starting shit, and that will be up to the moderator to give a warning, then a threadban. No crying about it. Once it's done, it's done. There are always other threads. If someone keeps doing it, going from thread to thread to start shit, just give them a sitewide ban. They're not worth having around.

Encourage members to use the ignore button for people they can't stand but who aren't breaking any rules. Fedposting obviously is an immediate sitewide ban.

But I mean, you got to keep it up! There are some great articles in there. @CatParty finds some amazing shit. @Larry David's Opera Cape too. I love how they seem to scour the internet for some of the most ridiculous shit you can imagine, but it's all written in complete seriousness. Maybe I'm crazy, but it seems like the people who have a problem with some of the users and opinions in A&H are the ones causing the problems, and by problems, I mean crying about it constantly, probably crying to null about it and to other mods about it. There are definitely some shit tier users who only post there who could probably go, but most of the regular posters are fine. I think you could give a stern warning to all the shit users that they'll be banned from that forum, possibly banned sitewide if they don't straighten up, which will keep them on their toes. If they keep acting out, they can gtfo.

And the people who just have a problem with A&H existing because "their opinions don't line up with mine!" tell them to get a life, use their ignore button more frequently, and just stay away if they're so bothered by it. It's amazing to me that on an lolcow website you have to tell people this. The whole reason this site exists is because lolcows can't stay the fuck away from the internet, but we have users, mostly users from 2018 on, that can't stay the fuck away from opinions that hurt their feelings in A&N, or anywhere else on the site for that matter.

I mean we have had autistic lowcows and speds post in both threads for a long time. The problem is the Politispergs who are old fags want to complain it's only the new flags who are the problem because like much of the post 2016 gaurd tends to lean to right. So old fags who used to back in 2015 Used to sperg off at the GOP and Anita sarkeesian now is upset that he's being laughed at for spergging out at the GOP because politics within the US and the west overall is going through a crazy paradigm shift. basically to keep it short.
Old fags are Upset that new fag users basically shit up threads and politisperg their right wing views. New flags feel like they're being unfairly targeted by old fags and that old fags are just lefties who want a hugbox. The truth is a bit in the middle.

I agree, seeing people whine to mods that their fedpost got swept and they still have an account is unacceptable and something i've seen too often.
lol snitch
for real for real. what a hero :semperfidelis: Keeping people on their toes.

legit though people seem to think i'm actually upset by it, but i'm really not. i'm one of the people who talk shit sometimes, but if @Caesare wants to give them a head's up because they're poorfags who can't afford t&h, more power to him. if i were a nicer person i'd probably do the same tbh

not you, seriously, now that the introductory dick measuring is over your quiet alright by me. Some people will be mad tho. and that's funny.

I mean you also have to understand the public opinion changes too. Online it used to be big back in 2009 to say gun owners have little penises, and Dems are less gay and Republicans will kill us all.
I mean just by a taking a look at the site and what it mocks it laughs at retards online. Just because Ralph might have a rare based take doesn't mean I won't laugh at his retardation.

It's sad that it has become a bit of an echo chamber but what are you supposed to expect when we have banned anything remotely controversial and not left wing/conservative Inc approved off the
normal mainline internet.
I get where some of the 2013/2014 people are coming from but I also see the stupidity in letting them run unchecked. Times certainly change if you asked what people felt about on issues even a decade ago it's wildly different from now. Most of the A&H crowd assuming they're millennials probably ten/fifteen years ago would be very much left of center. Their posting history would be Fuck George Bush and maybe early take the piss out of Obama.

Honestly you're better off at hearing both sides of the story. But you will very much see the spergatory go off on one side or the other and it kills threads.
The issue is that its like playing chess with a pigeon. Some people just don't want to listen. Can't stop good ole human retardation.

Ok guys, here is the deal.

I had a chat with Josh and we eventually came up with a path forward.
Starting monday, I will take over the pastadome with full privileges and no oversight.

We will have to split the userbase into two different groups.
My simps that will defend me any my actions no matter what, we call this group
Stockholm-Syndrome-Team and then everyone else are Problem-Members.
Everyone else will have to keep their heads down or me or the Stockholm-boys will
ban and doxx you ass.

Any questions?

The problem with objective moderation is that what is 'objective' changes depending on personal beliefs and situtional info. Like earlier in the thread, someone said something they thought was objectively neutral, only for somebody else to say they came across as condescending and combative. Were they right, and the other poster was trying to hide behind false sincerity, or were they over-reacting? That's subjective.

A good impartial moderator reads the room. If there's one retard in a thread and everyone is ignoring him, do they need to step in and publicly shame said retard? If somebody is posting long detailed analytical responses in a thread and ten people are calling him a fedposting retard, does a moderator take the time to actually research whether he's being authentic or just condemn him along with the masses?

Modding is genuinely hard work. Sometimes there are no right answers, only least-bad options. But also a lot of the time it's deciding not to interfere, or just politely remind people that they're ultimately the agents of their own misery and might want to just use the ignore function or just stop posting for a bit.

This is just, like, my opinion maaan, but I personally really am against gatekeeping or telling people the "right way" to enjoy and use a web forum.

There's a lot of posts ITT outlining various complex forms of this:
--you need X number of posts in these specific subforums before being allowed to post in the Thunderdome
--you need to have X number of post ratings elsewhere
--you need to have been here X amount of time
--daily post limits, ratios of lolcow thread posts to AT posts, posting timers, mod approval of threads and posts

Or the Something Awfulesque rulesets:
--ungrammatical posts are banned
--image macros are banned
--one word or "low content" replies (whatever that means) are banned
--wrongwords or wrongthink is banned
--rules that apply to new users or unpopular users only

I don't think any of this leads to a healthy forum. I think a person who signs up ought to be able to use every aspect of a site in the way that they want, and the community polices it's own mores and norms via discussion and debate or ignoring idiots. I think sometimes, a simple plithy image, video, or word presented without long-form comment is it's own art and can be ruined by elaborating to satisfy arbitrary rules of posting.

Also, I would really love it if some of the people who got so offended by negrates that they reported them enough to get stickers removed could articulate their feelings as to why this was so personally important to them, because I just don't get it. I legit want to understand, because maybe I'm missing something and I could agree.

I like updoots as much as the next guy, I like seeing when a bunch of people like my post, but I also don't care if I'm negrated and I seriously have no idea what my rating or score is right now. So I would love it if some people who covet a high score could help me understand why it's so important to them and why having their score go down with ratings of Dumb or Autistic or Islamic Content is bad. Help me understand.

If you have to have mods, one idea SASS had which I thought was good was Admin 5, a shared account for a group of people to moderate under. It removes the cult of personality aspect and mod fear/asskissing. However I sense Null takes pride in having a transparent and somewhat vetted and professional moderation staff so that might not work here.
As one of the people proposing those sorts of rules, I understand where you're coming from, but I think it's very naive.

We're not dealing with reasonable people. We're dealing with several hundred autistic retards who want to use KF as a springboard for gay ops, fedposting and tearing each other apart over stupid bullshit. Letting people "discuss what they want" led to A&N becoming a shithole full of /pol/tards who wanted to destroy what the site was created for (laughing at morons on the internet) and turn it into a far-right circlejerk that will destroy the site (it nearly did several times already).

I didn't sign up to post on a neo-nazi site. I signed up to post on a site where free speech was valued over pearl-clutching, and that meant tolerating a small number of tards. But if we continue where we are going, the site will fundamentally change from what both Null and the majority of the userbase want it to be. If we let this fester, word will get out that KF is /pol/ with even less moderation, more tards will join, and the journos and others already trying to shut the site down on the grounds that it's a "neo-nazi hate site" will have actual evidence pointing to it.

Null has the right to steer the site in the direction he wants. Being laissez-faire about moderation and site rules/mechanics is what got us here. It's not working, that's what his OP in this thread is about.

It's time to do something.
