New AN posters tend to be the ones who think they are in an exclusively male space.

Honestly I think it's partially due to us having way more women, or at least open women, than most other niche online communities. To this day I keep being surprised when certain users I assumed were men claim to be women. I'm just not used to that happening.

You're never going to kill political sperging on any site. No site anywhere on the web that's larger than a few dozen users has been able to avoid it. That's just how the internet's been since 2016 (thanks America) - every site either has the occasional politics-related slapfight, or devolves into an echo-chamber of some variety. Best thing you can do is contain the slapfights and sperging to its own corner, and punish any users that try to let that sperging seep out - it's not a perfect solution, but it's the only solution that comes anywhere near close to working.
If you only ban the most obnoxious group of political spergs, then the other politisperg groups will become more vocal and prominent since they now have less vocal opposition. And if you ban political discussions in general, people will still continue to start those discussions while arguing that their politisperging totally isn't politisperging because it's either "relevant to the discussion at hand", or "isn't a politician discussion, since it's something that everyone who isn't a [insert appropriate boogeyman term here] should agree on".

Best thing a prospective janny of that shitpit can do is take a mostly hands-off approach, and only get involved to punish the users that cause problems in that section of the site. Namely either the spergs that escape from the Thunderdome and shit up the rest of the site, and the people that go into into the Thunderdome with the sole intent of poking the bear and making it sperg out, which causes a mess that requires janny action. You've got to punish both, or else the one that doesn't receive any punishment will continue to do what they're doing, and cause more shit in the process.
Likewise, you really don't want a janny that has a strong opinion of the Thunderdome one way or the other - one that views it as either "a great thing that vastly improves the quality of the Kiwi Farms" or "a pestilent blight on the Kiwi Farms that needs to be neutered and destroyed" will almost certainly end up doing a sloppy job of being the designated tard wrangler, and causing a ton of issues. Issues that'll eventually create a gigantic mess that requires a senior mod or Null to step in to clean up.

I still think the three pieces of A&H are totally different, but it's good to see there will be more people on the job, maybe a mod or two for each area. I saw a few posters mention that A&Hs strong point is the informative posts, and peoples collective autism to sift through boring stuff and post what they think might be relevant and interesting. More emphasis on that would be great. I spend 95% of my time in Happenings alone for this reason. I have no interest in Articles and News most times, because a majority of news there is just copy-paste wall of text of said article, I understand it's "content aggregation" but you can still archive the article and post a more summarized, digestible take for people to read, and if they have time, could follow your source. Deep thoughts? Don't know, never go there.

Happenings is my favorite, I (usually) get a summary take on X event, and then I can leisurely crawl through the original sources if it is interesting to me.

My issue with happenings is sometimes you get 3 pages of slap fight, which is boring. You should get a reply and then 1 rebuttal, and if you can't come to a consensus in that time, at least you haven't shit up the last 8 pages of the megathread. I don't think permabans are the way to go for the slapfighting, something temporary, at least then there is some path to redemption, what if they have some knowledge on some future topic? Now that's gone forever.

If the slapfight time outs are shorter, then there is more leeway for new mods to figure out what works in terms of new "Despot" iron-fist measures. Just make sure the new despots actually like their fellow man, warts and all.

Serious post, after 90 pages, it seems @Null has 3 options:

1. Change little, adapt a lax moderation with some literal janitorial staff to merge threads and look out for illegal content

2. Bring in hardcore moderation with a ton of rules, elaborate point systems, bannings, and possible stipulations like posting restrictions and forcible mandates for people who mostly post in AT to participate in LOL Cow threads or be banned. And a moderation staff that is leftist or mixed to enforce this.

3. Delete AT and declare this is a non political site that mocks internet personalities and doesn't discuss current events
