I don't have all the answers to some very hard questions about freedom of speech and all that. I am here to laugh at funny shit on the internet mostly. But when on a whim i have posted in that section of the site. It has come off like the worse of /pol/ discussion. Everything just devolves in to right wing conspiracy memes like "Jews, Soros,leftists". Nobody cares to have any reasoned arguments. It has become useless to even engage with, because like /pol/ when you disagree you are instantly on the team of jews/leftists/Biden/NWO. Everyone takes themselves so seriously, i am mostly right wing, yet is getting too much for even me to handle the lunacy of it.
I know Null wants the site to be a place where freedom to speak is a thing he protects and exemplifies. But when so many people are speaking gibberish, it just becomes unusable to anyone and useless.
Political cows like Nick draw a crowed that attack his political views. Same with MovieBob. His superior future takes are political and are criticized from political standpoints. Mocking batshit political views is fair game. But A&N is just becoming an echo chamber for /pol/ posting spastics.
As for what could be done.
I don't want to go down the route of "ban the heretics". How about moderate for the /pol/ memes. They are boring and played out. Nobody cares if you think Soros and 12 of his buddys sit in a room planning world domination. Talk about Real politics, gamesmanship. voting. The doomposting needs to fuck off as well. The world and western civilization aint going to fucking end if a black person shows up in He-man.

Reform "Happenings" into a slightly broader focus on serious topics. Happenings is currently smaller than A&N but the goal would be to make it the bigger of the two.

I don't see why it should be. Dumb clickbait articles about retardation are a dime a dozen, but legitimate happenings are rare.

This is an artifact of the rest of the whole internet, not anything particular about Kiwi Farms. When you can call for violent communist revolution on every mainstream website without a care but get banned for saying "hey, I'm not a huge fan of abortion", any site that doesn't follow that trend is necessarily going to become predominantly right-wing.

I think you'd literally need a major shift in societal attitudes to fix that problem.

If it is a parody article or an article from a batshit site, two new tags that mark them as such so people know to not take it seriously or know what it is so they can discuss appropriately. That's about it.

I realise it's probably a ton of work to set up, but setting up tags for the most commonly cited websites could be useful. That was one of Fark.com's best features (remember Fark?), and it helped set the reader's expectations of the article.

The mods need to put on their hats in shifts... But more importantly, take them off.

I admit, though, the allure of A&H is rather great. I joined for the Internet Bloodsports thing (specifically the Jim dox after lurking for a week or two), and the site almost pulled me out of the sinkhole of Sargon and the other red-pilling/black-pilling whackjobs. Almost.

I don't have a job right now, and I have an unusual difficulty with dedicating myself to finding one, but I'm college-educated and can try to keep things clean.

My disadvantages are that I'm a little easily-tilted, that people basically know I'm a parody of a talk-radio listener (who doesn't even listen to talk radio), and that Null already considers me an attention whore due to my chat issues.

c) Necroing: No necroing of threads unless there is new information (an actual article, not an opinion piece. An opinion piece would be a new thread. And not your fucking opinion). This leads to people posting as if it were current, only to realize its like from 5 years ago.
d) No one word responses: Same as it ever was.

As a site-wide rule:

a) If you want to talk about politics and lolcows, it sticks in A&H in a separate forum. It doesn't bleed into anything else, so people who don't want to deal with it don't have to. Another forum would be good for this.

This should honestly be everyone's approach to the internet and quite frankly irl as well. The world would be a much more tolerable place if people would just get over this delicate sensibility that they have a right to not be offended by words.
