Selecting a Despot for the Autism Thunderdome

I'll add this (I don't want to be the despot. No one would want me and I don't have the time or interest in being head janny) even though this probably isn't what you want Null I think the best way to handle the Thunderdome is as follows.

Users cannot post threads or replies in the Thunderdome for the first month they register.

Users have to acknowledge the understand and accept that the Thunderdome is a place for discussion, shitposting, and slap fights. You engage at your own risk.

Threats and calls to violence are agaisnt the rules since they threaten the site. Any posts like that that explicitly violate US law(get fukt eurocucks XD) will be removed and the poster gets his posting privileges removed in Thinderdome for (x) amount of time following their second offense.

Bring all stickers back. It will decrease the amount of slapfoght posts if people can mark something dumb and move on. People accept the acknowledge and accept the risk involved in engaging in the Thunderdome.

Any complaints about stickers in A&H will be ignored by the mods. If someone leaves A&H to sticker stalk someone who hurt their fee fees in A&H at their first offense the stalker gets suspended for two weeks. Second offense they are banned from the site.

I'm my view A&H is a containment zone. Trying to change it into anything else is like creating the 'Soviet Man'. A&H is a symptom of what's going on in the world and there's no way of adjusting that without fundamentally changing what it's purpose is.
I like this policy. Very well thought out.

we shittalked at each other and it's over. that's the internet.

the issue isn't me sperging out or anybody else sperging out, the issue is people making work for Null by whining to him.
I think a large part of the issue is that nobody seems to even agree on what the core problem with A&H even is, let alone have a way to handle it. It always seems to get spoken about like A&H is a cesspit and we all know why, except that every time the topic comes up, everyone is clearly talking about a bunch of different reasons that they, personally, dislike it. It's hard to solve a problem when it isn't clearly defined what the problem is.

Is it just that many users have opinions that others find distasteful? Is it that there's too much repetitive bitching and name-calling in the threads and not enough serious discussion? Is it that many of the users don't venture into other places on the forum? Or is it that the vitriol is leaking out into other areas of the forum? It might include all of the above, but it doesn't help things when people assume that their particular beef with A&H is everyone else's beef with A&H.

I think you're right, though. I personally think the main problem with the board is users constantly bitching at Null to "fix" things that are out of his league. If you want to have political/current event discussion, you need to expect petty slapfights to happen. If you want to have it on a forum that prides itself on not over-moderating, in a societal environment that otherwise frowns on talking about things in a frank manner, you especially need to expect slapfights to happen. The quest to stop that from happening is why every other discussion platform on the internet is also a shithole, albeit a different form of one. I know everyone theoretically wants this balanced environment where they can calmly and intelligently debate each other over everything, but I think we need to accept that's not a reasonable goal.

I think the best that can be done is to:
a. make sure that anything questionable that might bring the site under legal scrutiny is swept up, and
b. have a system where all complaints about A&H-related drama/stickers are routed somewhere other than Null, or somebody who's going to complain to Null

Meh, IMO that's like trying to kill a fly with a sledgehammer. Tattle tells can be told to fuck off and ignored. Fedposters can be given limited threadbans with some helpful DMs to help them direct those sorts of posts to private discord servers.

Banning someone is kinda a nuclear option and should be avoided.

I see your point but I think people who don't understand that tattling makes work, and too much work will kill their forum, are garbage and should be taken out. I think tattling is a *way* more serious offense than you seem to. The mods have to look at all the reports in order to keep us all from drowning in gore and CP. Moderation is foundational to a usable forum and tattling gums up the works.

I think tattling is way more serious than fedposting because fedposting can just be handed off to law enforcement. Moderation has to be done inhouse.

Just set a very clear standard of what's not allowed and chop the offending shit without mercy. Like a card with a few bulletpoints. Like a loan checklist lol.
As in real life, some people are also just too autistic to function sensibly and this needs to be accepted. Ban them or tolerate them. 🙃

Yep, I didn't want to deal with the crap that goes along with being a mod. But if it means I'd be able to fuck with the subforum that Null is probably shutting down soon anyway, then I will do it.

Again, I doubt Null would go for it, nor should he (I wouldn't if I were him).

I'd really enjoy setting certain word filters
Would you bring back milking -> jerking off?

Fair enough. As you can probably tell, I have zero moderation experience. Is there any way a moderator can put the reports of certain users on ignore?

Gore and CP will be reported by quite a few different users, so ignoring tattle tells won't result in any relevant information being lost.

yep that's why I effortposted about defining the problem

also because like a lot of the tranny board/beauty parlor/A&H crossover TERFs, I might be a lawyer

a lot of the saner posters on A&H are professionals and academics who use the farms as a place to blow off the steam they can't in their worklives. and so they're not available to mod because they have real lives.

Going by regdate I'm part of the problem cohort, and it probably doesn't help that I even generally like A&H. However, I lurk in threads all over the site and had been doing so for a few years prior to registering. If A&H weren't around I'd still be here.

I think the only practical thing that can be done without enslaving some poor people to be moderators is to close AT until the people who won't assimilate leave the site and cull inactive accounts prior to reopening.

I accept this nomination and will be a benevolent dictator
I don't care if you tattle on other users BUT IF YOU TALK SHIT AND DON'T PING I WILL RAIN FIRE AND BRIMSTONE ONTO YOUR POSTING PRIVS.
If you get it, the Hulkster supports our new benevolent mod overlords

I also have no moderation experience so I don't know. But I can tell you that the "wait til more than one person reports" creates more work.

If we got rid of A&N, much like getting rid of a septic tank, we'd need to replace it immediately. Or just live submerged in semi-liquid shit.
