Unfortunately there are no miracle workers on the internet but I suppose there's never any harm in asking for a citizen to do some dirty work.

Competency should be no problem but trust is a whole other matter. Establishing trust with anyone is a long process that should've been done years ago.

I think you need to come back to us with a more concrete idea on what you want out of The Autism Thunderdome. Saving the A&N users from themselves is not a practical long-term plan. Any rando can pitch to you all these special ideas yet big grandiose plans have to eventually meet practice and that only creates disappointment. I believe you need to start smaller, like first hiring only one moderator to manage a small sect of the board, then build off from there.

I personally don't think that making a set of rules that say "if you keep doing this, the establishment will fuck this site to death, and I mean that literally, so now it's a bannable offense" is a bridge too far. But a lot of people do.

I really wish there was a time capsule of that autism us newfags could look at to help us understand. It's such a touchy subject for you and Null, I can't even begin to fathom how bad it was.

It really was an autism storm that built up over a long period of time and then really fucking exploded over SIG SEV getting banned for actually fedposting and violating the 'Clear and Present' Danger standard from the supreme court. People got REALLY heated and argued over whether or not it was, whether he should be perma'd or not. The whole fucking thing then de-evolved into people just 'maliciously' (as malicious as you can get by clicking a button) rating each other's posts depending. Which involves a number going down. It was no longer about anything related to SIG SEV, but just about fucking stickers. There were offsite forums and discords and it was a whole shit show and both me and HK were dragged between all of the sides of the autistic storm, REALLY trying not to take sides and having to actually go off site to make sure no one was going to do anything fucking stupid or planning any gayops on anyone else. You have to realize at the time we were the last two mods standing and were trying to calm an autism storm of maybe 75-100 people (I initially said 200-300, but it was probably more around 75-100. I was probably thinking of banned, offshoot forums that got into the shit stirring. Still we were just two people). And then you had the people running offshoot forums using it as an opportunity to gain members by stirring the pot and getting people pissed. Good God, what a fucking mess.

It got so bad people were preparing for the end of the forum entirely. That's how bad it got. Then @Null deleted stickers and things calmed down, but people are still retardedly asking for them back.

The answer is fucking no.

Prepare for random events like that to happen, autistic cliques to form and maybe have to actually go off site to monitor ALL OF THEM, making sure nobody is going to do anything to endanger the forum as a whole by doing something fucking stupid. How do you save someone who doesn't want to be saved? An impossible task lest you strap them down to a bed and sedate them, which I doubt is the course he would take.
I would redirect people who got banned from thunderdome to 16 chan /pol/ (supposedly they are the true heir to 8chan /pol/ after julaay but what do I know, I'm just a lurker) but I think they wouldn't appreciate the influx.

Is Jersh still running that imageboard in concurrence with kiwifarms still? Maybe move it to that or thunderdome threads get yeeted every month?

Is Autistic Thunderdome really that bad? I don't leave the Ukraine war thread because discussing politics on the internet is for faggots, but the worst we get in there is people occasionally a-logging Ukraine or Russia, or a discussion that goes really off topic for some pages, or a certain couple of posters show up and derail the thread with shit-tier discussion of irrelevant shit flinging for up to 10 pages. I've seen worse even in some lolcow threads. But I swear a-logs in general are getting out of control, it's like every thread I read is endless seething. If you're getting mad at DSP in 20 fucking 22 you really need a reality check (with exception for events like today's, really).

Anyways, I do think JosephStalin would be a good mod, he has his boomer biases but I haven't seen anything that would make me think he'd abuse janny powers or be a fag about it. That said, I want to have the freedom to jokingly/half seriously call Eastern Europeans subhuman or occasionally call someone a retard for having retarded opinions. I think you can successfuly moderate the place without turning it into reddit-lite.

There's a lot of pissed off banned users that have their own forums that also have active users here that tried to exploit the chaos to grow their own forums.

Especially if people are preparing for the end of a community. You have to understand a lot of people really don't like Null and because of the whole thing they saw it as a way to grow their own clout in their small shithole corner of the internet. And when things get heated, you want to know what is going to erupt like a boil on your asshole in the forum. You don't want to be caught by surprise when a situation like that was going on. You wanted to know if people were going to drop dox (especially YOUR fucking dox). This is a place where people feel this is the more 'lawless' area of the internet so they can get away with doing bad shit to other people or the forums and get away with it because the mainstream does not care about the farms.

This is just, like, my opinion maaan, but I personally really am against gatekeeping or telling people the "right way" to enjoy and use a web forum.

There's a lot of posts ITT outlining various complex forms of this:
--you need X number of posts in these specific subforums before being allowed to post in the Thunderdome
--you need to have X number of post ratings elsewhere
--you need to have been here X amount of time
--daily post limits, ratios of lolcow thread posts to AT posts, posting timers, mod approval of threads and posts

Or the Something Awfulesque rulesets:
--ungrammatical posts are banned
--image macros are banned
--one word or "low content" replies (whatever that means) are banned
--wrongwords or wrongthink is banned
--rules that apply to new users or unpopular users only

I don't think any of this leads to a healthy forum. I think a person who signs up ought to be able to use every aspect of a site in the way that they want, and the community polices it's own mores and norms via discussion and debate or ignoring idiots. I think sometimes, a simple plithy image, video, or word presented without long-form comment is it's own art and can be ruined by elaborating to satisfy arbitrary rules of posting.

Also, I would really love it if some of the people who got so offended by negrates that they reported them enough to get stickers removed could articulate their feelings as to why this was so personally important to them, because I just don't get it. I legit want to understand, because maybe I'm missing something and I could agree.

I like updoots as much as the next guy, I like seeing when a bunch of people like my post, but I also don't care if I'm negrated and I seriously have no idea what my rating or score is right now. So I would love it if some people who covet a high score could help me understand why it's so important to them and why having their score go down with ratings of Dumb or Autistic or Islamic Content is bad. Help me understand.

If you have to have mods, one idea SASS had which I thought was good was Admin 5, a shared account for a group of people to moderate under. It removes the cult of personality aspect and mod fear/asskissing. However I sense Null takes pride in having a transparent and somewhat vetted and professional moderation staff so that might not work here.
