Selecting a Despot for the Autism Thunderdome

maybe I’m a masochist, but politisperging (like about abortion, circumcision, womens rights, the Jews) typically just makes me a raise an eyebrow and I shrug it off.

Obviously fed posting is bad. And petty slap fights decrease quality of the board. But is the problem so monumental that typical moderation and containment can’t handle it?

Maybe I’m naive because I’m not a 4chan immigrant… but I do like people able to read crazy shit, bad shit, and negative shit that otherwise you’ll never be able to hear.

Maybe I’m the problem. Maybe I’m the tard that needs a wrangler. Oh god.
The problem is the tards like me that don't know how to chill out and laugh at the stupid shit in threads. Catparty threads aren't meant to spur on some crusade to save the west, they're there to laugh at dumb shit.
A couple times when I wanted to support the site I threw a T&H at someone who was constantly getting shit-talked on T&H. I have an inherent sense of fairness.
Ah, so you like to stir up shit too. I can respect that.

It's not that, it's the incessant bullshit where pussified little bitches incessantly report him, which does nothing but annoy the mods since he's usually not even breaking any rules. I don't know if they knocked that off but it was going on for a fairly long time, at least according to mods at the time.
I mean I can see that... happening? But I was mostly referring to people complaining about HHH getting trolled.

Like something people bring up is people tagging him all the time. He literally asked everyone who talked about him to tag him and called them cowards if they didn't. Then everyone started to tag him. Then he asked them to stop. Presumable most did. And now people are complaining about 'those darn A&H tagging HHH all the time, can't they just stop'.

It's like people don't hate A&H for shit A&H did. They hate it because Null always complain about it, and trolls go there and start shit and that's somehow on A&H, and then they never go there and just reinforce their dumb opinions about the place. And then whenever I'm in some other thread people talk about 'those A&H posters' as if it's an alien planet.

It's getting dumb. Ninety percent of the 'political opinions' on A&H are reflected across the site. No one likes the modern left. Even the people on the left constantly go 'well I'm not on the left/I don't support Joe Biden/I'm not political'.

But hey, "A&H posts articles about woke trans activists doing awful things and that's Bad And Different Than When We Do it."

Any board about politics is going to be ruthless as politics is based on power via accepted or "correct" concepts.
Politics is essentially what humans do so that we don't exist in constant warfare. That said, it is essentially a sublimated form of warfare. When politics fail, we are in the streets killing each other.

I can see what you mean. But take the abortion thread for instance. I stumbled into that shit show one day completely unaware it was an insane person thread. I mean, they had pictures of chopped up babies and deformed babies as gotcha points and were going back and forth at each other.

It accomplishes nothing. They’re not actually doing anything to change the world and they’re definitely not changing each other’s opinion.

But hey, y’all. As long you’re having fun, keep at it, I guess. Who am I to tell you what to do with your spare time.

And as far as the genuine schizo posting, sure it’s schizo. But hey, it’s kinda fun. A little bit of whimsical mental illness to liven up the board.

Holier than thou posters are not gonna like this quote.

What if Kiwi Farms was a site wide hug box all along?

I have to echo what others have said in the thread up to now. The problems of A&N aren't unique to A&N; they're just more concentrated. Bar the more blatant fedposting (which I report when I see it, because fuck that), everything that gets said in A&N is also spoken elsewhere on the site, by people with join dates of every era.

I think I've figured out the difference. A&N is unique for its rapid turnover of posts, as new articles are posted all the time that cover intellectually similar ground. This leads to a constant churn of the same replies over and over again. Repetition of the same ideas concentrates and refines them into ever more extreme versions, rather like breeding cows until they're overweight, docile milk factories.

The few megathreads that stand out as the exception even demonstrate the theory, I think.

Take this:

As for the Biden thread, it does kind of dance on the line between actual news discussion and going off on the guy. And that DM thing was weird looking back, but compared the rest to the Dome, that thread is pretty chill and doesn’t have as much postings like they came from refugees from other sites.

Compare the Biden megathread thread to other parts of the site. Like a cow thread, or one of the topic threads in Multimedia or Technology, it's got longevity; it sticks around and generates conversation, rather than only hanging on long enough to get the stock replies before it disappears past page 3. The Meghan Markle and the Soulless Wonder thread has the same character; a lot of conversation and discussion, a fairly chill atmosphere, and regular inputs of news and information about the topic.

The high signal to noise ratio of these topics is what's missing in the rest of A&N.

The hypothesis faces some challenge with the Ukraine war megathreads, which have devolved into two opposing wank factories, but I suspect that's because of the speed of conversation within them, as well as the highly charged nature of the topic. Other Happenings threads got retarded when they were moving fast as well.

A&N has become a dumping ground for random news articles, without any coherent or unifying purpose other than "talk about the stupid thing a journalist said this time". Some have suggested megathreads, but that alone doesn't solve the problem, as we can see. Others have suggested rate limiting, or forcing some sort of posting ratio, but again that probably won't solve the problem, and might only lead to frustration and even more extreme autism.

I personally think that some level of topic focus might be the best solution.

To that end my skeletal thoughts are a board that contains:

1) Broad topic threads. Details to be determined, but something that could follow the model of the Biden and Meghan threads.
2) some sort of "stupid journalistic takes" thread. Not a whole board, otherwise it ends up being A&N mk2
3) Discourage reporting for disagreement
4) Encourage better ops. Most of A&N's ops are god-damn awful. Though this might be obviated somewhat, if the broad topic threads idea takes hold
5) Ban the naming of the Hibernian
5) A regularly rotated general news thread. Something like a news megathread, which soaks up all the random articles that people post, like the interesting clickbait thread but with a broader scope. Close it and post a new one every 200 pages or something.
6) Rename the board to "News and Political Content"

I'd also suggest keeping a tighter lid on the Happenings board, which currently gets a fair number of poorly disguised "this article is stupid and I want to complain about jews/niggers/democrats/republicans" threads.

I've not thought about Deep Thoughts in this. It's got its own little microsubculture, even inside the thunderdome, so I think it would need to remain separate.

Well I have the dreaded stickers so.
I thought that was mostly people trying to drag him back into a thread where he decided to depart. And then these assholes would taunt him into responding and then report him like complete fags.
People talked a bunch about HHH when he wasn't there. He complained about them not tagging him. Called anyone not tagging him while talking about him a coward. Everyone started tagging him all the time and it got to much for him. Though frankly people also being assholes at him is not something I find unlikely.

As a rule of thumb I avoid those abortion threads because they tend to draw out the worst autists.
how come a&h tards can't laugh at things?

are most users there actually clinically certified autistic?
They feel like they have to defend their litter box, even when it needs cleaning.

I always noticed that autism and shook my head. If you don't like someone, you don't have to sped out and brag about weak shit like blocking them or constantly tag them to try and own them.

i usually insert the most baity, childish one liners ever and it totally pisses them off lol

Make a subforum called Fight Night where posters if they shitfling are forced to baitpost eachother until one quits. The loser gets banned from AT. The cost of attendence, betting on the winner and snacks would put this forum in the green overnight.

I disagree that I shouldn't be able to discuss something newsworthy on my own site though. Where else am I going to post about shit? I go to /pol/ after the TX shooting and the threads are mostly just discussions about which of the dead children are the sexiest. I can't fucking stand 4chan anymore, it's ruined.
Megathread the "hot button" issues like abortion, gun control etc, hand out thread bans for someone even thinking of derailing or sperging. Maybe give each mega thread its own dedicated mod then it's not a Herculean task to keep up and have a head mod for appeals, advising thread mods etc.

Then stamp out the posting of click baity articles from outlets with a daily view count in the double digits. That would stomp out a lot of the bull shit very quickly.

I'd be up for attempting the transformation of the boards if I had near totalitatian control getting it in line in the first instance at least.

I think the Ukraine thread is because no one has a clear idea wtf is going on with the Ukraine war so no consensus can form about it. No information about the war is credible enough for everyone to settle on a common underlying understanding of the situation.

Think you might have some okay ideas. Broad topics might be an okay idea. A megathread for smaller articles could be okay... not sure. But don't rename it to 'Political Discussion'. You don't want political verbal slapfights you want content. If you have to rename it do 'News and Political Content'.

I see your point. It's the same matter of low signal to noise ratio again, but I have no idea of a solution for it.

That does work better.
