There is a problem with a smaller number of users and their baiters though.
They do not understand what the farms are all about. It is about laughing at lolcows and commenting. Sometimes a political person is a lolcow, sometimes a political opinion is a lolcow, sometimes your favorite politicians does something stupid and is a lolcow.
But it is all ok, it is about commenting on and laughing at lolcows where ever they are.

Now, some, and I think it is only a few, don't understand this and think that when their favorite politician or hot-button topic gets ridiculed then they take it as a personal insult and get angry. They think that here on the farm we have arguments, and even worse, some of these retards think that "they have to win the argument". This site is not a site for winning or losing arguments. This is not a site for having arguments at all in the first place.
This is a complete failure to understand what the farms are even about.

Whoever becomes mod should just warn these, few, people that we are not here to have a discussion forum to have arguments and see who wins. We are here to laugh at lolcows. It they want to argue and have a goal to win arguments they should fuck off and join reddit.

This thread itself has now become a perfect example of the issues with the Thunderdome - people post their retarded opinions, other people reply to them posting similarly retarded opinions of the other variety (either because they genuinely disagree, or just feel like baiting and starting shit), and then both of them engage in an autistic slapfight that enrages for several pages, followed by one or both users reporting the other one to the site admins for "negrating me", "not respecting my idea of site culture", or "sperging out (ignore my posts though they're totally not a sperg out)". Place your bets that one or both of the users in the most recent "Incredibly Serious Political Debate™" in this very thread has written a sternly-worded report to the jannies demanding that the other person be punished - a report that boils down to one of those exact reasons.

People need to learn that it isn't a moral duty for them to go on a righteous crusade to "own the libs/progs/cons/chuds/whatever", you're posting on a containment board on a drama forum dedicated to a fat autistic troon with an Oedpius complex. If you're upset about people with different opinions posting in your containment board, just ignore the user and move on. If you're upset about the existence of said containment board, just don't open it and report the users that bring that shit out of that board - no-one's forcing you at gunpoint to go into that board. I guarantee that 90% of the headaches that are slowly driving Null insane relating to the Thunderdome are the result of users joining threads about things they disagree with, and then getting mad when the thread's about a thing they disagree with and proceeding to shit it up, generating both reports from the users in there against them as well as reports from them against those users.

Remember, if you think the other side are lolcows, you going out of your way to start shit with them would make you a ween, just like it would with any other lolcow or group of lolcows. You're not breaking new ground in trolling by baiting the town retard, you're just creating a mess that the (unpaid) jannies have to clean up, one that causes Null to blow yet another blood vessel in his brain.

The most I can really say about A&H is despite all it's flaws and bullshit in between, it's kind of a "haven" for me. I probably shouldn't come to KF for most of my news but to an extent it's somewhat reliable, even if it's about stupid pop culture topics, or if it's about tragic events that I don't necessarily want to read about. It's nice feeling in the loop with the world in that way, I guess. I also heavily appreciate the fact that archiving is integral to this site, the paywalls on news sites are nearly unavoidable. That in itself is probably one of the biggest reasons why I personally didn't bother with trying to catch up on the news online for the past five years or so.

Like what others mentioned it's also become a hub for people to vent, I know I'm not immune to that and I admittedly need to cut back on some of the things I post, and especially how I tone my posts. I'm getting tired of the endless anger-postings myself, whether I'm reading them from other users or if it's coming from me. Thank you Null and the mods here for putting up with my shit and everyone else's, in the end of it all I really love this site.

I suppose I'm a bit late to the party to shit out my two cents on moderation policy in detail now that the thread is old and derailed into a bitch fest (imagine my shock that it's the same old people who did it). My thoughts have more or less already been stated in some form anyway.

The understanding I'm getting is Null appears to recognize that there is value to have a space to discuss current events and news that is more than just a containment space or dumping ground. And I'm glad to see he isn't caving into the pressure to delete it being created by the malicious posters that shit the place up in order to see it gone. There is value to be had in discussing current events and few places left to do so openly.

The real question is if the mods will be allowed to take the necessary actions required to keep it useable for discussion. I think the key is that a discussion of current events is fundamentally different from documenting and pointing-'n'-laughing at lolcows. Pointing-'n'-laughing works when there is a common clown to laugh at, but without one the users substitute each other for that role. That just leads to threads full of worthless shit which makes engaging in the discussion not worth it. The moderation should be cognizant of that difference while keeping things within the realm of the overall site culture.

I think one roadblock to having a usable current events forum is that the problem users are both internet gypsies and hysterical oldfags. Null seems to be emotionally attached to a community that no longer exists (it died when the leak happened and a bunch of oldfags left). So while it is easy to tell the gypsies to fuck off, there is less desire to put the hysterical oldfags into the kennel when they misbehave. And they misbehave because they know this.

Anyway, I nominate Harry Russo for head mod and propose that all posters be required to watch Schizophreniac 2 in full without bitching about it before gaining posting privileges.

I like how you've put this and to be honest I think most everyone has some lolcow in them worth laughing at. However, I do feel a lot of the commotion such as about this topic is due to the lack of context or an issue with Poe's law. I think sometimes some posters are presented as super duper serious and "trying to win" as you put it and some are merely relishing in the humor of the situations and even memes within the discussion. In a sense they may represent an idea or philosophy and standing as a representation of it. The problem is due to a lack of mind reading or even questioning it can lead to optics of only being overtly serious. Some posters try to mitigate it by bringing up an obvious flaw of themselves which I don't think is always properly read in the room.

I'll use the HHH debacle as an example: I'm sure HHH is trying to get laughs from those he baits, and sometimes I think the bait posters are trying to get a good laugh for his antics. I remember months ago people were giving advice to HHH on how to improve his trolling antics because that too would be a lolcow energy, a humorous interaction. The problem in this is one side thinks he's serious because of him "looping" the same insults which might be an issue in his personal life so I'm not going to dwell too much into that. Now some were obviously trying to get him banned I won't deny that at all, but I think some baited for that 1/100 times that made the situation a great laugh/jabbing on all fronts or led to a integration of the culture. (Like the few positive exchanges I had with HHH)

However, one part of one side merely sees HHH as just a disruptive asshole. I don't think that's the entire issue myself but I digress. The other side sees it as a personal attack, some parts of both sides see it as tard raging or baiting when it could be something more. The issue is it comes off as more serious than it actually is and instead of a lolcow/blowing steam off with a humorous troll it seems more serious than it should be. On the other end the moderators and Null see this from either side and from their perspective might see it as anti-thetical to the concept of this site,or leading into a constant repeating argument that reflects badly on both sides.

It's why some of us ( I think) want to have a honest conversation about this because it can clear this whole antagonized scenario and lead to a better outcome. Laughing at how stupid it really is. However because of how lacking the communication is between all parties (not just the "two sides" Null as well) it's left in a standstill where it leads to Null being angry, both sides being angry and nothing really being able to be made more obvious or resolve in that notion.

It's like the notion of slapfights I don't think some are too serious and can lead to interactions that can be positive for both sides the problem is it's becoming "mean girls the musical" instead of taking the piss out of silly events. I think if that could be somehow solved that would show an integration of KF culture even by man members, but because of the misconceived perceptions of everyone in this event nothing can be solved making this such an issue. It's more of a communication break down than whever all the sides observing this issue believe it is. With a few exceptions such as some posters purposely being malicious and not actually trying to lead to a humorous event or social interactions between opposing groups on the forum or trying to prevent such a resolution due to certain agendas.


I also understand that Null may not like these serious discussions in regard to this whole situation in the first place, but I really believe it's being blown up to something it never actually was. Leaving everyone angry or defensive or tilling at windmills that were never cyclops and leading to something it literally does not need to be. I think the solution (outside of making a quality post filer or some shit) is easily manageable if everyone is willing to come to the table, but that's a huge ass if.
