I think the Salon/Milo debacle is most indicative of why the left will not embrace pedophiles. Salon had a number of articles written by a "virtuous" pedophile that claimed he didn't rape. However, when the opportunity to attack Yiannopoulos as a pedophile arose, all those articles disappeared.

The simple fact is that while there is a history of empathizing with or intellectualizing kid diddling on the left. accusations of pedophilia remain too damaging and useful to fully reconcile with those impulses.

Eh, I don't know about that. The "John" story is completely fabricated, any therapist who would decline to see someone who had the ability to pay for treatment would be immediately stripped of their license to practice. I don't think any state in the union doesn't have a strictly regimented licensing board for mental health caregivers. Even in the instances of a lack of ability to pay, there are community mental health treatment centers that "John" would have been referred to so he could receive treatment.

Sex offenders are almost always ordered to undergo psychiatric treatment, especially in the instances of pedophilia. Therapists may specialize in certain areas like marital counseling or adolescent care, but I doubt any therapist would say "you don't deserve treatment because you're icky". Therapists have pretty much heard everything. Nothing really shocks them.
