I mean if this has happened and is ok for enough big number of people, why wouldn't they wanna turn their dangerous illness into a some progressive identity instead of.. actual dangerous mental illness that requires castration, life long therapy, obvious social stigma and god knows what.

I'm somewhat active in my local lgbtq scene (I'm a lesbian) but most of what I do for community help outside of socializing has been getting people out of abusive relationships (I help straight people too when I find out they need it).

There is a myth that queer people cannot be abusive. There is a myth that it is only straight men. this is not how it works. I have seen lots of abuse in gay and lesbian couples. And a LOT of those relationships start when the victim is underaged. I've picked up 16 and 17 year olds to get them out of apartments they had to share with people in their 30s. It's BAD.

See, gay kids are extra vulnerable. Straight kids don't really get kicked out of their homes just because they are straight, but that happens to a lot of gay kids. More than you'd think, even with today's climate. its better than it was when I was a kid but still bad. those kids are miserable and fucked up. a lot kill themselves. Those homeless kids craving the affection of a parent and craving role models are easy prey for predators hiding in the lgbtq community who are happy to scoop them up and pretend to love them while abusing them.

It's critical for adults to protect kids at all costs and that means rooting out potential predators in any community you are a part of and expelling them. A gay child rapist might be gay, but s/he may NOT be part of our community under any circumstances (Similarly we shun men who hit their husbands, women who hit their wives, etc.)

I don't support criminally punishing pedophiles who haven't (yet?) offended, but they cannot be permitted to be around minors, period. The child's safety is more important than a pedophile's desire to participate in community or group activities.

Specialized therapy does exist for pedophiles and I would love to see that implemented in the US. if it can prevent even one of them from becoming a predator it would be worth it.

At this point, the LGBT community already has a hard time kicking out pedophiles, especially on the transgender side of things. If a trans woman diddles a kid, she'll get off scot free because she either did it before she transitioned or because since she's a trans woman she can do no wrong.
