Diseased Shippers, Anti-Shippers, and Shipping Wars - When fictional characters fucking each other is a political statement

The people you mock here make direct arguments using the source material? Pressing ❌ on that one. I suspect they're more the type to just say opposing points aren't worth listening to, and exist in a bubble like the one I think you've already described. Which is like you, and you specifically.

I can list various points in my favor, and I suspect I should:

I've played the game. I don't think you guys have. That's why my posts discuss the merits and yours do not.

I've played the game. I was not here to discuss the merits of the CT, CA, ZA etc romances but the CA meltdown at Tifa getting a kiss and Aerith not and trying everything to cope, deny and downplay.

I already volunteered what my stake/position was, contrary to the claim I'm hiding it. And it's a far less shipperheaded position than you seem to have.
It's not your stated position that's coming across as "shipperheaded" but your reaction and defensiveness toward people on that same side of the fandom being dumbasses.

I posted an actual shipper meltdown that's inherently more remarkable.
Yeah, no one on either side is defending that meltdown.
You're defending acting as a shield for people on the CA side. And for your ship at the same time.

I confess I have nobody to dickride me, you have me beat there, but I don't need it.
Is there some past history between you and Ceiling Kitten? Otherwise this comes out of nowhere and makes no sense.

But also @LoverofPi says he's "just describing people changing their positions", which I haven't done at all because I don't take the hardline position either way. So even the dickriding isn't that good.
It's far more than "people changing their positions" and I never said that was all I was talking about. It was just one example of the various copes I have been seeing online, a handy one to explain that a large portion of the shipping fandom has been losing their shit. If you read my post you'd have seen I also referenced the "He only kissed Tifa because he was jealous that Aerith has feelings for Zack" insanity.

Anyway, Tifa gets metaphorically pumped and dumped unless you just ignore Aerith in addition to pursuing Tifa herself. The reasonable explanation is that she's more popular and so her content gets more fandom content. But if you play the game she's obviously not the focus, hence why there's the narrative dissonance if you go for her.
And now you're repeating several other common talking points and I have to wonder if you were paying attention to the game at all.

//Is there some past history between you and Ceiling Kitten? Otherwise this comes out of nowhere and makes no sense.//

I… have no idea what they’re talking about. We agreed and disagreed once in a while, I knew who they were (and likely viceversa) and that was all. But they never had a meltdown like the one they’re having now, and just because some people questioned their FF7R views.

I’m still confused, ngl. I threw the CloTi comment mostly as “company” to the main theme I wanted to talk about, the possible sinking of BakuDeku. *sigh*

I can (now) tell you’re trying to be very fair but I don’t think this is accurate: the devs were asked about the Tifa date when they said this. And have previously indicated the OG Aerith date, which the new one closely adhered to unlike the other options with their original incarnations, was canon then.
Buddy, you yourself are painfully biased and sound like you’re getting a little riled up over all this. "You all read it wrong" is exactly what a coping shipper says, and the only one here acting like that is you. It’s really not that deep and I can tell you right now that I played both games.

None of the dates are canon. The Aerith one is technically the closest to being canon, as ever since the OG it was ridiculously easy to get her as your date due to the hidden dialogue mechanics plus her role in the story, but they’re still all fluff and it literally doesn’t matter which one you get. It’s useless to debate who Cloud is “actually” in love with since it doesn’t make a drastic impact on the story. Rebirth places a lot of emphasis on Aerith and her relationship with Cloud, no one with any sense is denying that. The whole point of what I and the others are saying is that Clerith fans had a massive freak out over the Cloti kiss regardless of its bearing on canon. I saw the denial firsthand, it was very real and very funny. You seem too focused on trying to defend Clerith and its shippers to address the actual topic at hand. And like LoverofPi said, no one's defending the Cloti(s) who harassed the devs. That was certainly a meltdown but calling it "an actual one" and "inherently more remarkable" is strictly your bias showing. The Cleriths had their own meltdown over the kiss that you keep glossing over.

Once again, at the end of the day, both sides have been pissy over petty things that don’t matter. Tifa and Aerith have been pitted against each other since 1997; both Cloti and Clerith fans have their own things to enjoy and yet they still squabble and pick each other’s arguments apart. They always will, there’s no changing that regardless of what part three brings to the table. And that’s where the entertainment comes from.

The closest to an actual ship war until now took place a while ago. We Kiwis were commenting on a Reylo fanfic writer who got an actual publishing deal with an “uni professor x recent graduate romance” story… and someone came in flinging shit and yelling about their hatred of Reylo, teacher/student stories, and other stuff.

It was short, but hilarious.

Well, sorry and welcome! I can bring out some of the other crazy takes I've been seeing in that fandom if there's interest.

In the meantime, I want to talk about a different ship war. Perhaps the dumbest ship wars I have ever encountered, because it's a one sided war between fans of one ship, and another ship in the same fandom that doesn't involve any of the same characters.

For those not aware, Spy X Family is a spy comedy about a man, woman, and child who live in serial numbers filed off east germany in a cold war analogue. The thing is the family is a front. The man is a spy and needed a family for a cover and an infiltration. He agrees to a sham marriage with a government worker who is worried that her lack of a husband will make her suspicious, and cause the government to investigate her and reveal she's an assassin. The man also adopted a daughter as a way to get close to a government official by enrolling her in the same school as that man's children. She happens to be psychic. None of them know the other's secrets, except the daughter, she's psychic.

The main 'ship' of the series is the Husband Loid AKA Twilight and his fake wife Yor, as much of the comedy is them having to pretend to be a couple and catching feelings for each other. Another ship involves their adopted daughter, Anya, and the boy she is supposed to become friends with Damian. These two are six at most.

That explained, recently some amount of Damian/Anya shippers have decided that Loid/ Yor or "Twiyor" is a threat to their ship's... dominance or something? And have begun attacking it and Twiyor shippers. It's extremely minor, and it wouldn't even be worth noting if not for how bizarre the whole thing is.

When did it get Diseased lol. I remember when it got Infected simply because it was inevitable shippers/ex-shippers were going to talk about the shit they've seen, but I hadn't seen shippers get into a slap fight here before now.
It's been Diseased before; I knocked it back to Infected a long time ago, only to have to bump it up to Diseased again this week.

This post (archive) will surely not make people mad.

Nevermind.

Some more fun from the FF7 shipwar. For brief explanation, there is a sequence in the original game involving Tifa in Cloud's subconscious putting his mind back together and Tifa's the only person it makes narrative sense to be there doing so since she grew up next door to him and is the only person in the cast who's known him longer than a month and can convince him he's himself and not a lab grown clone.

Naturally, there is a push by shippers to replace her in this scene with Aerith.

There's also been requests to do the same for a later scene nearer the climax of the game, but I don't have a screencap of that right now.

So yesterday, during the Olympics, a member of the Japanese male gymnastics team, Daiki Hashimoto, has been showcased showing discomfort over an injury and being massaged(?) by what I believe was a trainer or a Japanese staff member. While this is normal during these sports events, even if the situation is quite serious, the footage caught the eye of a Fujoshi (archive).

Needless to say, while other Fujoshis followed suit, thirsting over the footage and redrawing it with both IRL and fictional yaoi ships, some people have also ostracized OP to the point of them restricting who gets to reply to their post. As a result, people have resorted to bash them in the Quote Retweets instead.

As an extra, for some reason this political lesbian decided to be smug and make it about "men being heated over being sexualized" and not about "people being heated over how a person in visible pain is being oogled over".

So yeah, just your average day in Fujo Twitter.

Holy shit, imagine being that gross

Hope she deletes

So random shit is coming fast and furious recently. First, a FF7 youtuber who also ships Cloud and Tifa was speculating on the possible compression of plots events in the third chapter of the FF7 remake trilogy, specifically a portion of the story that has nothing to do with the big ship war, and got harassed about a random art from Ever Crisis, a mobile game that's a mix of retellings of actual narrative events and random what ifs.

PassiveAggressiveShippingShitinanunrelatedpostpt02.png

These responses were immediate, and in response to each other, so, pathetic as it is it seems this was somehow coordinated to try and be some form of "gotcha."

The other inanity going on involves the Mocap actor for Cloud Strife, who has been playing the game and offering behind the scenes notes and general commentary. About a week or so ago, a youtuber named Icha released videos of his commentary on the Date Sequences, after double checking her translations with a bilingual native Japanese speaker. A group of CA shippers took umbrage, said the translations were wrong about the commentary on Cloud and Tifa's date, though wouldn't elaborate on how they were wrong, and said they were "working" on a correction behind the scenes. Earlier this week, the CA team's translation comes out and they begin acting very aggressive with the people who translated the streams in the first place, including, as mentioned, the native Japanese speaker who helped out in the first place. This backfired on them, as said native speaker was able to see various mistakes they'd made in grammar.

This isn't news in itself, so much, but it does let me segue into a topic I brought up long ago and that's making shit up about japan for the sake of the ship. It's been going on a very long time.

This is a fake interview from 2007. We know it's fake because the author was a weeaboo moron and thought WacDonalds was a real place. Despite this, it was still taken as true and evidence even after being raked over the coals for being obviously fake, only the site hosting it edited to change the first sentence to say "at McDonalds" instead of "At WacDonalds, the Japanese version of McDonald's" The rest of the "interview" is incredibly bad fanfic and reads, like it actually is, as a person talking to themself.

I might try and do a deep dive into some of the old very insane ship wank involving attempts to translate and "translate" Japanese documents. It's still happening mind, but the old stuff is just as lulzy.

Apologies for the double post, but the FF7 fandom has been going full speed recently.

So, this weekend was Otakon and there were multiple panels with the rebirth devs and voice cast. Of specific note is that Britt Baron, english VA for Tifa, was asked what her favorite aspect of Cloud and Tifa's relationship was. Now, what a Voice Actor says is not always the same as what the story is, but it's interesting how open S-E allows their VAs, English and Japanese to be about certain romances in their current tentpole.

Before I show the transcription and video, I would like to show how AerisGainsboro3 (who I think is an alt of longtime Crazy Clerith known as Cali but I could be wrong) reported this answer and how some people responded.

BrittonCT but the CA twisted it.png

BrittonCT but twisted 02.png

BrittonCT but twisted 03.png

BrittonCT but twisted 04.png

Of course this is the modern age and people do things like record and transcribe panels. So the actual full question and answer surfaced very very quickly.

BrittonCT.png

Here's a video just for good measure.

Also worth noting is that Britt was asked this question before, and her answer was basically unchanged since then.

BrittonCTearlier.png

It's worth noting she married her own childhood friend turned sweetheart.

Anyways, all of this is still just window dressing for the very bad attempt at spin that came out after the transcript. Another notable CA (who has been caught out lying on another occasion at least once) claimed to have stood in line at her signing booth to ask Britt a follow up question about her answer in the panel.

CAaskedBrittaquestion.png

Even assuming this interaction happened, it's hardly the win he thinks it is. The 'passionate' fans Britt has to be careful about aren't the CT ones who are very happy with how openly positive she has been about the duo, it's his own side.

Thank you all for allowing me to present this shipper's entirely unforced self own.

I think there's a lot of lulz to be had about the various fandom craziness about the FF7 love triangle over the years, and I'm working on a post to examine and explain some of the more hilarious bad faith takes out there, especially translator fails. Look forward to that eventually.

Funniest shit I saw about that was a bunch of retarded liberals claiming this was a Conservative plot to put evil ideas into radical feminism. Even the ones who admitted that political lesbianism went back into the 1960/70s, it was still a conservative terf plot.

If you can only look at an idea on your side and say it's bad because... insert loopy thinking into it being AKSHUALLY from your opponents... you will support horrors as long as you can justify it as being on the "good" side.
