The moment everybody starts addressing me as "sir" is when I felt old
I think one of the things I hate the most is what I missed out on. Back in my teens my family went though money issues, went from upper-middle class to barely middle class. It blows, missed most of the 6th and 7th gen of consoles, not so much because we didnt have the money but because I knew we had to save and didnt want the guilt of burning money on consoom shit. But given how shit gaming is now I hate that I missed out on that, playing/emulating those games its not the same, the graphics havent aged well, and I still feel buying those its a waste of money.
Similar with dating and partying: again, didnt want to put more pressure on the family finances so half my teens and a good chunk of my twenties were on frugal mode. Went to college and it was shit, same as highschool, the "college experience" from movies its so fake in retrospective, cant believe so many of us fell for that.
Then there's the health, tho I'm doing way better than many of my peers who already have issues like hypertension, thyroid problems, hair loss, etc.
One thing that I think prevents me from feeling old for real is that time seems to have stopped. Culture its just rehashes now, and bad ones to boot. Decades no longer have a "look", like what was the look of the 2010s? of the 2020s? I cant recall shit because those decades just rehash shit from the 80's, 90's and some of the 2000s.
No matter how hard I try I simply can't understand half the stuff Zoomers do.
Its the network effect, they want attention and to get it you have to do dumbshit and upload it for everyone to see
Most of them will never live it down
When I have to take the pill.
Barnacles, I hate the pill.
The antibaby pill? or the "without this I die" kind of pill?
It consistently pleases me how many non-younglings are on kf. Originally I attributed this to Chris getting on in age but it can't be it because plenty of you ok-Xers don't follow him. I guess we cater to a more mature audience than one might guess
Zoomers werent around for forums and dont like the format so of course they dont come here and stay on social media
- We're closer to 2040 than 1990.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK, you're right
- All the "hip" or "rebellious" subcultures I observed back in the day are old and lame now.
Got co-opted by corporations, overton window shifted so they can make a profit off it now
I have a low-key hatred and disdain for coomers, doomers and zoomers in general.
What I hate about doomers is that they are almost all zoomers still in fucking highschool, like how much of a wimpy loser you have to be to give up at that age?
I know a guy who is almost 39, both parents about to die any day now. He dropped out of college due to bad epilepsy, dont qualify to most gibs, seizures have probably fried some of his brain because he used to be super organized and now is a borderline hoarder who dont even remember what day it is.
Point is that guy is fucked, he can be a doomer. The little zoomer shit who cant get laid? he needs a beating.
If Marty McFly were to go back in time today, it'd be to 1990
I think a BTTF set in the early 90's wouldnt be the same because culture hasnt really changed that much, the shock from 1955 to 1985 was much bigger. They plain didnt have camcorders in 1955 but we record shit with out phones just like they did in 1985 with camcorders, its just happens to be more convenient. Computers in the 50s were huge fucking machines, by the mid 80s microcomputers were common. Plus the internet came out in the early 90's, it has changed but mostly due to broadband allowing the services we were told about back then. Like if you go to 1995 and show youtube or zoom to somebody they would be like "thats it? 25 years and all we got its video? where's the VR internet from that mnenomic movie?" but show the internet to someone in 1955 and it will blow their fucking mind that they can send instant mail to another continent.
Let alone the cultural shock: gays, porn, anime, that existed in the 90's it just wasnt mainstream, but not rare enough that you couldn't find it. In the 50's gays got arrested, porn got you arrested, and anime as we know it didnt even exist. The closest thing to hentai were underground tijuana bibles.
BTTF2 had flying cars, home fusion reactors, rejuvenation tech and hoverboards because they thought that just like in 1955 they barely had a few supersonic jets but by 1985 they had the shuttle and space stations then by 2015 all those things would be possible. But tech stagnated in many areas so it didnt happen. Sure computers and games didnt which is why you have smartphones and semi-selfdriving cars, but I still remember when they said VR would be everywhere by the mid to late 90's and only now we're getting some decent shit, and only because facebook its burning billions to corner the market.
Our future its pretty lame, sure if you went back in time and showed me a smartphone it would blow my mind for a while but then I would realize its just a PDA with internet so I can watch porn with it.
You know what the clearest sign you're getting old is? You're still using outdated forums instead of just of talking on instagram or whatsapp.
I was big on social media when it just started, got burnout and left.
Lots of people seem to be doing that, even some zoomers, mostly because social media its just a huge Pavlovian machine designed to make you addicted to it because pageviews=money.
Retro computing is popular now, maybe in a few years we will be "ironically" going back to dial-up BBS
I still remember when I got a voodoo3 and I was the coolest guy around for that.
Too bad I got rid of other shit like my Geforce 4, might be ewaste now but it could be worth something soon.
Even if we unite in mocking of trannies, we still come here to express ourselves properly. That's why forums have become ancient; nobody wants to formulate an opinion without self-doxxing, memes, or 140 characters giving them some kind of safety net as to why their grammar is dog shit.
I hate that some people straight up write in emojis now, its like being illiterate became cool.
The Xbox 360 still feels cool and modern to me, despite it coming out in my late teens.
I remember the hype but the graphics sure have aged. All the talk about HD but most of the games didnt even run at 720p.
Also reading an article about Greta chan saying she was born in 2003, I can remember a time before her birth and that never stops being weird
Whats weirder is that she's legal now and there are deepfakes of her.
Hell just seeing pictures of bands I grew up listening to where they all have wrinkles and dad bodies is soul crushing in a way, especially those pop-punk bands like Blink 182 and Green Day because they're still dressing the same way they did when they were 20.
What kills me is seeing Avril Lavigne, she looks like shit now.
I still play that game religiously. I've tried to optimize my mod loadout over the years to create the peak FNV experience that teenage me wishes he could have playing on the awful PS3 version back in the day.
You think thats bad? I had to play it in potato mode with an iGPU back then, and it would crash every 5 minutes.
Politics will be a wonderful shit show when my generation ages into it. Political attack ads will feature statements like "my political opponent is a furry who paid artists on the internet to draw Sonics stinky feet"
I think the chinese invented tiktok as a way to collect blackmail material both at home and abroad.
