Shit that reminds you that you’re getting old - Re: Fwd: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Fwd: Damn young’uns

When I was young.

Skin care? Fuck it
3 day bender around a 14 day shift? Fuck it.
Safety? Fuck it.
Injury? Fuck it.
Do something insanely stupid when putting 1 minutes planning or prep into it would eliminate any risk? Fuck it.

In my older age I have to actually plan to be retarded because the consequences of not doing so are much worse. This is apparently called wisdom.... I dont think I can claim that at all.

I saw an image of text messages back and forth where an ex would message their ex again. The conversation went:

> "I miss you, we should get some tacos"

< < < "Alright, meet you at the parking place of blockbusters"

> "Blockbusters isn't a thing anymore"

< < < "Exactly"

And then I realized that text messages back and forth of that nature itself isn't a thing anymore.

Just remembered this old bastard and when my local shop closed down. Remember going in on the final day and there were people in there ripping out the metal shelves and offering the wagies pennies for them and they were like "sure take whatever, we need to get rid of as much shit as we can". I swear it was only yesterday I was in there buying Oblivion and Stadium Arcadium.

Oh God Damn it my brain fondly remembers WoolWorths. The store in my area had this real dinky deli that was always full. It has some of the Best Icebox Cheese Cake ever.

Next year it'll be 10 years since the Dark Shadows movie came out, It seemingly ended on a sequel hook with Dr. Hoffman Being revived underwater as a vampire. For as much as Tim burton around that time (and today) gets dunked on I legit would have liked to see a sequel or some kinda continuation but it seems like that's never gonna happen.

If you haven’t yet check out the original series. It starts out as a pretty standard gothic soap opera but around the time Barnabas shows up it turns into a complete fever dream of a show. Good stuff

This came out in 2004 and now kids are currently in high school, while 20+ year olds are either finishing up college or trying to move out and start families.

I was in Urban Outfitters recently and the old-school ironically ugly clothes they were selling to teenagers at insanely high prices were things that I used to legitimately wear in the 00s. I've never felt so decrepit.

Stopped to get cigarettes. Get my ID out and the clerk waved it away, says “nah dude you’re good” and doesn’t check it. First time nobody’s bothered to check my ID when buying cigs or booze
Same thing happened when I ordered a shot last month.

Interesting one happened to me today, I was invited around to go see my family for Halloween and thought I'd get a mask or something to put on as it was mostly going to be kids there and apart from the wolfman I had no idea who most of them where supposed to be, there was this mirrored see-through plastic mask that made you look like something from Daft Punk, some kind of thing with a game brand slapped on it, and a bunch of others I didn't recognise.

I settled for Wolfman.

The Simpsons.

When the show began, the only member of the family I was older than was Maggie. Now? I am eseentially Homer and Marge's age, maybe a bit older and the show is still on the air!

Also, Marge's voice actor was roughly the same age I am now when the show began. She is now getting close to 80 and sounds it more and more.
I was slightly younger than Bart when the Simpsons premiered in 1989 (OK, December of 1988 if you want to get all technical about it), and now I'm older than Homer.

If I knew what cars would be like these days I would have treated my 70s era Buick Regal better.
My first car was a 1982 Buick Regal with a "water in the fuel tank" sensor that was a holdover from the 1970s gas crisis, when unscrupulous gas station owners would literally water that shit down.

The berlin wall came down 32 years ago.

All the various cash for clunkers schemes around the west killed off a lot of the older, more easily serviceable cars. Now the price of used cars is going through the roof

It was also 13 years ago.

That I remember when totino's pizza used to be circles and not the squares they are today and the shelfs aren't full of YuGiOh cards anymore like they used to be. Went to walmart, I remember a whole shelf dedicated to that game, now we only have 1-2 card packs max. I felt so sad ngl.

I don't know who any of these celebrities are anymore. *sigh*

a couple months ago I was listening to my cassettes of Ten by Pearl Jam and Flesh 7 Blood by Poison. I realised i bought them as a child 30 years ago. They still play great though. Which is why I don't really want to use them in that 30 year old GE player that seems to have a belt issue and needs the door realigned.
