We belong at this point to an older generation. We post on the Farms because we remember when the internet was serious business rather than a pervasive corporate hellnetwork that everybody dumps their entire lives into like the world’s biggest toilet bowl. I got an oil change today. The tech doing a safety check and taking down my information was in his late teens, maybe his early twenties. He asked me to turn on my car’s ignition so he could check the odometer. He then checked the dashboard and was amazed: The odometer was a physical counter, rather than a digital readout that only appears when the key is inserted and turned.
He had never seen that before.
