I'm curious if they're even forced to confront the fact that the deportations are popular or stuff like waving the Mexican flag around, or Mexico's insistence on mobilizing over remittances, were really bad optics.

It's ranged from cope takes about how protesting Vietnam and civil rights were unpopular in the day but still succeeded to railing against America as an irredeemable hive of fascism. It's not funny enough to be clipped so I hadn't bothered.

Mexia supermarket offers a lot of good insight in how to write post apocalypse fiction, since it shows how quickly supermarkets would go from "premium loot drop location" to "literal death zone".

IIRC it got so bad that there were places where the thick clouds of flies actually stopped and the corridors were deceptively clean. Not because the flies were for some reason giving it space or taking a break, and looking to the ground you could see some rats flopped over dead. These spots were empty of bugs and pests because the noxious fumes from the decomposing food got so bad they literally overwhelmed the air and displaced the regular earthly atmosphere out of the way, creating dead zones where there was little to no oxygen in the air and only anaerobic bacteria managed to stay alive.

The fucking doublethink on 2020 and 2024 is quite amazing. There is no metric by which 2024 is more sus than 2020. And 2000 is positively squeaky clean compared to 2020. But some still cope.

And I think that is the TL I was thinking of. It almost reads like a AI generated slop of mixing all the bad tropes about a 2ACW in the 1930s.
