I'm kind of surprised by the nuance of this thread.
I'm also thinking of writing a light-novel/web-novel of sorts and kind of expected an intense amount of cynicism on here but you guys continue to surprise me.
I wish "light novels" becoming a western thing wasn't such a cringe idea to people online. I think the main issue is it's going to come with a lot of autism and really REALLY shitty writing. But the idea of having a couple of illustrations to go with your book to me doesn't sound bad at all, and is something that used to be incorporated in a lot of old literature.
My main reason for wanting to make a "light novel" is just the fact I have a story I really want to tell, but I'm not good enough at artwork or have enough of a work ethic/free time to draw several comic issues. I'd love to make it as a show, but that seems nigh impossible at the moment without a budget or cast. It's not an isekai or anything, just a story I want to make that would work visually better than as pure literature. It's going to suck and be cringe at first but I hope someday it can gain traction.
