i like sludge and post rock too so recommendations from those genres is appreciated luv
The aforementioned Mogwai -
Rosetta
Isis
There was (is?) this pretty good Ukrainian band, Hungry for Hands. The Swedish indie label that released their first and possibly only record disappeared a good couple of years ago.
There's té, which has the added bonus of being a Japanese band if you happen to be a filthy weeb
I'm fond of this album, even if the singer looks like a typical antifa soyboy, and at least his performance has true passion:
Sleepmakeswaves
And let's not forget Fall of Efrafa

Detroit impossibly fuzzy lo-fi shoegaze emo

edit: somebody already posted pity sex but fuck its so great im leaving it

late career Title Fight has a lot of gaze in it
Pitty sex is so good. I was surprised to see someone post one of their songs.

How do you feel about slowcore? I'm hit-and-miss on most showgaze artists, but slowcore has a similar feel and the same wall of sound with vocals buried in the mix, just slowed down considerably. Check out Bluetile Lounge. Highly underrated and their two albums are top-tier.

Surely you've listened to Loveless. It's probably the most popular shoegaze album of all time.

Also check out LSD and the Search for God's self titled album. It's fantastic.
Strongly seconding the LSD and the Search for God recommendation, real shame they've only released two EPs so far.

Boris has already been posted, but they're an amazing band overall that has dipped into shoegaze a few times:

Can't speak for the rest of this band's output, but I really like this Catherine Wheel cover:

Some crushing wall of sound shoegaze:

Check out Ulrich Schnuass for something a little more electronic as well. Hes heavily influenced by shoegaze.
Hes also a member of Tangerine Dream.

Alcian Blue, Sweet Trip, Drop Nineteens, Cocteau Twins, No Joy and Brian Jonestown Massacre are worthy recommended shoegaze bands.

I had a Shoegaze phase back in the very late 2000s to where I've discovered a bunch of artists around that genre and later on that time, I also found out that one of my English teachers I had back in high school (senior year) was also into Shoegaze and other genres I was into as well. During a lunch break, I took the time to chat with him, and he recommended me a band that somehow he was close friends with called Narrow Head, and they are a band that are based in Dallas TX, which I thought was pretty cool. It was however one of the last conversations that I had with that specific teacher, until years later when I recently encountered him at my job. As for the band, I will recommend checking them out if you want. Stupid underrated if you ask me.

The Delgados' HATE is probably up your alley.

My favorites have been Medicine, MBV, Ride, The Lilys, Swervedriver, JAMC and Chapterhouse. I like a lot of adjacent stuff too like Grazhdanskaya Oborona and Les Rallizes Dénudés. Noise rock was more my thing when I was a younger. Lightning Bolt, No Age, Landed, stuff like that.

I went on a tour with this band before the singer died it's worth checking out if you like indie rock/ shoegaze:
