Shrek to be rebooted by Minions creator - AND THEY DONT STOP COMING AND THEY DONT STOP COMING AND THEY DONT STOP COMING AND THEY DONT STOP....

Well, damn. I was just thinking about how much I missed Shrek's face on every soda crate, cereal box, billboard, ink cartridge and roll of toilet paper.
I googled "shrek toilet paper" and found this

Honestly im not even surprised at this shit anymore

Who the fuck is this reboot even going to be for? This movie isn't really that old, and I'm pretty sure any parents of kids who might be interested in this can just show them their copy of the original they got when they were younger.
The primary demographics films/cartoons are aimed at these days are
a) literal ret@rds and babies (because they will swallow literally any product shoveled their way if it has enough flashing lights and bright colours)
b) the tumblr crowd (because they are the loudest shrillest voice on the internet and thus marketing people think that pandering to them will get the custom of every demographic they claim to represent)
c) obsessive nostalgia huffers (because so long as something has [INSERT BRAND HERE] stamped on it they will watch it)

If I were a betting bro I would say that a) is the most likely motivation given the history of the company behind minions. As much as I would love a "woke" Shrek where he has to foil the fiendish Lord Grumpfff as he tries to drain his swamp and exterminate the sassy black gingerbread persons, I doubt a children animation is going to be too heavy on the b), though I think there will be a hefty dose of c) nostalgia baiting in the finished product

We knew about a Shrek 5 coming in 2019 anyway so I don't think this is surprising. What I think happened is that the film experienced massive story problems as where can you go after Shrek 4 without re-treading old ground? They decided to make it explicit with a reboot to get around this and to nostalgia pander. DreamWorks animation have not exactly made a lot of money off their latest films (with the exception of Trolls) so they likely wanted a safe bet to make money. Add this in with likely already spending a bit on production to get to the point they're at, and bringing in this guy makes sense. He made a successful movie cheap, and that's what a business looks for. I can't say I'm pleased, I was looking forward to Fergus, Farkle, and Felicia being moody teenagers (because of how dumb it would be), but I really can't say I'm surprised. We should wait until the trailers drop before we pass any judgement

Fuck it. I'll say it. I don't care.

The first Despicable Me movie isn't even that good. You can tell where it's going from the very first minute. It's the same old story--evil grumpy curmudgeon finds a family and learns to love again. It's been done so many times now. Couple that with the introduction of the minions and Illumination's subpar animation and what do you have? A mediocre movie at best that people are soft on because it was comfortably predictable.
