Sid Meier's Civilization

"Pirate Republic" OH FUCK OFF, this is Civilization!

Glazing the Maori is hilarious after that meme about how fucking atrocious their response to losing their privileges in New Zealand is. What's their dance called, again? Why aren't they going with the Philippines?

Is the 4th Age really not gonna have its own round of Civs? That's lame as hell.

The consequences of divorcing a Civilization from it's land and people, there's no pre-made maps either, including Earth, for the same reason.
Really, there's no earth map? Are they fucking dense?

Edit: Those DLC civs are retarded. Ottomans are borderline acceptable, but only as a synonym for Turks.

Kupe and the Maori were already in Civ6.

Their abilities were that they started in the middle of the Ocean on Turn 1, could cross the ocean immediately and were conservationalists who couldn't profit from chopping natural resources.

The AI couldn't handle the water starts in 6. It made the civ completely uncompetitive. They would randomly explore the map, settling isolated cities in scattered places that they'd inevitably lose to Loyalty pressure from nearby civs.

A lot of players put the Maori on their AI ban list when the feature was introduced a few years in because their incompetence and forward settling simply ruined games.

The Civ fanatics forums is alleging the next dlc from data mined from the game.

The Chinese leak on CivFanatics prior to the announcement of the Leaders Pass free DLC for Civ6 ended up being verbatim correct.

The leaked list at the time essentially was 1:1 what new leaders were eventually announced.

At the time, there was some skepticism over its authenticity because it seemed implausible that any DLC would suddenly add so many Chinese leaders - Yongle, Wu Zetian, War variant Qing, etc.

Oh yeah, I played 6. Not enough to understand the meta scene beyond the wiki, though. They seemed like sloppy seconds from Polynesia in 5? (And frankly I have no idea if Polynesia was any more stable.)

I meant that the Maori have completely embarrassed themselves and New Zealand in the past couple years in real life, only for some officials to pretend they didn't. Odds are that Civ 7 Maori will at least be the least awful iteration of Polynesia, since it'll probably be an Exploration or Modern Civ and thus have no capacity to fuck the game up.

Not only that, but Kupe was an annoying-as-fuck leader as AI because his agenda meant he'd yell at you for 90% of the changes you can make to tiles while counterbalancing it is something you can only do later in the game.
Tries to avoid contributing to climate change by not removing features, planting Woods, and founding National Parks, and likes those who do the same. Dislikes civilizations that show little concern for the environment.
Due to this and his forward-settling tendencies, he denounces you and the other AI on a near-constant basis.

I don't know what the devs were trying to imply with Kupe's behavior in Civ 6 between what I just said and the fact that Kupe's aggressive stance once he bitches at you or you're at war being the haka.

I’ve thought for a while I may like Old World a lot more because time moving so fast annoys the hell out of me and I just like “gardening cities”
It's made by the guy that was in charge of Civ4, (not Cid who is a moron). Old World takes Civ4 and fixes some of the core issues. I suspect people don't like it at first because of stuff like pre-selected city sites, randomized tech choices, and the combat system is odd - but it all works together and makes for a great game. You really only need 1 DLC, the one about gods - all the others are non-essential. Another big plus in this game is the AI is brutal and not stupid like Civ - you really have to watch your back and plan for multiple scenarios.

I stopped playing Civ when 5 came out missing 2/3s of the systems 4 had and I saw they were going to sell the missing stuff as DLC.

Because of Civ 1 and 2, I may still associate certain colors with certain nations -- and lack thereof -- to this day for some reason.
Oh yeah and because of that World War 1979 scenario*, I may associate certain colors with current "geopolotics" now.

whites: Soviets or Russians
greens: Neutrals (Israel, Japan, etc. -- not the Neutrals from Futurama)
blue-y: European Union (current & former)
yellow: Middle Eastern (the Muslim world)
cyan-y: America, also South Korea somehow
orange: China & also North Korea somewhow
violet: India

* (it comes with either the Scenarios or Fantastic Worlds addon)

The pirates were actually a pretty big deal for a couple decades, so I'm more confused about Iceland's inclusion since that place's only relevance is as a military base for actual nations.

Old World works fine as a civ game, but it's more like a babby's first Crusader Kings game. Imprison your wife because she won't bear you sons, groom your son into the ultimate assassin from birth, get him to assassinate that one Aunt that keeps causing trouble or the religious head that dislikes you for no reason, marry a hot Celtic barbarian woman and ruin your bloodline... The stories you make are more fun than the 4X gameplay IMO.

New roadmap released:

It is absurd what passes as a "release-worthy" game these days:
Holy city conversion and custom names for cities taking a month after release to be implemented?
One more turn, a signature phrase of the series and something they regularly used in marketing this game game won't be available until April.
:lunacy:

I love how hard they try to replace all the leaders with women and/or niggers for having even the most minor impact, and present them as standing on even ground with some of the most influential leaders in human history. Really makes the new game feel historical.
They basically turned all real leaders into faggy caricatures. I watched the animations of Caesar and Frederick and they act like silly faggots. Meanwhile the game takes Harriet Tubman way WAY too seriously.

So in other words, it's a subtle "white men bad" thing?

And of course that "woke" C7 dev team takes Tubman way too seriously: SJWs worship "marginalized groups", and Tubman was of at least two of them: blacks "Blacks" and women.

There's only so many ways you can shake up the gameplay before you innevitably have to start breaking shit appart and putting it back toogether again to justify new releases.

Civ should have followed the Stellaris route and went full balls to the walls on the narrative political opera route. The reason stellaris can charge 60$ for 3 portraits and a +10% research speed bonus per genocide commited is because people are fine with paying money for narrative expansions.

Mechanically stellaris has been pretty stagnant the past 10 years, but the devs have been pretty brilliant about recontextualizing existing mechanics into new narrative beats.

Fuck, people are hyped to pay paradox money to give them the third reskin of the player crisis system which is functionally just a bunch of UI prompts and a number going up.

Civ6 was at its most intresting with the illuminati zombie apocalypse vampire society dlcs all installed for this reason.

Crusader kings and europa universalis already has the extremely autistic history buff audience captured and civ ain't never capturing that but there's an open slot on the market for a historical fantasy 4x game.

Civ had dropped all pretence of being realistic with prehistoric washington and modern day alexander.

Fuck it, go all out, you know?
