I remained extremely disconnected from this. Im a huge old school Silent Hill fan, as Im sure most of us here are and I tend to stand on the camp that Silent Hill as we knew ended when Team Silent was no more. We still had what I guess were some okay ish entries that Im sure some here might even have a soft spot for even if I think these were western devs trying hard to replicate something only a japanese team was able to pull off.
To return what I said in the beginning tho, I found the idea of a remake of SH2 being extremely unnecessary at the best of times. I legit think a proper PC port of the first four games would be preferable and even if you want to throw the argument Konami lost the source codes, modders are still able to get these games running comfortably on modern machinery so you cant say that a creative dev team couldnt pull something off. I looked at the trailer and immediately saw they lost the whole point of the classic bathroom mirror scene, with James being far more visually sad, even weeping instead of the more reserved and subtle behavior of the original. That was the moment I saw this had no hope and was ready to give them my full apathy.
Then this happened.
Well, they did it. They did the equivalent of throwing fucking soup at the Mona Liza and try to immediately preach as if they think Im going to listen to whatever they want to say and not immediately start beating them to death with a pipe.
They took one of the most iconic and tragic SH characters, one with what is one of the most heart wrenching final scenes in all of gaming, and converted her into what these CULTURAL VANDELS consider appropriate for "modern audiences"...
*rubs eyes in deep frustration* Part of me shouldnt care. Its just pixels and the original is always there but at the same time, should I stand by when the Mona Liza is splashed with soup because the original still exists else where? I mean, where do we draw the line? Because I feel like any lines we could have drawn, they have crossed a loooong ass time ago.
This whole thing resparked my deep hatred for Konami, with the added bonus of my now deeper hatred for modern gaming and its sewage slop making dev teams who arent worth a SINGLE creative thought of the titans that came before them that they want to make you believe they are superior to...
Fuck Bloober team, fuck Konami and fuck this whole god damn gaming landscape.
Rate me MATI, I dont care, I had to get this out of my chest.
Out of all the milquetoast footage we've seen, the most interesting tidbit from the reveals that I noticed was the fact that James' reflection in the car window is actually pyramid head. It's a blink and you'll miss it moment, but the reflection definitely isn't James'.
I have no idea where they're going with that, since James himself isn't revealed to be pyramid head, it's just his own personal boogieman, but that's the kind of weird subtle thing that fits perfectly with SH.
Maybe they looked at that one Homecoming ending and are running with that.

Are we really going to start to look back fondly at these two now?
