I still think the Wii Shater Memories Silent Hill game was the worst. It's the one people forget exist in timeline.
Nah its homecoming, homecoming is actively painful to play its way too long, nothing happens since the combat system is designed around 1 on 1 fights and they're really bad at building up suspense so you walk for 3 minutes then do a fight with a monster that either gets stun locked to death for a minute or one that blocks and dodges at random for 2 minutes then 3 more minutes of walking. The only thing remotely good is the bosses which also happens to be some of the best theming/designs in the game.

At least with shattered memories you can run through the game in about an hour.
 
They covered up the cleavage of the nurse enemies which are supposed to be twisted manifestations of sexual desire and trauma.

Believe me I'm well aware of what Blooper's agenda is with this game, it's very very obvious.
I actually think they went too far in the opposite direction, they're not nearly as grody and corpse-like as they should be.

Bloober even fucking up confusing, necrophilic sexual underpinnings of the nurse monsters. Sad!

Something else I noticed and I think was pointed out by some others is that the general light levels/filters feels off too. It's obviously leaning too hard into the Homecoming orange hues that accentuate the yellows and rust colours in the environments (because rusty metal is scary!) but at the same time everything is too bright and looks too clear and obvious.

Too early to say until we get the final product but something that the series has always embraced (for the most part) is the dread/horror of what's not seen. When your character has full vision to look around and the environments are clear and bright enough to see everywhere you lose a significant portion of potential terror so you need to lean into things being darker and more obfuscated by anything you can versus recreating running around the RPD, which is what I'm seeing so far.

I still get nervous at 2 in the hospital because of how dark it is, and 3's commercial building is great for that too. Compare those areas for example with what we've seen so far and it's kind of bizarre that they've cranked the brightness in areas so much (an issue for TVs that they're working around maybe?). But it makes sense when you've hired people who would not understand the word subtlety even if it was translated into Polish.
 
I'm late on all of this. I knew it was being made but didn't follow anything about it. I haven't liked a lot of modern game remakes but I'm not opposed to them in theory, most just suck. and this one from the little bit I've seen the last few days is fucking egregious. I've never once thought games should stay in the ps1/ps2 era style for horror like a lot of retarded young people who thinks something old=scary. but this is maybe the biggest example of it just doesn't fucking translate all. mainly for me it's probably the combat, doing more action based combat absolutely changes the entire look and feel of the game, I knew when they announced this they were specifically trying to rip off the REmakes of the last few years but I didn't assume they would turn this into a full on action game. this looks like SHIT.

the coolest thing about SH has always been how effective those first games are of making you feel fucked up just playing them. they really do feel sort of dreamlike. a video game has never scared me but silent hill (2 particularly) probably came the closest when I was a kid. when I replayed it older, did it again but more because of how fucked up the implications of all of it is, and actually thinking about what the game, and the enemies and stuff are even about in the first place. just the tone of everything I have seen in these trailers that have come out seem to entirely have missed the point on the whole experience, from the graphics, the models, the performances of the characters, down to the gameplay itself.

I know I'm probably just regurgitating previously said things from the thread, I just wanted to complain about it. I'm not even really a huge die-hard silent hill fan, but this might be imo the biggest they entirely missed the point of the original game's experience I've seen from a remake like this, and that's from some trailers.

I don't know how I feel about this. Like staying to original is a good thing, but original crator wanting to change things doesn't inherently mean bad either. Depending on what the things are.
Please be advised that Japan is a very conflict-averse culture, and Japanese developers have been known to lie for the sake of not "fanning flames" if you will.

It still annoys me that zoomers can't comprehend tank controls and the classic horror game camera angles, so retarded devs shit out these remakes for "modern audiences" with the boring Alan Wake 2 camera angle. I know someone will just make a mod that fixes that though when the remake comes to PC.

I think the most terrifying Silent Hill moment for me was watching the Silent Hill 4 trailer and the Haunted House section of Silent Hill 3, the baby monster standing on its hands and pointing at you was unnerving

The extended trailer for SH4 is unironically one of my favourite pieces of vidya media ever. I wish there was an updated HD version. Just incredibly well made and captures the mood of the game perfectly. SH4 had a bunch of problems but it is still miles above the shit that came after it.

But then you see the reskin which "looks" with buttocks (looked it up, its called The Bottom) , and it is never anything serious again.

Silent Hill 4 has always been my favorite to actually play. It doesn't hold up anywhere near as much as the first 3 but I was the perfect age to play through it when it was pretty new and so that game has a special place in my heart. when I went through them all again as an older teenager and then once more as an adult I could see the actual flaws with the game clearly after hearing about them forever, and it made me retroactively more disappointed in what followed it than I had been.

The one thing I can gurantee you that they will fuck up is the puzzles. Remember, it's made for "modern audiences" so some fat western tranny dev at bloober will look at something like the clock puzzle and think that it's too hard because TikTok zoomers can't read clocks that aren't digital.

Now imagine if they tried to remake the first game. Said "modern audience" would shit bricks trying to figure out shit like this because you know they would ruin that one too:
