Silent Hill

And the early 2000s cgi actually works to the game's benefit, which is a rarity. I don't think it looks awkward, it looks purposefully designed to invoke a certain feeling of strangeness or dark foreboding. Perfect wallpaper material.

Definitely. I've only played SH1-4 somewhat recently and the CGI still struck me visually. Honestly if I were to criticize SH3 in particular for anything, its I really missed his CGI cutscenes. They were always a visual treat.

I want to share a nice story about Silent Hill 2 since there is a lot of doom and gloom in the community due to the remake.

A few months ago I pushed my cousin to play finally play Silent Hill 2 EE (his first one). Ever Friday after work I would come over and we would get some beer and I'll watch him play through the game. He knew nothing about the game other then Pyramid Head (he is also a massive pussy when it comes to horror).

And my god, it was so perfect to see his reaction to this game. His reaction to the moth room, Pyramid Head's introduction, Angela, Eddie, Maria, Mary and the twist that James killed her (which he was back and forth speculating on), the symbolism, Mary's Letter the end. All of it was such a beautiful thing to see a genuine reaction to one of the best games of all time, to the point its now one of his favorites of all time too (and he's also shitting on the remake because he understands how bad the changes are :story:)

So I urge you, if you have a friend that isn't a retard and likes good videogames (and hasn't been spoiled), try and get them to play in person with you, I found it an incredibly special to watch.

Even if I didn't know anything about SH2 this is a shit trailer. I still can't believe this is official, it feels like something ad hoc. You really cannot understate how a good trailer sells you on a game until you see something like this.

Kojimbo knew this and actually gave a shit from an artistic standpoint.

I think combat in a serious survival horror game can work without turning it into an action game.

I thought Evil Within 2 handled it pretty well where combat was a focus but even basic enemies were so deadly and tanky that running or stealth was almost always the better option.

I have basically zero confidence that Blooper will be strike the right balance and pull this off.

It's Youtube fan remake-quality: You occasionally see retarded hobbyists releasing "Ocarina of Time REMADE IN UNREAL ENGINE Trailer #2"; where they try to craft a cinematic gameplay trailer around the three or four rooms they've recreated, ostensibly for the sake of generating community interest in their project. It serves only to put themselves on the radar of the IP holder, who responds with a C&D.

Meanwhile, the direction of the fan remake trailer, itself, is from a purely superficial place of including shots which show off the new engine, upscaled textures, etc. - It's never for the sake of teasing the gameplay experience; because these fan remakes prioritize congratulating themselves for the moxie of the amateur attempt in the short term, rather than any long term goal to execute the overall project faithfully.

The only difference is that the Silent Hill 2 remake is officially sanctioned and; therefore, allowed to give people the same, underwhelming experience they could expect to find in any amateur remake of an old video game in a modern engine.

Even if Konami understood that the only reason the game worked was because a few talented people contributed some inspired ideas in the course of realizing it the first time around, they still wouldn't give a fuck; because the ambition is to counterfeit their own legacy product in a shortsighted manner: For whatever reason, Konami executives have been very consistent in reacting to the success of artist-driven franchises such as Silent Hill and Metal Gear by removing the creative element, and insisting that they can reproduce the product synthetically. And, no matter what the general reaction to this remake is going to be, a Konami exec will point to it and assert, "See? I told you no one cares about Silent Hill. Cancel that revival of the Silent Hills project - Tell Kojima that the remake of 2 demonstrated that no one wants another Silent Hill, but that we'd be willing to attach his name to the Metal Gear project we have a Canadian team working on involving multiverse Snakes traveling through time to fight in locations from previous installments."

I think SH1 has some really excellent gameplay and combat for the era and even better than the immediate sequels as well.

I imagine if Keiichiro Toyama stuck around SH2 would play more like Siren. Always viewed Siren as a evolution of sorts to SH1 much in the same way Fatal Fury is probably what Street Fighter 2 would of been like if Takashi Nishiyama didn't leave Capcom.

3 had fmv cutscenes, so did 4 btw.

Is it me or did they make Angela thinner closer to her original design in the new trailer? They avoid any direct shots of her face in the story trailer but she looks skinnier from what little I could see.
How about she never was fat and it all was made up by dumb spergs who only saw the picture of her face?

Technically sure. But they were done in-engine since team silent wanted to show their animation talents and then as prerecorded vids, they had more real time cutscenes than 1 or 2 but 2 was the beginning (Angela stairway, the truth besides the videotape, etc.) Unless you mean the Fukuro usagi whatever tech demo art thing done for it with Robbies. But those were also in-engine it seems.

This is absolutely what will happen, and often does happen to other still dead franchises... It's actually been done to SH twice before. "See, no one bought the half-finished SH4. No one cares about Silent Hill, disband Team Silent and give the series to gaijin." Then, "See, no one bought the west's bad SH2 clone and discount dungeon crawler. No one cares about Silent Hill anymore, mothball this whole bitch for a decade and make pachinko slots."

I still ain't buying "Silent Hill 2" as told by a Team called Blooper.

I hope this time they will get the message and stop trying to milk the franchise. I very much want them to sit on the IP and do nothing with it. Silent Hill had its resolution, do something different with the survival horror genre for gods sake.
The number of series this applies to is horrifying, maybe a second video game crash wouldn't be so bad if it got dirty investors out of the scene.

The scene where Eddie puts the gun to his head, with the deranged expression that the original perfectly delivered, compared to the remake one, made me woeful.

I am sorry, and I know this is late, but the bottom on looks like the smiling friends are gonna walk into the room at any moment.
