I still get the feeling that the short message studio could have did a better remake looking at the footage. This game was a stepping stone for their careers, nothing more.
Short Message is quite awful - a combination of Slender-style "collect X items while running from a monster" and PT's going through the same environment that changes after each reset. And the story is about people being mean on social media.
If you want a "so bad it's funny at times" Silent Hill, watch Silent Hill Ascension (I don't know if you can still "play" it but I saw "playthroughs" on youtube).

It manages to have less gameplay than PT which had puzzles. So boring. I was eager when I saw a moving trashbag in a janitor closet only to realize it never talks. Cheap ripoff. No secrets like pt had. Terrible walking sim tech demo, looks worse and plays worse than pt somehow. But if you look at their interviews they initially wanted to work on demakes and ports, but Bloober caught Konamis eye so they stripped away sh2 from them and forced them to work on this bullshit instead. Idk, their rendition of the apartments looked alright but it was too pre-alpha and bright to tell if it would have been good. What makes me curious though is their Jamss model that keeps his classic jacket patches, it'll never be released though.

Haven't played it, but apparently she was also locked in a closet and starved for days and had to watch her brother die? Or something? I don't know, it's just what I've seen some Redditors offer as a counterargument, for whatever the fuck that's worth.

They had an abusive mother who was locking them in a closet when she was inviting candidates for a new dad. Brother died, mom tried to hide his body, main character informed the cops.

Synth is an unimaginative twat who appeals to the lowest common denominator of rightoid idiots with his oh-so-detached attitude and monotonous droning and by using that picture of ryan gosling as his av to signify how unaffected and cool he is. Transparent as fuck midwit who has the most pedestrian tastes imaginable that equally dumb people latch onto because it validates their preconceived notions. If you negrate me you're only proving my point and I'd bet dollars to doughnuts you enjoy efap.
You had me going there, until that last sentence. "Here's a dumb opinion, but if you call it dumb you're proving me right." It's a shame because I agreed with you unironically to that point.

I think it's simply a problem with tying horror a horror franchise to the concept of this small unassuming town hosting dark supernatural events.
I think they should've gone another way with it, Make it an anthology with some common elements. You could have your cult stuff of SH1 and 3, and your purgatory stuff of SH2. Even the dungeon crawls of SH Book of Memories could work.

I wish Project Zero would shit out the trilogy onto modern consoles.
I don't. The last one was censored, and I don't trust current year localizers to leave them alone.

I think that's SH2R's biggest issue is that it just is there. It just exists.
I'd go even further and say that a milquetoast Silent Hill game IS a bad Silent Hill game. Something like REmake is worthy of remembrance because it surpasses the original. At its "best", SH2 demake is a cause of division, it isn't "surpassing" anything. It's the ubisoft tower climb of 2024 horror gaming.
They tried to go back to the cult in Homecoming but they did it poorly and it's a memberberry more than anything, cult's entire agenda is gone and they are just generic bad guys.
It's shocking just how bugman Homecoming is with all the hollyjew references. The stereotypical nigger cop, the crazy town mayor, the scenes ripped straight from hostle and saw, and the absolute milking of that baguette-banger's movie with buff pyramid head etc.

Silent Hill 2 remake update v1.04 reduced Maria's head by 30% and added that 30% to her chest.

Silent Hill 2 Remake Releases Update 1.04

He's making a movie based on Silent Hill 2 and it's gonna be a doozy.
James is a bum, Maria has FAS, Laura is a generic-horror-movie-creepy-bug-eyed-girl, Eddie doesn't get a promo pic and Angela doesn't get to exist at all.
Just what the brand needs!!

Maybe the upper echelon TS vets knew this was going to happen so they got out when the getting was good (I'm sure by 2004 they already knew about Konami's plans to whore out the series to Hollyjew). If you really think about it in a meta-sense, in terms of Actually pushing the horror genre forward, what could the Silent Hill brand reasonably do from here? SH1 shook up the horror scene and basically spawned psychological horror in gaming. SH2 took the concept from the first game and expanded it dimensionally by making it about the very character you were playing as. It was a logical and necessary elevation of the first game's core concepts. But where do you go from there without devolving into what SH inevitably devolved into? My guess is making the horror directly related to the player at home, which you could argue Shattered Memories clumsily/shittily attempted to do. For it to really work though, I believe an advancement in technology or VR is needed, which is a long ways off. How can you actually ADVANCE the SH formula?

here is the actors face they used. blooper team is very accurate when they modeled her face in the game.

And here is Monica Taylor Horgan, the original actress behind Maria/Mary. Team Silent had a knack for beauty. Something lost upon Polish fag devs. Give me authenticity over professional voice acting any day. Combine it with Takayoshi Sato and you have excellence in a ps2 game. 1000296487.jpg

picked up the latest updates, the fix shit mod over at nexus and the game runs like a glove. hell i turned on RT on my 6700xt and the game hasnt shit to death so far. new game+ here we go
There isn't even a ranking system anymore or bugspray which diminishes the value of a replay vs the original. Codes aren't randomized anymore I heard, the original has more depth to it that factors into replays. Until they update it to add those in I wouldn't recommend it. Then again I knew a lot of nice mechanics wouldn't come back. God forbid they remake the other games lol. Two of the additional endings were just extensions, they really should have just extended the cult ending and at least see James pick Mary off the boat and place her in the church's altar with the last things you see being the items you collected being placed like how their use is described in Born From A Wish. Predictably RE2 remake has more replay value.
