Wow, Silent Hill f was refused classification in Australia. I thought maybe that warning they put on the game's storefront was just them being overly cautious because of how sensitive westerners have become, but it seems that there really is some contentious content in the game.

No, it's primarily being developed by a smaller studio in collaboration with Konami. Which is a pretty common practice now, the usage of satellite studios. It's a smaller team with something to prove much like the original Team Silent, up until now they've been stuck making the multiplayer component to the Resident Evil games. (ReVerse was dogshit but Resistance was surprisingly well done.)

Just go play SIREN 1 and 2 if you want a proper successor to Silent Hill by the original director, it has a far more interesting cult and weird story that loops.

And its being developed by a dogshit studio responsible for re multiplayer tie ins nobody played, and the dead rising demake. A chink studio. There is no selling point at all here other than it being a derivative use of the brand name to appeal to weeaboos and loyal whale IP fan (slaves).

Just go play SIREN 1 and 2 if you want a proper successor to Silent Hill by the original director, it has a far more interesting cult and weird story that loops.

Or go play Fatal Frame 3. As it deals with pyschological trauma, and even delves into survivor's guilt. It's a swan song of PS2 horror, and has largely flown under the radar.

To be honest, if Silent Hill is "moving" to Japan, I'd actually like to see a "western" Fatal Frame game. Maybe in Salem or somewhere Lovecraftian.

I doubt it'll ever be as good as it was, so much of what made it great was a time and place thing. But it would be nice if it could still exist and not be embarrassing like everything after The Room. I think the concept still has wheels but they need to find strong creative minds to take the reigns, people who have actual ideas for it and not just retelling SH2 for the millionth time. The guy they have writing it seems like the sort with those VNs he did, so that's good. It's just a question of what things look like for Silent Hill g, or whatever, if he stays on or if someone else needs to come in next.

I also think it would be better to avoid Japan as a setting after this. I think a lot of what made the games endearing and interesting is seeing another culture through that lens. The historical setting is still nice though.
