At this point its standard for the series.
not at this point, always, in SH1 there were multiple endings you couldn't get the first playthrough.

The normal ending is a casual filter red-herring like I said before. it's SH1's "Harry lying dead in his jeep" misdirection.

Also, I do not believe that the fox man is evil or does what he does to gain power. I think he's genuinely in love with Hinako, as he was destined to be by virtue of him being the fox god and Hinako having that non ABO blood type. Even in the "Fox wets its tail" ending where Hinako leaves him to be with her childhood bff who literally roofies her with psychoactive addictive hallucinogens and who showed up at their wedding ceremony and clocked him in the back of the head with a baseball bat, he just lets her leave because he understands that she doesn't love him back.
Fox Mask is not the God, he's a human descendent of him, he has a real world analog that Hinako is getting married to as of the events in "true world" present.
and if the game is to be believed, the Fox god is real, and this guy really is his descendent, and the entire point of the game from the Supernatural is the Fox God has arranged things so HInako, who is special, marries into his lineage.

i see this as a new low for the series and konami. the previous entries (post SH4) were at least pretending, or were hopelessly trying to capture at least something that made this games worthy of being part of the SH franchise (they failed every time).
i watched my friend play through the game 2 times. we saw 2 different endings. they literally belong in an anime, both in terms of writing and what's happening on screen. at least it made for a good laugh.
he also showed me some very obviously paid reviews on steam with 0.9 hours of playtime saying stuff like "THIS IS IT, WE ARE SO BACK". and even if you look now the reviews are standing at very positive, and i find that depressing. i guess there really is only a minority of people in the "fanbase" that even remember or cherish the first four games, making it possible for this game to reach a very positive overall score. at this point the franchise has more bad than good entries so i guess it's whatever.

That's all a lot of Japanese creators know nowadays, as I have relentlessly pointed out whenever a sequel or remake or spiritual successor of some hit game comes out and this exact thing comes up.

while physically true I think being tortured and burned so that a Cult's "Idea of God" gets squeezed into a child's womb utilizing the spiritual power of the land is certainly akin to Rape.
It's not even mind rape. You gonna claim Heather was raped too?

To quote Miyazaki and admittedly take him out of context, he was talking about character design:
“Almost all Japanese animation is produced with hardly any basis taken from observing real people, you know. It’s produced by humans who can’t stand looking at other humans. And that’s why the industry is full of otaku!”

I'm of the opposite mind, While it certainly doesn't have the visuals of any of the 4 OG Silent HIlls, and it also isn't trying to ape the dumb things the post 4 games were doing (the gay, THE TOWN IS PURGATORY thing they all stuck to) I find the themes, visuals and story telling here to be pretty good on its own.

Is it a Silent HIll game? no, but it is a decent psychological horror and had decent way of unveiling the story its trying to tell. for SIlent HIll proper, there's really not much that can be done, the franchise tied itself up in neat bow with 3 and "The Room" ages ago, all the games that came after were horrific Homunculus proto-clones, this one at least dispenses with even trying to be that, and did something completely different and is instead a similar vein of "unreality" as its one connecting thematic string

I have no idea on the "its Anime" thing, this shit is just pure Japanese Mythos pretty accurately depicted intermeshed with some serious inability to grow up plotline

I bet if you asked any women you know if the idea of being implanted with a horrific God-Demon directly into your womb after burning you alive (but you can't die) sounds like Rape, and I bet you they would agree.
its way more visceral than just Penis in Vagina rape lol, that shit is TURBO rape, they raped that girls SOUL, that child carried on into her fucking REINCARNATION

Also he is possessed by the Fox god.
Alessa wasn't raped. She was in the movie, but they burned her as a witch, they weren't trying to birth god.
Ok, artificially inseminated. Don't you remember how her mother was raving about her daughters womb to birth God and the kerfuffle happened during the ritual and even Heather was still carrying the foetus?

She was a psychic kid and the cult had "god semen" for some reason. Allegedly there was no torture, just Alessa "blowing up" from the artificial insemination and causing the boiler explosion, hence the burns and the nightmare.

Funny enough, when I wrote that post I was thinking about how Kazuma Kaneko designed the Shin Megami Tensei version of Metatron based off of the armor Mordred wore in the 1981 movie Excalibur.

You are very unlikely to see that kind of wide-ranging inspiration nowadays.

the Burns were intentional, Dhalia did it on purpose, for whatever reason, the ritual they came up with required immense suffering to be put on the Holy Mother.

However, it really just gave Alessa the will to use the power given to her to fuck it all up, namely by splitting her soul, and her rampant powers causing the reality shifts ones "Cheryl" shows back up.

The burns were an accident, boiler explosion from stress. Origins is not canon.
I will die on that hill (heh).
The cult members we see in 1 are basically shitting their pants about the fuckup while putting on a serious face. Well it was only Dahlia, Kaufman is trying to leg it with cash and Lisa is too drugged up.
Only in 3 we get the "torture" idea but that comes from the twisted mind of Claudia who would be like 30-ish at the time I think, given she was Alessa's friend in school. Claudia inflicts intentional pain and torment on Heather.
Dahlia was just a religious bible thumping nut job of an extra bonkers variety, she would not risk damaging the vessel to birth god, that is a very stupid thing to do.

This has nothing to do with the current argument going on, but I wanted to put in my two cents that I don't like how every valid criticism on the Steam review page is getting spammed with clown reacts or hyper-consoomers defending the new hot steaming pile of shit.
I was excited for this game, and then playing it, I am beyond disappointed. The game is actually boring. It ain't Silent Hill.

Also fuck you devs I like Inari Okami.

Is it a Silent HIll game? no,
yes, that was the point of my entire post. therefore it should not be called silent hill. just based on that i think it should be lambasted and/or ignored because this should not be done, it should not be the standard. it has to stop.
I have no idea on the "its Anime" thing, this shit is just pure Japanese Mythos pretty accurately depicted intermeshed with some serious inability to grow up plotline
i specifically said that it's the writing and what is going on visually, im not talking about the plot. the ending bossfights are literally like anime showdowns. and the post-fight ending scenes have characters acting exactly like anime characters would. i thought you played the game

a different ending has an elden ring bossfight in an elden ring arena as someone before me already mentioned. its extremely uncanny for this to be in a game called silent hill.
i think it's very mediocre as a standalone game as well, with only a few interesting things that caught my eye, but this is a silent hill thread so i don't want to talk about that.

This is more Silent Hill than the Bloober remake of 2. I really enjoyed 2 but that was a Hollywood movie production through and through.
One thing that I like that came from it is that Bloober started making actual games, I enjoyed Cronos.
