I am also new here also after lurking for about a year, welcome.
What I want to know is why so many of these "artist" have an "art style" that is just utter shit and unappealing to look at. The vast majority ignore anatomy by making some physical features exaggerated in size, often with sloppy line work and questionable color choices.

I guess part of it is their desire to "stand out" from the rest of the decently visually appealing to greatly visually appealing by instead choosing to make something atrocious, but then they get lost in their own self-made mess of everyone having shit tier art and no one standing out either.

The other part of it is that making things visually appealing takes effort and patience. And I would assume that a good chunk of these people genuinely do not have interest in art itself outside of using it to farm clout & asspats & attention from others-- drawing for the algorithm, leading to their art looking soulless and ingenuine, because they didn't even like it in the first place. Leading to no effort, making excuses for said lack of effort, even regressing in some cases because they try to appeal to everyone at once & still end up being cannibalized by their own kind in the Oppression Olympics + perma-cancelled cancel culture.

Oh, and you gotta justify why all your art looks like shit, apparently. Once in a blue moon a piece does comes up that actually looks decent. Obviously with issues, but not enough to want to make me click off the page.
Here's an example of that:
The line work is questionable in some areas, the colors in some spots go over the line work, and her right eye is fucked up, but at least I can look at it for more than ten seconds.

In a lot of cases it is to "defy beauty standards" They want to make stuff like stretch marks, scars and other imperfections look beautiful, but they actually achieve the exact opposite effect.
For the lines, I imagine they are mostly lazy, and they try to imitate sketchy styles that actually look really nice but these people miss the mark by a long shot.
I think a reason for ugly colors and anatomy is, again, to defy beauty standards, and also because they get mad when people corrects them or they see tutorials that show what they do is wrong or not ideal and they take it as a personal attack. I often see in tutorials people commenting things like "don't tell me what to do" or "all styles are valid!/Its my art style!"

Oh and god forbid you dare mention any difference between male and female anatomy, that really is makes them go apeshit.

When you build a community that can't handle criticism and insist that you can do whatever you want ("cringe culture is dead uwu"), you get people who make shitty art and refuse to improve because it's mean if you tell them to.
