The better question is why must they make characters so god dame ugly.

Roxy Lalonde. How do you make a beautiful blond so unrecognizable?

Jesus Christ, couldn't they at least put the cat icon on her somewhere? Or draw the swirl in her hair? Or give her black lipstick? Pretty much the only thing they got right were the black nylons.

She literally has zero in common with the original design.

But I got a worse one for you, OP:

Nobody has the correct haircut, except Roxy. Everybody is trans and black! All the boys have pierced ears and painted nails.

Now here are the canon designs, in order, along with a little bit of sperging.

Symmetrical haircut that goes down to her neck turns into... pink Ellen DeGeneres hair. Well, at least they remembered her headband.

I suppose of all the characters to make fat, Rose wouldn't make zero sense, given that most of what she spends her time doing is knitting, reading, and using the computer. But nothing about her really indicates that she's nonwhite.

So, he's got some sort of like... mop that's maybe slicked back or parted to the side. Put that in the Tumblr machine and we get... curly Macklemore hair. Y'know, for a guy Tumblr hates as much as Macklemore, they sure do like stealing his hair style.

The slim body and scars at least makes sense, given his upbringing. They of course made Dave trans, even though nothing about him indicates his trans, and he talks and acts kind of homophobic at the beginning of the story. I guess I understand making him black because rap, but before SJWs complained about race in the story, the joke was that he was a white kid who raps.

We've already seen Roxy's design, kind of. They don't completely annihilate her design. Like with Dave, nothing indicates that she's trans. Why would somebody who's never physically encountered another human being in her life feel pressure to present a certain way?

Man, why did they have to bastardize you the most? Of course, Dirk's design is a popular one to fuck up because he's gay in canon.

So, he's got what can only be described as... anime hair with sideburns. Admittedly hard to draw. What the fuck went on in OP's head that made them turn this into dreadlocks, off all things? Why does he have black roots!? He see him be born with blonde hair!

It's literally impossible for Dirk to have completed top surgery. He's 16 years old, and he grew up on a skyscraper in the middle of the ocean, completely alone. Do you think he cut his own chest open, OP?

Also, they forgot his tattoo, because of course they did.

Hahahaha, no, but I wouldn't blame him if he tried.

Slight spoilers here, but Dirk gets decapitated and revived twice over the course of the comic, so it's popular to depict him as having a scar around his neck. Even some the non-crazies draw him that way; it's kind of an interesting nod to the events of the story.

1) Line weight is their enemy because steven universe doesn't use it, lol

2) They seem like they're trying to emulate making their eyes straight/symmetrical of some sorts but don't know what symmetry is well enough so they fuck it up.
